I wasn't Tom's student per se but he and I went over lots of material for our various cover bands and he's a very thorough, patient teacher, very adamant about getting parts exactly right but willing to listen to occasional disagreements. highly recommended!

my experience

Tom really knows his way around a bass. Each time I go for a lesson, i leave happy about the things we've accomplished in the lesson. Anything that i would like to learn Tom makes it possible for me to do so. I started getting lessons in order to not slow down on my playing. With my schedule constantly changing Tom has been very nice at accommodating when possible.

-Private Teacher BnB Music
-Freelance jazz/classical woodwind player (NYC,DC, and Chicago)

Hi! Thanks for visiting my page. Before anthing else, music should be fun. If you want to learn and get better at playing, listening, and experiencing music in your daily life, then it would be my privilege to help you do that. I grew up in a musical household, thankfully, and I have come to appreciate and value my upbringing more and more as I've gotten older. I see my teaching as a way to share the joy of music making that I have been fortunate enough to engage with since I was a kid.
I do my very best to give my students the kind of information that ignites them to practice and discover things on their own. I want to empower my students through music and find new
ways grow and learn with them. Let's get started.

-Tristan

Tristan is an excellent teacher

Tristan is an unusual combination of an excellent musician and wonderful teacher. He has been teaching my 15 year old son the saxophone for the past 6 months and is always on time, very enthusiastic, well organized and supportive. I can't recommend him enough.

Natural teacher, great rapport

Tristan has been teaching my daughter flute for four months, and she has learned a lot more than she previously knew, even though she had a private flute teacher for the past 6 years. Tristan has a way of giving constructive instruction in such a positive way, my sensitive daughter never feels like it is criticism but rather encouragement. Because she is already a fairly skilled flautist they can dive right into working on music and refining technique, and Tristan brings her a variety of interesting and challenging pieces to work on. Because he is a flautist too they can play together, which inspires her to improve to keep pace with him. He explains things so clearly that she easily gets the point. He is a talented musician and a natural teacher, and has a great rapport with kids & teens. My daughter really enjoys her weekly lessons.

Gets kids, keeps it interesting

Tristan is teaching my 10 yr old piano and my 12 year old saxophone. He comes to our house and has been totally reliable. He very quickly had a good read on each of them and pushes them appropriately hard while varying things up enough to keep things interesting and fun. We've been very pleased.

Hi!

I am a certified ESL teacher and academic tutor. I have experience teaching all levels of English, including English for the workplace. I have taught ESL speaking and writing classes at St. John's University; Teachers College, Columbia University; the New Americans Welcome Center; as well as through numerous private organizations. I also tutor students who need help with English/Social Studies/Literature classes, AP English classes, the REGENTS and the SAT.

I hold a BA in Media Studies and an MA in Middle-Eastern Studies. Therefore, if you need any help writing papers in the arts/humanities/history, I would be happy to help out. Prior to working as an ESL teacher, I worked in publishing as a literary assistant/ online editor and had great success editing manuscripts, papers, and even blogs.

As far as teaching is concerned, I
genuinely enjoy helping others and try to make my classes/ sessions as communicative and engaging as possible. Tutoring is a refreshing experience for me since I learn something new from my students each and every day.

Learning is just a matter of perspective; finding new ways to look at and explore the world around you. I look forward to meeting you and exploring together!

Abby is a great teacher. I was lucky to find her on this website. She genuinely cares about her students and wants them to improve their language skills. She is very friendly and easy to work with. She let you choose a topic or suggests a topic that you might like it. We have been focusing on my speaking and writing skills. I have made a big progress in just over a year. I highly recommend Abby !

Abby is a really attentive teacher, she has been a big help to English. Besides the weekly lessons, we also worked on some articles for my blog and for my portfolio site. She was really involved and she had a lot of original and creative ideas. Working with her is a surprisingly efficient experience for me. Thanks to her, my English knowledge got better earlier than I expected. In addition, she is a really
caring person, and she always has new ideas about how to improve. She also pays attention for her students personal interests and prepares individual materials for each lesson.

About Melissa
Hi there! I'm Melissa, and I am a fashion design and sewing teacher on Staten Island. I have been teaching children and adults how to sew since 2014. I've been sewing since I was a child, and I've been teaching since 2007.

I am mostly self-taught, and that, coupled with my youth, gives me a unique perspective when teaching. My first goal is to give my students all of the tools they need to feel confident from the very first lesson- almost all of my students finish the first hour with a handy drawstring bag to keep their new sewing supplies in. I have a specific sewing curriculum for the first 3-5 lessons that helps lay a groundwork for making more exciting things.

After we finish those steps, I work individually with students to make whatever they would like, from Halloween costumes to memory pillows to peplum tops. The choice is
yours. I'm not the kind of teacher that is going to make you spend hours mastering a straight hem because frankly, that's really boring. I want you to learn while working on projects you care about

My experience includes;

-I worked in a tutoring school teaching kids from ages 5-17 in all subjects.
-I designed a program called Creative Studios for creative writing, fashion design and fine art. I taught these subjects to students aged 8-12.
-I teach sewing and fashion design (including fashion drawing) to various students in a one on one format.
-I teach fashion design and sewing to tweens, teens, and adults at SI Dance and Arts Center
-I am a resident costumer for Sundog Theatre.
-I taught at the Harlem Educational Activities Fund Saturday Academy
-I am pursuing a Masters in Adolescent Education in Social Studies

Please note that I am located in Staten Island, NY. I may be able to accommodate some Brooklyn students, but please inquire before booking. I have locations in 10306 and 10309 that can accommodate students if you don't wish to learn in home.

My studio space is located at Staten Island Dance and Art Center. It's a lovely, artsy space with bright yellow walls, four sewing machines, 2 professional mannequins, and a closet full of fabric and notions!

FIRST, WATCH the VIDEO of my son below.

I am an incredibly intense and unique math teacher. I only work with students who genuinely want to learn, want to score higher on standardized tests, and are willing to work hard to make it happen.

I was the captain of my high school math team and we won the New England Championship!

I have had many amazing, high-achieving students go on to the Ivy League (and even Juilliard!)...but my best student, by far, is my son.

At 5 years old he started algebra. And at 7 he started calculus!

I teach math 1-on-1 every single day. I'm not to be compared with classroom teachers who "teach" 25 kids at a time for useless 40 minute sessions.

I also work directly with many genius-level kids so I can certainly handle any difficult material.

Please contact me if you have any questions about my
methods or background.
