I am experienced (3 years) in home school tutoring. I mostly work with Florida Virtual School students. I overlook their tests and assignments, and help them with preparations for Discussion Based Assessmemts (DBA). I also help parents with required annual evaluations and how to sign up with home education department. For my tutoring sessions I use skills that include goal-directedness, I teach how to organize learning in small steps and how to set them up; I always strive to motivate and engage my students to make them interested in learning and have fun; I also use self-control skills to teach how to avoid distractions and I show how to use different focusing strategies. I use positive mind set skills to teach how to use failures as learning opportunities.
I have Masters in Education (2018) with specialization in English, Curricul
um and Education; and Masters in Arts (2012) in Teaching English to speakers of other languages, and Bachelors in Music Education (2010), both from Florida Atlantic University, as well as a degree in violin performance from Chicago. I studied piano in Chicago for 10 years & taught both piano & violin for over 20 years. I also teach flute & cello for the past 5 years, as I studied them during my Music Education program. I have taught music for over 24 years using the traditional and Suzuki methods. I am fan of the Essential Elements method and I Can Read Music book for string instruments, and the Alfred's Piano Library for piano. Alfred's piano library can be used for any age as they also have books especially made for adult learners. I also like their music flash cards. For teaching music theory I mostly used Fundamentals of Piano Theory (9 levels) combined with Master Theory (6 levels) books.
I personalize every lesson, and always set goals for my students. Most of my violin students are members of the Florida Youth Orchestra as well as the Gold Coast Youth Orchestra and my piano students participate in Pompano Beach Piano competition and the annual Piano Guild auditions. I teach any age and any level, and always stress that learning a new instrument is very similar to learning a new language, it needs a lot of patience, persistence and repetitions. My lessons are customized to my students needs, and are work in progress as they needs may change over time. I always remind my students that music can give them instant gratification when they learn to play favorite songs. I always encourage my students to tell me about their music preferences, so I can incorporate them in their music lessons.
*** Lesson Details *** All my tutoring sessions include reviews of previously learned material and if possible the use of technology. I use students books but often bring extra study materials if necessary. All my lessons include technique and reading music. I like to use the Finger Power for piano students and Essential Elements for my string students, and scales for both. Music theory: I use Master Theory and Fundamentals of Piano Theory books for younger ages, Alfred's music flash cards to support learning notes and musical terminology, and of course the fun part performance.
Besides Essential Elements for strings I also use String Tunes and I Can Read Music to add more fun to the lessons as well as support reading music during the lesson. For piano students I use Holiday Treats book, which comes in 2 different levels: Beginner & Intermediate, so my students have a new songs for a specific holiday.
*** Studio Equipment *** I always bring violin with me to be able to show what I teach.
*** Travel Equipment *** The students need to have their books and assigned material ready for tutoring. Instrumental students needs to have their music books, flashcards & instrument available as well as a pencil. I always stress with my students to be organized and prepared for their lesson, this way they will be able to focus better during the lesson. I always bring my violin with me. I also ask that the room where the lesson takes place be free of any distractions, such other siblings or any other noise. The quiet environment helps in faster learning.
*** Specialties *** I tutor most K-12 subjects and prepare students to take ACT, SAT, GRE tests. Music genres: Classical, traditional, Suzuki, Popular, Celtic, fiddle, Blues
I'm sorry, I cannot handle this Instructor for my children. She wasn't me but she's not quite the people person I expected. Her personality is not a good match for a high school tutor. Unfortunately her English is not good enough. Her accent is entirely too strong. Also she does not know enough Geometry to help my kids.

I tutor grade school kids - college level and increase their interest in the subject, be it reading, writing or math. Keeping the student interested in what they are learning and curious to learn more propels them toward higher learning in the future.
Hi! My name is Julia A. I have been tutoring students of all ages and skill levels at learning centers, colleges, libraries and schools since 2008.
My instruction extends nationwide, with students from all corners of the US, utilizing online tutoring services such as Skype.
My main field of study is in MATH (trig, algebra, geometry, precalculus), CHEMISTRY (high school and college), and PHYSICS (high school and college).
I completed my Bachelors in Physics and Mathematics Education at Hunter University and have gained experience with both in-person and online group instruction and curriculum development.
Some examples of the students I have tutored are: Elementary school students preparing for State competitions and exams; High school and College students in preparance for entrance exams, and in subjects such as algebra, geom
etry, trig, precalc, chemistry and physics.
I do Regents and SAT/ACT prep for these subjects as well as the GRE (These are NYS based High School Preparatory Exams - do not hesitate to ask should you need assistance with the ones offered in your state/country).
In addition, I am thorough and meticulous, by paying special attention to how the student grasps information and retains it, I prepare individualized handwritten reviews, with supplemental material found online and in texts.
I assign homework to keep my students ahead of what is going on in class, and a visual and intuitive understanding of the concepts I present is important to me, so I use visual aids (diagrams and interactive models) to help my students integrate what they learn with me in real life situations.
My instruction includes: 1. Tutoring based on the school curriculum 2. Instruction on the home-schooling curriculum 3. Assisting those with a gap in going back to school/university.
I start with an assessment based on what the student has trouble with or last remembers covering in school, and prepare material going from there.
As a result, my students all have improved grades without any need for cramming before tests, and I encourage a stress-free and easygoing learning environment.
My lessons are fun and enthusiastic - these subjects are beautiful and will help open your mind to new ways of thinking - whatever your field of study!
Julia was very organized and well informed about chemistry. She was so much help. I would definitely use her again.

