About Julie
I am passionate about Music and Music Education. It's rewarding for me to watch my students develop in their musical skill and enjoy making music more and more. My students range from the very young (5 years old) to school age children, to teens, and adults. My students benefit from my expertise in teaching Vocal and Piano music, my knowledge of Music Theory, and my encouraging teaching style. I have been involved in making music since I was a young child, and I have been teaching private students since I was a Music major at the University of Florida in 1982 when a fellow college student asked me to teach her voice lessons. I have a Music Education degree from the University of Florida; my major instrument was Voice, my minor was Piano. I taught as a public school music educator in Florida, California, and Tennessee between the years
of 1983 to 1997. I taught private students after school in my classroom while I was a public school teacher, and from my home since 1997. My post-graduate continuing professional education includes Tennessee Arts Academy at Belmont University, Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1 (vocal teaching techniques, do-re-mi, ear training), Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification, Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Piano Lab certification. My professionalism and expertise are at your service. I will work together with you to insure an enjoyable and informative learning experience.

*** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson in my studio would begin with a brief question/answer time with the student to learn how their week has gone, and how their music practice is progressing.

For PIANO LESSONS we begin with Technique including scales and dexterity exercises, then we play from the Lesson book and a Recital selection. I typically let the student play through the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to play the piece again. After that we go over the Theory assignments, and do Ear Training exercises. I am comfortable teaching from a variety of different methods courses. The methods course is chosen according to the student's interest. I never require a piano student to continue using books that are not inspiring. There so many methods courses available, that a student may always be able to have methods books they LOVE.

In my SINGING LESSONS we also begin with a recap of the student's week. Then we continue with Warm Up exercises to prepare the student's voice for the lesson. Then we study Sight Singing and Solfege Singing (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do) to increase the student's listening skills. After that the student sings their selections. Like I do in Piano lessons, I listen to the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to sing the piece again. I am comfortable teaching many styles of vocal music including classical, Broadway, pop, rock, and Christian.

For MUSIC THEORY lessons, the study material is chosen according to the student's interest and age. Topics include notation, chord structure, chord progression, melodic structure, and harmony. I also incorporate Music Listening in the Music Theory lesson in order to learn from the masters in many styles of music. My Music Theory students will also have the opportunity to develop composition and songwriting skills if they desire.

My teaching style is structured and friendly, keeping the student's goals and interests at the forefront. I enjoy motivating students to reach their highest potential.
After 3 to 6 months in my studio my students will see improvement in their musical technique, ear training, music reading, notation, and knowledge. They will be preparing recital pieces for an upcoming performance. I provide three Studio Class performances (February, June, October) and one recital opportunity (December) a year. Most importantly, the student's love and appreciation of music will be growing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
PIANO lessons in Living Room: piano near front entryway, couch, loveseat, over-sized chair, dining room table, open space, end table with chair, parents may sit in on lesson.

SINGING lessons in Recording Studio: keyboard, recording equipment, desk, 2 chairs, music stand, microphone, private room. Parents may wait in adjacent rec room or sit in on lesson.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide lesson books, the students should provide their instrument.

I do have a mobile keyboard to bring for SINGING lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Kodaly Pedagogy and Solfege Level 1

Orff-Schulwerk Music for Children Level 1 certification

Yamaha M.I.E. (Music In Education) Lab certified instructor

To start piano lessons when you're 72 was challenging. But Julie is so amazing that it has been the one of best things I've done. She's just great. She's happy and her lessons carry over that happiness. I'll never be her best student but she makes you feel like you are. I look forward to seeing her each week.

Tamar is a wonderful, dynamic and enthousiastic teacher and my 12 year old daughter had a great time with her.
Tamar knows when to slow down if her student is tired, but is also demanding so as to be sure that progress are made.
It was a pleasure seeing how fast my daughter improved her English and we both appreciated meeting Tamar, who is a great person :)

About Cathryn
Hello! My name is Cathy and I have been teaching voice (singing) for over 30 years. But don't let that fool you into thinking I'm a stogy old girl who doesn't have a pulse on contemporary music. I teach pop, country, broadway, folk, whatever it is your interested in. I do teach with vocal exercises because without them no changes will be made and that's the whole point right to change your voice? However you do get to sing songs. I teach, so that you will change your voice and succeed in whatever avenue you want. My degree is in Vocal Performance from Northeastern Illinois University and one year of Masters work in Drama from DePaul University.

I also teach ESL, Reading, Writing, History which I have done for the past ten years. I use a variety of techniques since no two people are alike to help you learn English or the Ameri
can lifestyle. I presently teach Caterpillar employees, spouses and children. Let me teach you and see how far we can go.

Thank you.

Love the way Cathy relates to my 6 year old granddaughter...she is very hands on in a positive and upbeat manner and gets down to eye level when getting her point across. Has the child feel her jaw for example to learn the best position for a voice exercise. Then she often asks if the child understands what she is saying, asking for a return demonstration and verbal response of “yes’. And she reinforces success while repeating directions for mistakes...just a great teacher.

Adam is a really great listener and excellent source of thought provoking, well timed input that has really helped me develop and improve my story organically without changing its intention with strong suggestions as most people's feedback often attempts to do. If you're looking for a hand in finding your own voice and to strengthen your writing skills or excellent constructive feedback for your story then look no further.

Adam Gaines is a godsend. I was really lucky to have his guidance over the years which helped my craft and dedication to the art of writing greatly. He is a proven writer with legitimate credits but also, he actually cares. He is always ready to help and takes your material seriously which is most important when you want honest feedback and guidance. He has an encyclopedic knowledge of films, screenwriting, and the industry that is both impressive and beneficial. He is a wonderful friend and mentor who will always have a great recommendation or suggestion ready for your work and/or career. Adam is an extremely open individual with an immense passion for film and the craft of screenwriting which becomes infectious. That trait is crucial since it keeps you driven to keep learning and grow. He is also an excellent conversationalist with his own voice which is truly refreshing. Highly recommend.

I graduated from Temple University with a degree in English. I’m also a releasing my first published children’s book entitled “You’re too little”.

I believe books and writing gives our minds the opportunity to be imaginative and expressive. To travel the world without ever leaving our rooms. To design characters and places we never thought to explore.

Through out my academic journey I have experienced writer’s block, creative ruts, and master the art of doodling while deleting (lol).

I desire to help you build on your strengths as a reader and writer. Implementing instruction that will challenge and bring about improvements in a safe and fun env

Hi! My name's Cecilia and I know writing can be tough sometimes; you might be able to picture what you want to say but not know exactly how to put that mental image into words. That's where I can help you :)

I teach Creative Writing and Essay Writing for Middle and High, ages 11-18. I know I'm definitely younger than most writing professors but don't let my age fool you. I've been writing since I was old enough to pick up a crayon (yes, I wrote with crayons, what about it?). I did leave school relatively early, having skipped my senior year of high school to study at college in order to obtain my Associate's degree while simultaneously getting my high school diploma, but this proximity to high school is exactly why I can give you confident lessons in both Essay Writing and Creative Writing: I know what teachers are expecting nowadays and
even better, I know how to teach it! (including analysis and synthesis)

I look forward to helping you better your Essay and Creative Writing!!! :)
