I am interested in helping students struggling with math from basic algebra to calculus. When I was a computer science student, I took about 10 math classes; Calculus I, II, and III, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math I and II, Discrete Probability, Statistics and Continuous Probability, and Numeric Method on Digital Computing. I got good grades for all these classes. I enjoyed solving problems in math and often found myself taking the challenges of solving extra credit problems. It would be a very rewarding experience if I am able to share the process of solving math problems with others and help them improve their abilities to solve problems on their own.

About Amber
I was born and raised in S. Korea. I studied piano performance at Cleveland Institute of Music and University of Iowa and hold DMA in piano performance and pedagogy from University of Iowa. Other than music I hold BS in Computer Science from State University of New York, Albany. I began to play the piano when I was six and won prizes from the local competitions sponsored by Daegu Board of Education and Dague Division of Korean Musicians Association. I performed in major cities in Korea, the US and Europe such as Seoul, Paris, Vienna, Cleveland and Philadelphia. I participated in The Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition during my last year at University of Iowa and was mentioned by the judges as a technically very good pianist. For additional studies I participated in Aspen Music School and Music Festival, Claude Elffere's Master
Class (Paris, France), Mozarteum Summer School and Music Festival (Salzburg, Austria) and Vienna Music Seminar (Vienna, Austria). I was awarded scholarship when I attended Cleveland Inctitute of Music and Aspen Music School. My teachers include Jinsook Kim, Donald Walker, Paul Schenly, Gabriel Chodos, Viktor Teuflmayr, Claude Elffere, Anne Epperson, and Vivian Hornik Weilestein.
Previously I was a rehearsal pianist of operas, II pagliacci by Leoncavallo with Daegu Opera, Snatched by the Gods and Broken Strings by Param Vir with University of Iowa Theatre department, and contemporary operas based on the works by Francesca Cavalli with Temple University Opera. Other than operas I worked with Missoula Children’s Theatre for the performance of Aladdin. As a collaborative pianist I performed in numerous concerts and performed in master classes of Joseph Silverstein, Steven Isserlis, Julliard Quartet, Isaac Stern and Richard Stoltzman. I have been teaching piano at the university settings (University of Iowa and Catholic University of Daegu) or privately for 10+ years. Recently I taught at Half Note Music School in Bellevue, WA and was a pianist at St. Columba's Episcopal Church and United Christian Church in Renton, WA.

Amber is a strict yet nice teacher. My two girls love learning from her and are excited about going to piano lessons with her. Although they have been learning piano for a few years already, they consider Amber well qualified to push them to professional level and say that Amber makes their music pieces much better and accurate.

I love teaching Math. I think math is very enjoyable and I share my happiness and knowledge, so my students could feel that also. You would probably laugh quite a few times during my Math class and leave it feeling way more confident that you could do it. I do not believe in memorizing Math, so we work on understanding and students are creating their own Math in a way. And creating a proof is a very enjoyable experience that you never forget.

I also love teaching online. There are so many wonderful tools for that now!!! For example, screen sharing. Screen sharing allows my students to see my computer screen if I'm explaining something and show me what they are working on their screens. As we progress through the class I share links on rules and definitions that my student doesn't remember or getting confused and we could work with that right away and also the notes on the class are still available on both of our computers, so it is easy to review, ask questions and explore ...

I have been a classroom teacher for 11 years. I got my degree in elementary education. I have taught 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade. I'm best with younger grades. I can help with homework or plan a lesson over any concept you are having trouble with. I like to make learning fun. I have taught math, science, language arts, and social studies.

About Kevin
I truly enjoy teaching. I've taught in the public school classroom for 11 years. Teaching music is so so much FUN! And it should be fun for the students to learn. When I'm teaching I tell all my students that if they don't enjoy and smile about something, then we need to change something.