Great help to our 9y.o., who is exploring math. Clear explanation, additional materials, and a nice memo after each lesson. Thank you! Will do again!

Julia creates her own curriculum which is better than anything my daughters receive in their schools.
I see marked improvements in their grades for this past year, and my eldest is actually skipping fourth grade as a result of lessons. I am astounded as to my girls' progress, and greatly appreciative of our tutor's expertise.
Her patient, methodical approach to teaching is why I see us remaining with her for all of our educational instruction. She has already taught arithmetic to my youngest (3rd grade), and algebra to my eldest (starting 5th this sept!), and is proceeding with more advanced math with no issue whatsoever. I cannot recommend her enough.
Math is great because there's always one specific answer! My goal with students is to help them understand the path from a problem to its solution. Math is a tool to help develop reasoning and solution seeking skills.
The unique thing that sets me apart as a tutor in any subject is that I first work with the student, and I gently guide them to find the answer on their own.
I am a tutor who earned a music teaching degree, substitute taught, and didn't become a school teacher. I held professional tech retail jobs and am supplementing my life with my passion - education.
Whatever subject or instrument I teach, I celebrate students' successes; and I enjoy helping learners have new aha moments.
The majority of my students take guitar, bass guitar, or Spanish lessons. I am an educator and help my students learn other skills and knowledge sets too.
I went to Ohio State University for college, earned a BA in Music Education, and graduated Cum Laude. I also spent 4 years in the Ohio State University Marching Band.
Through my healing journey, I've developed patience, insight, and understanding for my students' learning processes.
I'm excited to help you incorporate new skills into your life!
My son had a wonderful lesson and was well prepared for his exam

Our son first time playing bassoon. Base on my son experience, he find Joshua to be very nice, patients, and explains a lot of information. It help him understand about the instrument and the sound when he play. He do have a sense of humor which help my son to have fun and be more comfortable. He also teaches other instruments, too. Highly recommended to everyone!!!!

With over 12 years of experience as a Mathematics Teacher, one of my passions in life is the opportunity to share knowledge constantly, as well as, to help individuals eager to improve even when some details appear to be insignificant. At the age of 19, I formally started working with students of all ages, as a professor of Basic Mathetics, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, etc at the Stephen W. Hawking Institute in Ecuador, my home country. We all should be determined to find an objective/career that would be our passion and reflects our life goal as well. This perspective encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone to move to USA thanks to an Ecuadorian scholarship which financed the commencement of my journey in Environmental Eng. focusing on Nanotechnology at Vincennes Univ. IN. There, I had a training at different Departments as a STEM, English and Spanish tutor; which eventually, gave me the chance to learn about the teaching-learning process of Higher Level Mathematics
I am a Science teacher besides my experience as an English and Spanish tutor, working in this field for more than 6 years. I graduated from Vincennes University with an Associate Degree in Environmental and Ecological Engineering. Currently, I am pursuing my Bachelor Degree in Environmental Engineering at The National Polytechnic University, also known as EPN in Quito, Ecuador.
At the age of 19, I started working as a professor of Abstract Reasoning and Exact Sciences at Stephen W. Hawking Institute in Ecuador, my home country. Eventually, I had the opportunity of training at different Departments as a STEM , Spanish and English tutor at Vincennes Univ., IN, USA from 2016 to 2018.
I strongly believe that we all should be determined to find a career that would be our passion and reflects our life goal as well. This per
spective encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone to become a scholarship student sponsored by Ecuador’s government on 2015; that very August I started my studies at USA. That opportunity represented the commencement that I was looking for my journey Environmental Eng. focused on Nanotechnology.
All these once in a lifetime events have maked me realize that one of my passions in life is the opportunity to share knowledge constantly, as well as, to help individuals eager to improve even when some details appear to be insignificant. Indeed, the process of teaching-learning actually represents such an enriching academic and personal experience.
Assuredly, obstacles really do not matter when we strive for more innovation and knowledge, because the universe always falls in love with a stubborn soul; so let's get started!
Wonderful instructor, patient and makes it very simple to follow her.

