I've been teaching ballet for over twenty years. My ballet teacher was a Bolshi alumnai. He and his dad both danced for the Bolshi before they came to America. I teach a combination of Vaganova and my own updated style to keep my students interested in the style. I use classical music and pop to help students gain a love and appreciation for the style.
I have been teaching Piano for 20 years now. I have taught students from age 2 1/2 - Adult. I was self-taught when I was a kid and begun taking formal lessons as a very young adult in my early twenties. I graduated from CSULB with my BA in Music with a concentration on Voice. As a Music major, you spend a lot of time at the Piano. I became a member of MTAC in 2004 and a member of Sigma Alpha Iota in 1998. I have a great passion for Music and a bigger passion for the Piano and sharing the wonders of how beautiful the Piano really is.
*** Lesson Details *** In my opinion, piano is the hardest instrument to learn, but the most rewarding. If you can play piano you can pretty much play any instrument. I believe that a piano lesson should be fun. I'm a strict teacher with a smile and a giggle. I push my students to greatness while helping t
hem love the piano through the good times and the bad. I'm a very encouraging but honest teacher. I compliment when warranted and I assess incorrect performances in an honest, but encouraging manner. I always let a student know that, though their performance was not their best, they can and will improve. It's always only a matter of time. I use the Schaum and Nevin series depending on the student's personality. I teach Classical and Pop Music. It's important for a student to learn the Classics and gain the ability to play things they like. I find the happy balance between the two. I teach Beginning to Intermediate levels. I also like to incorporate Music theory into the lessons because understanding the mechanics of Music helps make playing and creating Music much easier to accomplish. A typical lesson will start off with a hand drill warm up. We then will move on to the lesson book and repertoire. Theory will be assigned as homework. I look it over at the beginning of the lesson and discuss it and answer any questions in the last five minutes of class. Baby lessons go as followed: 15 mins. of play time and 15 mins of Music theory. I like to keep structure in my lessons but sprinkle a little joy and laughter to keep the atmosphere light. It makes for a much more attentive Piano student.
*** Travel Equipment *** I expect the student to have a Piano or Keyboard of some sort. I may provide music on occasion.
Careful private work on shape and function of the body, part by part. Breaking down the language of the movement so you know what you are doing when and how to carefully develop the parts that are weakest by separating them from the mix of all the movement and then studying them minutely until the physical process makes sense to your mind and body. Musicality from the moment you stand in first position. Relationship to music in the form itself and toward the music you are hearing. Turns, jumps, adagio, petite allegro, alignment, balance. Barre. Center. Feet. Head.....
I am in New York City and accepting new students as well as reconnecting with anyone who wants to return. I have two graduate degrees: one in Music and the other in Dance and Theater studies. My undergraduate degree is from The Juilliard School, in Dance.
I've taught children and grown ups for many years. I have a strong performing career and love the way teaching keeps me in a giving and learning place.
*** Lesson Details *** With beginning students I am very laid back and patient and believe strongly that in the play of games and experiments technique will develop and manifest. As the student becomes more advanced I become more demanding as do the materials.
As an Acting teacher I have the capacity to take students along all the way to professional and beyond. I'm a member of the Actors Studio, the performing unions and ha
ve studied since childhood at ACT and then all over the world including The National in London.
For Dance, I have a wide knowledge and can teach several forms as well as history and materials. I also teach Ballet and many forms of Modern Dance. I adore teaching dance composition. To help a dance student make their own dances is very fulfilling. I also teach choreography or composition. One of the aspects of dance composition that has recently captivated me is the composing of sound and music for the dance that is also being made. Using software, we can explore electroacoustic as well as language and text collage as sound score for your dance. It is super fun!!!
For the Visual Arts I teach Abstract Painting as well as Installation and Performance Art. *** Studio Equipment *** I have supplies and space. Visual Art students need to contribute to materials by finding or purchasing whatever they like and adding to the mix. My students are welcome to use what I have here and I am always adding materials. Many people throw away materials that are perfectly good for art making so keep your eyes open and you'll find all kinds of good things. Visual Art students need to book a 2 hour minimum and I will lower the price if you just let me know you need it.
My fees: I start at a higher fee and after you've been a regular student we can lower the fee for you if you need.
*** Travel Equipment *** just a space to work in - we can create a work space out of any space.
*** Specialties *** In dance I teach classical ballet principles for beginners or those who are returning and want to work carefully and privately. I teach from the tradition of Alfredo Corvino's principles of relationship to organic forms and structures for sound development. I studied with Mr Corvino for years and continue to study with Ernesta Corvino. For acting I teach a combination of classical acting technique with American sense memory and relaxation skills. I am well versed in the teachings of Lee Strasberg and then spent time in London to 'fill in the cracks' of my training with analytical skills as well as the various european influences that the Royal National embrace. I teach creative discovery in combination with classical devices so the student can discover their own artistry while learning actual classical devices for accomplishing specific goals.

