As a math and standardized test tutor, I strive to stay results-oriented and based around the student's needs. In past experience as a tutor in college, where I was an undergraduate math major, I would often see shortcuts to problems that to me were simpler than the methods taught in class, but I became acutely aware of the need to approach learning from students' point of view in addition to my own. Putting students first calls me to help them directly with their needs and to meet them where they are.

About Alexander
As a violin teacher, I always aim to set goals for students, to guide students towards them, and to be direct as possible so far as is appropriate. I also try to stay results-oriented throughout the process. Even if not all of a student’s progress is directly attributable to me, the most important thing was that he improve. I teach from the personal perspective of a traditional, technically founded approach to classical music, but I also love to arrange simple songs from any genre for each student, chosen by me or upon request. On the side, I enjoy playing fiddle music with my family and friends.

I really appreciated Alexander teaching me violin. He was basically my first instructor and he was always patient and motivating. He accommodated my unique needs as an adult beginner and brought me far in a short time. He was a little challenged to balance teaching with his heavy school load, but I appreciated his willingness to take the time to teach and help others.

I stress understanding rather than memorizing formulas. This ensures my students can derive formulas/solutions even without memorization.

I know firsthand how difficult it is to learn programming whether you are a total newbie, or a budding intermediate, but I have overcame these challenges myself and will guide you to overcome them too. I also have 3 years of tutoring experience, which will surely come in handy!

About Bill
I have always been a self-studier in my entire life. Being able to learn with just books and your brain is a crucial skill to have! However, I know not everyone (and sometimes even myself) have the discipline and motivation to keep going during hard times. This is where a tutor would come in handy.

I enjoy tutoring and helping other overcome problems that I have encountered myself because it enhances my own understanding and makes me happy that my self-studying is helping others. Sometimes, my students even bring up alternative ways of thinking that I have never thought of before!

Bill is superb at asking leading questions to discover my own weaknesses and mistakes so we can fix them together and get to the correct answer.

Having someone to bounce various approaches to a problem really helped me understand how to solve the exercises as opposed to just memorizing the solutions

I have a doctoral degree and 30 years of teaching experience in mathematics at public and private colleges. I have also done much one-on-one tutoring and curriculum planning. I am now retired.

I can help you learn arithmetic, algebra, finite math, trigonometry, or any other area of mathematics from primary or secondary school, or beginning college math. I have heard my students say things like "This is the first time I ever understood math!"

First of all, you have to believe that you are capable of doing mathematics. You may have heard well-meaning friends or parents say "You don't have a math brain" or "You are not a math person". These are counterproductive thoughts. In fact, anyone can learn mathematics. If you adopt a positive attitude and make good use of your study time, you can make great strides!

Math from Algebra all they way to Calculus forms the basis for work needed in Mechanical Engineering. In addition, many problems in Computer Science require a good understanding of basic algebra and logic concepts.

I would try to teach this subject in a manner the way I was originally taught. Start with the fundamental reason why the subject is needed for the problem you are trying to solve, and then build on top of from there by proceeding to learn the steps.

About Gaurav
As a graduate of the Carnegie Mellon Mechanical Engineering program, I had the opportunity to provide guidance to students in multiple ways. I helped incoming freshman in the Introduction to Mechanical Engineering classes as a Teaching Assistant and also as a grader. I made sure to provide clear feedback on all homework assignments to ensure that students were steered the right direction.

As a teaching assistant, I would assist the professor in proctoring exams so I have a lot of experience interacting with students and being able to adapt to different situations.

Before college, I spent two years tutoring at Kumon Learning Center in high school where I would teach younger elementary school children Math and Reading. As I go forward, I'd like to continue to share the knowledge I have and help people learn.

I also have previous
experience tutoring online and have multiple students learn the fundamentals of the subject they wanted to understand. I look forward to working with you!

Math can be intimidating to students. I know because it used to be this way for me. However, with the help of a fantastic professor I fell in love.

I found that understanding why operations are performed as they are intended helped me to finally see the pieces fall into place. Thus, my approach to any mathematics revolves around understanding they why just as much as how to implement the techniques.

I also assist students in finding the way that best suits them to properly study the subject. Math, unlike other subjects, requires repetitive practiced application. Developing the proper study skills and fine tuning organizational skills go a very long way in being a successful math student.

About Jessica
I am studying for an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology at the University of Texas, Dallas. I have an Associate in Science degree from Eastfield Community College in Mesquite, Texas. I am also a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society for academic excellence and received a place on the All-State Academic Team.

While working towards my degree I have run many study and tutoring groups where students saw an average increase of a full letter grade. I also assisted students individually. I spent just under three years working as a biology lab assistant with Eastfield College. My job responsibilities included assisting individuals with the material presented in lab, writing experiments that supported information learned in lecture, and assisting in creating new lab manuals.

Learning should be individualized to every student. I not
only work with students on the material, but also place an emphasis in organizational and study skills. I encourage students to think about the why and how to deepen understanding.

About Yoonnie
As a certified Pennsylvanian K-6 teacher, I am dedicated and committed to optimizing student success, academically and socially, in one-to-one settings. Hailing from The Sunshine State, I have obtained both a Bachelor's and Master's degree of Education from The University of Florida. Within two months of completing my Master’s internship in 2011, I was hired as a full-time 4th grade reading and math intervention teacher. Following that, I moved to New York City and became a homeroom teacher to a class of 4th grade English Language Learners and three classes of higher-ability 5th graders in a high-needs public school in the Bronx. With a desire to expand my reach to an even more diverse population, I moved to Abu Dhabi and taught students from 15 different nationalities at an international English-medium private school for these past 2 yea
rs. As a result, I possess a wealth of knowledge and experience in teaching and mentoring children from a variety of cultural and SES backgrounds, including ESOL, underprivileged, urban, and suburban.

As I strive to ensure that all students receive an excellent education, I believe that my skills would not only be able to meet your child’s needs, but also cultivate a happy, lifelong learner. My strength lies in connecting with students and using that to motivate and challenge them with personalized, interest-based and innovative teaching methods. I also have a proven track record of helping students reach and exceed expected growth on standardized tests. One of my favorite things about teaching is getting to the “lightbulb” moment where the concept clicks with the student and he/she is able to understand something that was confusing just a moment ago. I would love the opportunity to support your child in improving their confidence, social skills, foundational reading, comprehension, vocabulary development, writing, and other English language skills, along with developing their aptitude in math, science, and social studies.

Resume, references, and student testimonials are available upon request.
