About Meagan

Hello, my name is Meagan D., and I have been living in the DC area for about 5 years. I attended Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, MI. I have my Bachelor's of Science Degree, a Michigan's Provisional Teacher's Certificate, and a Maryland Teacher's Certificate. My major was Mathematics

Meagan is very flexible and is a great teacher. She doesn't make the student feel self-conscious about answering wrong, She gently asks the student to explain how they came up with the answer and allows them to correct themselves. If the student doesn't realize their error during the explanation, she explains to the student wherein the equation they made an error. She also repeats the problem areas with the student until they have a full understanding of the process.

I sought Meagan out after my daughter came home with a failing grade in Algebra I. I am very happy with my selection, she is the perfect fit for my daughter. She is very flexible and I appreciate that she doesn't make my daughter feel like her lack of understanding of the subject matter makes her inadequate. I am going to continue hiring Meagan for the duration of the school year, my daughter really likes her and is learning far more than she is from her regular classroom environment.

Careful private work on shape and function of the body, part by part. Breaking down the language of the movement so you know what you are doing when and how to carefully develop the parts that are weakest by separating them from the mix of all the movement and then studying them minutely until the physical process makes sense to your mind and body. Musicality from the moment you stand in first position. Relationship to music in the form itself and toward the music you are hearing. Turns, jumps, adagio, petite allegro, alignment, balance. Barre. Jennifer is an amazing teacher! She provides amazing feedback and clearly knows her stuff. She is energetic and helps to bring a deep understanding of movement. I highly suggest Jennifer for privates!

I have trained alongside Jennifer as a dancer and have seen her in action in the studio not only as the student but as the teacher. Her compassion, diligence, and dedication to sharing her own love of ballet with her students is admirable and shines through. She is dedicated to not only providing safe and polished technique and artistry but also to learning from her students and seeking out ways to improve herself.

Speaking as a peer, Jennifer's teaching style is a great hybrid between a technique-driven, traditional curriculum and a wholesome appreciation for the joy and spirit that keeps dance as a universal language. Students not only gain an understanding of the vocabulary but a safe space to develop discipline, strength and confidence.

I teach from the understanding that our bodies set the limits. We can push them but we must respect them. I encourage those who are afraid to try ballet to be brave and discover what ballet can offer your body at any age. Ballet will make you strong in more ways than any other sport. You feel it from the inside out.

As a former ballet dancer, I know first hand how dancers are always pushing their bodies to the limit and constantly challenging themselves to be better. This mindset transitions into my teaching style and classes. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to understand ballet terminology and as time goes on you'll be able to demonstrate and combine the movements. I specialize in ballet as a whole which includes stretch, barre work, center work, and strengthening. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

"My 8 year old daughter has now completed two private lessons with Ana. We both thrilled with Ana as a teacher and an individual. Ana is a professional dancer and she is simply wonderful. She is patient yet professional. Ana knows how to get the best out of your child and there has been immediate progress already. I highly recommend Ana if your child (or yourself) is seeking to improve their ballet skills."

"This was my first online lesson with Lindsay. I am a 64 year old woman who wants to learn ballet and in doing so become more flexible, agile and have better balance. Lindsay was very knowledgable, patient, and friendly. I felt that I was receiving real instruction and that we will make a good team together. Even though this was via FaceTime, I truly felt I had a one to one learning experience. Thank you, Linsday!"