Teresa was awesome! She worked with me and my limited flexibility and really set me up for success with exercises to integrate into my routine. She was also very cognizant of a prior injury and presented long term alternate solutions to tissue regrowth. I really look forward to working with her again!

She was really great, we have only had one lesson so far but she made me feel very comfortable and I feel like she will be perfect for me helping me get over my stage fright. She came up with quite a few ideas up front and can tell she is taking it seriously, which makes me even more confident in her because it is such a serious issue for me. I am looking forward to working with her.
My class focuses on the use and understanding of movement execution as well as ballet vocabulary. The class will start with a ballet barre, then move to center work, and across the floor. Younger students will be taught with the effective use of imagery for movement and older students will focus on the anatomy of the body. Students will be expected to bring a journal to each lesson to note vocabulary and movement combinations and review outside of lessons.
Briana has enjoyed teaching since she was a teaching assistant at Detroit Windsor Dance Academy, her high school dance studio. Since then she has taught students within Washington DC Public Schools, the University of Michigan Recreation Center, the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, Morton Street Dance Center, District Dance Arts, as well as many other studios and non-profit organizations. Teaching allows her to express herself, pass on her knowledge and experiences and inspire students to develop their technique, creativity, individuality and showmanship.
There is never a dull moment in Briana’s classes! Her specific classes and lesson plans are catered to specific age groups from Pre-K to adults. They consist of engaging movement activities, warm-up, and complex movement combinations. She is an energetic and patient teacher who seriously
takes into account the needs and skill level of the student in preparing her lesson plans and material.
Briana’s use of dance vocabulary and physical demonstrations allow her to teach the material accurately and effectively. Her positive attitude and constant words of encouragement keep students motivated and engaged in the lesson. Students will increase their knowledge and physical vocabulary of the movement style and leave each lesson a better dancer, performer and person.
She received her Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Dance and Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from the University of Michigan in May of 2013 and has had a wide range of professional experience. She has worked with and performed works by modern dance choreographers such as Lindsey Merchant, Melissa Beck, Germaul Barnes, Jessica Fogel, Christopher Huggins, Shen Wei and Dianne McIntyre. She was artistic director of a chapter of the international hip-hop dance company Dance2XS International.
Briana was a full-time company member with StepAfrika!, a professional stepping company in Washington, DC from 2013-2015 and currently, she is working with CityDance resident artist S.J. Ewing & Dancers. Briana has had the privilege of performing at DC's City Rhythms Festival, Catholic Universities Hartke Theater, the Hill Center, the VelocityDC Festival, the Guantanomo Bay Naval Base as well as others. Recently she was invited to perform a modern dance solo in Dance Place’s 2014 New Releases Choreographers Showcase and Joy of Motions 2014 Dance Project Concert. Most recently, she served as the assistant choreographer on the American Theater’s Company’s production of The Project(s) in Chicago, IL, rated 4 stars by the Chicago Tribune. Most recently, she collaborated with Hard Soles Dance Company on a new piece titled “Re:set”, combining contemporary dance and body percussion, for the 2016 March on Washington Film Festival in honor of the 70th anniversary of the integration of the NFL and was chosen as Dance Place's 2016 New Releases Commission Recipient in support her new work to be premiered the summer of 2017.
Briana encourages students to bring writing materials to each lesson to take notes for any learned vocabulary and each lesson will follow with a recorded video of the movement for the students to refer to until the next lesson.
I'm extremely new to ballet and dance in general (for reference I'm 16). Briana was very patient and an amazing teacher! Very friendly and welcoming while still being very professional. It's great to get the exact corrections I need without feeling bad about it and yet still work on it until proper. Very happy and pleased!