I would love to start lessons with you soon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Education & Credentials ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I graduated with a degree from UCLA with high honors (Dean's Honors List, Magna Cum Laude) in Integrative Biology & Physiology. I also took many classes at UCLA in education, linguistics, history, and English. I had a cumulative GPA of 3.838 with 265.5 completed units at graduation and was a 10-time Dean's Honors List Recipient. I also was a member of the UCLA Regents Scholar Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies, the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society, and Christian Students at UCLA. I worked as a TA for several undergraduate classes at UCLA, including Education 92F and Life Sciences 2-3. I also have gone through rigorous UCLA and Stanford University graduate-level coursework in science, math, educational strategies, and curriculum & instruction.
I have scored at the 98th percentile on the SAT I/II tests and received the highest score of 5 on multiple AP exams (see below for more details) as a high school student, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. I have been the recipient of over $350,000 worth of many university merit-based invitational and scholarship honors and awards. Some of the most notable scholarships I have been awarded are the Regents Scholarship from both UCLA and UCSB. Both provided me with a large monetary award (full-ride), priority enrollment, 4 years of room and board, and many other privileges, honors, and incentives.
The SAT examinations that I have scored at 98th percentile or higher are as follows: SAT I; SAT II - Math 2; and SAT II - Biology (M). I also took many AP exams during high school, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. Some of the exams that I have taken include: AP Physics B (Score = 5); AP Chemistry (Score = 5); AP Biology (Score = 5); AP Calculus AB (Score = 5); AP Statistics (Score = 5); AP US Government & Politics (Score = 5). I continuously study and retake the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams to stay on par with both the big and small changes each year to the exams.
~~~~~~~~~~~ My Personal Message to You ~~~~~~~~~~~

One of the wisest teachers once said that poor grades, study habits, and test scores are not life-threatening, but they are college-, job- , career-, and quality-of-life threatening. The most competitive students take a pro-active approaching to academics and tutoring while the least competitive take a reactive approach. All you need to do is watching the documentary 'Two Million Minutes' by Bob Compton to realize why students in other countries such as India and China surpass American peers in almost every subject, especially language (writing, grammar, etc.), math, science, and engineering-related subjects. They attend extra classes and tutoring from 6-7 AM in the morning to almost midnight.

In today's fast-paced and competitive job market, there is simply too much to lose by not investing now in your child's or your education. If a student is struggling, it makes sense to get him/her the help needed so that the time spent in school is worthwhile. Great grades and test scores can open doors that may have been previously closed and are also significant factors when determining scholarships, so investing time and effort now can pay off substantially in the future. Finally, let's not forget the most important part in all of this: the student. The confidence, knowledge, and skills that a student gains through effective tutoring can last a lifetime.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch. Every day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you might potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test/exam score that will only make it harder to recover from. I have had too many students who could have received the grade(s) they wanted had they contacted me from the beginning.

All levels of math offered!

About Jaime
Hey there! I'm a fully bilingual (English & Spanish) graduate student at the University of Pittsburgh. I received my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio and am now studying Rehabilitation Science and Technology. During my undergraduate career, I also took the necessary coursework to be considered a pre-med minor.

Additionally, I was also an all-around tutor for Sylvan Learning Center during the Summer of 2016. There, I taught children and teens of all ages on all of the subjects available. I also did a lot of ACT and SAT prep sessions.

My background as a Mexican-American, Mechanical Engineer, Pre-Med student. former Sylvan tutor and a current graduate student (which requires a lot of reading and writing) allows me to be a great instructor for subjects such as Spanish, Math, Science,
Language, and even ACT and SAT prep!

Jaime was an ABSOLUTELY AMAZING TEACHER! He had the ability to work with students who were Pre-K through college. He could relate to them in a way that that fostered mutual trust and provided a safety zone for students to work and grow as life-long learners. I completely and wholeheartedly believe that he has can teach any subject from beginning reading to WHATEVER!

I have taught math for the past 18 years. My students have consistently seen their grades improve from C's to B's and B's to A's. I have also helped students increase their overall SAT scores by 200-400 points, ACT scores by 4-8 composite points, and SAT Math Level 2 scores by 100-200 points.

I first carefully diagnose the student's strengths and weaknesses by analyzing previous standardized test scores or making them take an initial diagnostic test.

Then, I create a customized syllabus for each and every student based on what he/she most needs to improve the most in the shortest amount of time. I use only the best published materials and some of my own custom-made booklets.

As the lessons progress, I continually monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments until the student reaches his/her goal and no longer needs my services.

About Paul
I am a professional tutor who has successfully taught over 2,000 students for the past 19 years in a range of subjects including the SAT, ACT, English, math, college application essays, and writing contests. I graduated Yale, and I have won numerous essay contests.

I have helped thousands of students achieve their academic goals. I have increased old SAT scores 300-500 points, new SAT scores 150-300 points, and composite ACT scores 3-6 points.
I have raised math and English grades from C’s to B’s and B's to A's. Under my guidance, students have written college application essays that contributed to their acceptances into Yale, UPenn, Cornell, West Point, and dozens of other prestigious universities.
For a select few well-read students, I have coached them to win a variety of writing contests including the prestigious Scholastic Art
& Writing Awards.

Through classes or private lessons, I connect with students, motivate them to dream bigger and work harder, pinpoint areas of improvement, utilize proven methods, and above all, get results.

I live in northern New Jersey. My better half is Jeanette, and I have three beautiful children.

I went to Peak for about a year, from 8th grade to 9th grade and Paul was the best tutor I ever had. Not only did he teach us how to write well, but also gave us many of his life inspiring quotes that really motivated us students to always work hard. He gave a lot of advice that still helps me today in both writing and life. Going to Peak helped me to enjoy studying a lot more than I did and definitely improved my grade overall.

I have been working with Paul for a little over a year now and with his help, I have accomplished more than I ever imagined. He not only helped me with difficult math classes such as AP Calculus AB and standardized tests like the SAT but also helped me to become a better student overall. Paul also helped me with college applications and decisions which I really found helpful in deciding where I should apply. Paul is an amazing tutor not only for how much he is versatile between different subjects, whether it be AP Calculus to SAT to college essays, but also to how much he cares about your health and wellbeing. With my time working with him, Paul is someone who I can rely on for good advice and look up to.