Elizabeth is great! She is very patient and makes sure that you understand the material before moving on. I really appreciate how she customizes her lesson plans based on your level of comfort and understanding.
Mathematics has always been my strongest subject in and outside of formal educational settings. I work hard to be adaptable to all ages of students and learning styles. Every single lesson is customized to suite your specific circumstances. I teach everything from addition to statistics. The only Subject Specialty I do not specialize in is Calculus.
I love working with all Romanian-speaking students interested in improving their English.
I lived in Romania for two years (2016-2018) so I do understand 80% of discussions being held, however, but I can only speak roughly 50% of the Romanian language.
I look forward to meeting you and improving your English as well as my Romanian!
I home-schooled my children who are now A-students in university level algebra. I am a physicist and retired senior scientist with extensive experience in explaining mathematical concepts simply and clearly to people of all ages and levels of understanding. My approach is fundamental, based on simple concepts of arithmetic that teach how to understand and solve problems from elementary algebra through calculus. I have recently helped a student prepare for the Graduate Record Exam in Quantitative Reasoning.
I tutor beginning French, high school and college physics, and mathematics from basic arithmetic through calculus. I home-schooled my own kids—two daughters who are now straight-A students at university, including mathematics.
I first began teaching French in 1965 when I was a 3rd year high school French student, helping other students who were struggling to learn the language. Everyone whom I helped showed great improvement in their comprehension.
I'm a retired physicist and engineer who worked as the senior scientist for a consulting engineering firm. Over the years I have helped many students who were having difficulty with algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus, as well as physics.
I remember what it was like to feel lost and intimidated by math problems that looked difficult. Geometry was easy for me, but algebra was
a struggle, until I figured out a fundamental approach that simplified everything. In turn, that approach made it much easier to understand trigonometry.
Similarly, I had a difficult time with high school calculus until I took physics. Once I saw that there was a practical use for the mathematics, it all became clear.
I know what my stumbling blocks were, and how I got past them. That's why I believe I can help anyone who's having a tough time with mathematics, at any level.
I am a current high school math teacher at an independent school. I have a master's degree in mathematics, and I have over 15 years of experience teaching. I have taught middle school, high school and college-level students. I am able to tutor in almost any mathematics course, and I can help with SAT/ACT questions, as well.
Hello! I have been teaching mathematics at a private high school in the United States for over 15 years. I have also spent part of my summer teaching middle school children algebra. I have a master's degree in mathematics, and I have tutored middle school, high school and college students. Probably the two questions I ask most often of my students is “Why?” and “Does that answer make sense?” I do not want my students memorizing steps, I want them to understand them so they see that one step naturally follows another. I feel that math is fun, and I want my students to feel the same way.
Olinda is the best! She is incredibly kind and patient. She is dedicated to the success of her students and works hard to make sure that everyone understands the material. Olinda makes even the most challenging subjects easy to understand and relate to. Highly recommended!
"Hola. Mi nombre es Romy. Quisiera decirles que: si no entiendo un ejercicio de matematicas, voy donde mi hermana para que me explique y lo entienda mejor
. Les recomiendo un100% que la busquen. Hi. My name is Romy. I want to tell you when I don't understand any math exercise, I ask my sister to help me. She always explains them very well and I understand math a lot better. So I recommend her a 100%. Look for her because she is a good teacher. She helps me a lot."
"My kid is homeschool and Milka has been doing a great job at teaching him some of the subjects he needs to learn (such as biology, chemistry and math)! sh
e is awesome and has been doing a great job keeping my son on track!"
"Mr T is excellent! He puts time and effort into teaching. So glad to find him. I highly recommend him."
"Friendly e compentent."
"She is very kind and was able to turn complicated math into something my son could understand!"
"Colin is absolutely amazing teacher! Last time I studied math was 20+ years. I am 40 years old and about to finish my second degree CRJ, and like many ot
hers I left math class at the end. Taking the math prep test (which I failed) placed me almost in kindergarten..Lol! and I knew I needed help to re-learn math. I am so happy Colin answered my request (I sent 15 requests, and only 2 teachers answered). I wanted to start eating the study guide provided by CSN and just focus on the topics, but Colin wanted to show me the "why we have numbers, type of numbers, etc" definitely I wanted to fly before I could walk, and I am so grateful he had a different plan............because IT MAKE SENSE! I mentioned I prefered to have a lobotomy (siks!) instead of facing math in my 40's because I never had a chance to understand math, I just digested the fact I was going to fail and obtain an "s" for grade. I am looking forward to like, learn, and comprehend math with Colin's help so I can graduate in December 2018. Thanks Colin :)"
"I'd like to write a quick testimonial about the tutor I found here on Takelessons. Joshua has worked with my 1st grade brother for about 8 weeks and he ha
s made impressive progress in both his reading and math skills. He has also helped discover my brothers learning condition, dyslexia, but it seems like Joshua has had no problem with that. My brother has enjoyed working with him and is demonstrating new learning, this delights me. Joshua has also developed a fun relationship with my other brothers too. I could not more strongly recommend Joshua to tutor any student."
""Mr. Ben" is extremely patient and knowledgeable!"
"Alex has been a very helpful tutor. He is very patient and good at explaining confusing concepts. Would absolutely recommend!"
Solving math problems can seem tedious at times, and other times it can be frustrating and challenging. When you find yourself stuck on a particular problem, it's nice to have a few tricks up your sleeve. Here are three math tips to get you moving again.
Be Familiar With Factoring Tricks
This first trick is actually three math tips in one! The key is that all three math tips have the same general plan: to help you factor a number or determine divisibility.