My daughter had a great first session. She identified my daughters areas of weakness and began immediately to help improve them. Looking forward to our next session.

I am already worried that if I tell people how amazing Briana is that she will get too booked up for me :) She is a great instructor with a huge heart. Loved it.
Beginner (ages 4-adult)- positions of the feet and arms, floor formations, and posture. Exercises for strengthening feet and legs, as well as stretches
Intermediate (ages 9-adult)- more of a formal ballet class, emphasizing the importance of form, musicality, and presence. Previous experience is suggested.
Advanced - technically more demanding with an emphasis placed on coordination, musicality, and technical proficiency. Dancers will learn complex combinations and choreography. Previous experience is required.
I have been dancing since the age of five and received most of my training in Washington, D.C. I have received my Bachelors of Arts degree in Dance. I have taught in the public school systems of Baltimore County and City, as well as Prince Georges County. I have also taught and choreographed for colleges and universities. My services include: private dance classes and choreography for schools, churches, weddings, parties, special events, corporate events, flash mobs etc..
Ballet is one style I would recommend to every single athlete. Ballet teaches body awareness and control. It elongates the body, builds flexibility and stamina. I love basic/beginner level ballet because it consciously helps you focus on every muscle and part body. With ballet technique under your belt other forms of dance can be picked up easier and athletes will have better grace and quicker transitions on the playing field.
Hiii... I'm Dwan and I'm so excited to meet with you and have a blast learning with each other. I've been teaching private lessons since 2000 and I have loved the growth that I have seen in my clients; gained skills in multiple dance styles, grasping the understanding of musicality & coordination, and the comfortability in stage presence. My journey began in 6 grade at my college prep magnet school Charleston County School of The Arts; I attended this school through 12th grade and thereafter I excepted a scholarship to Columbia College. These two schools gave me the foundation of dance history, tech, skills in instructing, and the quality of being versatile in styles. Along with a professional background in music videos, tv shows. productions, and tours; I have insight on how to market yourself in the entertainment industry. Best way
to describe myself, I'm high energy and I'm a big bubble of fun, and my teaching style is full of dedication, patience, and positive reinforcement. I look forward to helping you reach you goals!!! Let's Dance!!!!
We have been working with Dwan for a few weeks now. Our experience has been excellent. She is knowledgeable, listens well and sincerely tries to help my daughter attain her dance goals. Dwan is also very encouraging and just has an overall uplifting spirit. I highly recommend Dwan.

Dwan was amazing from the start. Very encouraging. The lesson was so much fun that the time flew by. She was great about making sure I was comfortable with the pace & content. I highly recommend taking a lesson with her. Can't wait for my next 1!

Dwan's classes are so much fun! She's detailed about her instructions and makes you feel comfortable. She makes sure you're having a good time and helps you find your own style!
I've studied ballet (eventually getting to pointe) on and off for seven years with a number of teachers using different technique standards. If ballet is something you'd like to try, or perhaps you're an actor looking for more movement training, I'd love to teach you! While I could teach up to an intermediate level, I prefer working with beginners one-on-one. Private lessons allows me to take the time to show you the ropes and proper technique without the pressure of a fast-paced classroom environment. This can be especially helpful for those who may be unsure about dancing in front of others or are coming at it past the "typical" ballet age and are yet to find a class that makes them feel at home! I have this problem myself and I am only in my 20's (a lot of ballet classes near me have mainly young teens as students)! So whatever your goals are with ballet, or if it's just something you want to try out, let's talk and make a plan for some training! I also love working with kids on ...
Hi! I'm Carissa, a working actor and playwright, and would love to work with you on your craft! I grew up heavily immersed in the arts from a young age. For Middle School and High School I attended one of the top Performing Arts schools in the State of California, where I was able to take classes such as ballet, tap, jazz, acting, and playwriting daily. After that, I earned a spot in, and graduated from, the BFA Acting program at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. After taking a year to work professionally in theatre and television, I moved to Ireland to earn my MFA in Playwriting from The Lir Academy (an affiliate school of London's RADA). Teaching has been a big part of my life, from private study to running theatre camps for kids. I'm well versed in the drama school audition trail and would love to help you prepare fo
r this exciting time! I also offer playwriting lessons/critique, and beginner lessons in dance (ballet, jazz, tap). I look forward to hearing from you!
I'm really impressed!!! Carissa met all my expectations and even more. For a very short period of time, she has taught me how to improve my intonation by using positive phrases and believing in them. It really helps, I feel like I got her energy and positiveness. Thanks Carissa! Look forward to the next lesson!

Absolutely the best acting instructor I could get!!
I am a professional ballet dancer and I love to help students achieve "clean" un-stylized classical technique, whether they hope to gain admittance into top ballet schools, summer programs or audition for companies. I began training at age 3 and have experience with small and large schools. For my high school years, I trained with American Ballet Theatre's JKO School, where I received ABT certification to teach Levels Pre-Ballet - 3, then did my post secondary training with Canada's National Ballet School in Toronto. Since graduating, I have danced with Les Grands Ballet Canadiens in Montreal and Semperoper Ballett in Dresden, Germany. I would be more than happy to share tips and encourage any age student as they reach for their individual goals.
Levels Taught: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
I love sharing the beautiful classical art of ballet with young students! I like to keep class fun while gently helping students retain habits that encourage a language of clean classical technique through proper form, allowing them to work towards their creative potential. I received my early training starting at 2 1/2 in my hometown of Philadelphia and moved to New York after receiving an invitation to study with the JKO School at age 16. I furthered my training after graduation in Toronto with Canada's National Ballet School. SInce then I have danced professionally in Canada, Germany and Denmark. I am currently pursuing my interest in artistic collaborations with contemporary visual artists. When not dancing or working on photography and video projects, I enjoy sewing and design
Isabelle is a great listener and made me feel much more confident after a few classes. She knows how to make me work so the classes were worthwhile. I feel like I improved and had fun! Five stars!

I took a few classes with Isabelle this past year and she was so approachable and easy to talk to. She made me work hard but it was a fun session each time! I felt like I made progress. Five stars!

Isabelle was so patient with me and really broke down the steps. She also helped me understand which muscles to strengthen (and how) so I feel like I can understand how to get to where I want to be. Highly recommend!
"My daughter absolutely loves Ms Chrystie!! She taught ballet for 1 year for us before we moved. We went through 3 recitals with her and my daughter always
felt so comfortable with her. My daughter really grew as a dancer and her confidence grew as well."
"I was working with Eliza on an art project that included two performances based on dance. I am very thankful for having ben able to work with Eliza. She i

"We hired Ms. Mayuko to supplement my daughter’s rhythmic gymnastics training. Ms. Mayuko delivered rigorous ballet lessons in sequence to help build my da
ughter’s foundation in classical ballet, but to also improve her ability to accomplish a strict code of points for competition in rhythmic gymnastics. With Ms. Mayuko’s program, my daughter achieved her split leaps, extension, and turns in less than 6 months. My daughter was able to get the all-around gold title for her state and region, in large part to Ms. Mayuko’s training. She is strict and her lessons are rigorous, yet her genuine love for working with children is imminent and is what kept my daughter’s motivation for ballet and gym going. I recommend Ms. Mayuko to the highest degree."
"Carissa is a wonderful, inspiring, and generous teacher! I look forward to every lesson. Thank you!"
"I started taking private lessons after a long hiatus from ballet. Briana is an excellent teacher, patient, and knowledgeable. I've progressed faster than
I would have if I had only taken group classes. Briana's teaching style is fun and inspiring. She takes the time to discover where you are in your dance training and tailors the lessons to your goals while maintaining authority as a professional. I recommend Briana for any adult dancers who want to improve their technique and want focused, individual training."

If your child is interested in taking ballet lessons, one of the things that is likely going through your mind right now is wondering how much it is going to cost. Many people believe that dance classes, and especially ballet classes, are quite expensive to participate in. While it's true that there are certain supplies your child will need to learn how to dance ballet, purchasing these items does not have to break the bank. Here you will find a rundown of everything your child will need, as wel …
