Basic mathematical principals learned from elementary school to college levels. I ensure that all basic fundamentals are well observed and understood by the student.

About Jonathan
About

I am a Florida native, active doctoral student, teacher and practitioner. My career includes performing and recording as a guitarist and teaching subjects such as music or math. Grade-school academic strengths in mathematics represent my enthusiasm for the subject. The math equivalent in music can be considered music theory, which is another passion of mine. I hope to take these well-rounded characteristics to teach and influence others with what I have learned in my education and career thus far.

Education & Teaching Experience:

I am currently pursuing my Doctorate of Musical Arts from Shenandoah University and hold a Masters of Music from the University of Akron and a Bachelor of Music from Stetson University (all degrees with a guitar performance emphasis). I also have a temporary teaching certificate for Music K-12 fro
m the Florida Department of Education. I have taught in Florida as a preferred substitute for general music classes, K-12. In college, I have given study sessions for music theory levels ranging from 4-part writing to post-serialism.

Degrees:
Doctorate of Musical Arts: Guitar Performance; Shenandoah University, expected May 2017/2018
Master of Music: Guitar Performance; University of Akron, May 2014
Bachelor of Music: Guitar Performance; Stetson University, 2011

While giving lessons:
I ensure that every student receives fundamental foundation pertaining to the subject. While learning the basics, I advise that the student organizes their lessons and materials in a way that displays progress over time. With the proper knowledge, we can treat the heart of a subject with refinement in order to grasp it's purpose and reason---whether its music or math.

Why?
My students have grown with confidence through a sense of accomplishment. Success does not only affect a person's well-being but can also impact other dimensions of their lives.

I tutor College and High School AP math. I do ONLINE tutoring as well as in-person. When I am helping a student my job is not to tutor but to teach.

About Dr. Arnold
Hello,

I have a Ph.D. in Math and have been teaching college math courses and tutoring HS math courses for over 40 years. My top subjects are Statistics, Probability, Calculus, Discrete Math, Finite Math as well as HS AP and pre-calculus classes.

I tutor in-person as well as online. With online tutoring I can be contacted on short notice and if I am free we can connect immediately so I can give homework assistance or help prep for an exam.

For In-Person tutoring I tutor in my home office, in your home or at a mutually agreeable location. I am near Queens College and St. John's University if meeting on campus is convenient. (Travel charge might increase for a longer travel distance or time. Upper level or graduate courses might be at a higher hourly rate.)

I have been successfully tutoring students for as long as I have been
teaching. My goal is to give my students the ability to understand the mathematical concepts that will enable him or her to do well in their particular course.

I know that math does not come easily to everyone and I tailor my tutoring to go at a pace that is appropriate for each individual.

It is just as important for a tutor to listen to the student as it is for the student to pay attention to the tutor.

I look forward to putting my tutoring to work to help you meet and exceed your expectations.

Dr. F. was extremely patient with my son. He always made sure to go over the questions until my son was able to do them on his own. We were able to contact him and get online help right away which was great when my son was stuck on a homework assignment.If anyone asks if I would recommend him I would give an emphatic yes!

I am a doctoral-level student and haven't taken a statistics course since being an undergraduate over 15 years ago. As such, Arnold has been tremendous in helping me revisit this topic, and I firmly believe he has the skillset to do this no matter what the student's level educational level is. He is extremely knowledgeable, courteous, and patient. I highly recommend him as a tutor. You will not be disappointed!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Education & Credentials ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I graduated with a degree from UCLA with high honors (Dean's Honors List, Magna Cum Laude) in Integrative Biology & Physiology. I also took many classes at UCLA in education, linguistics, history, and English. I had a cumulative GPA of 3.838 with 265.5 completed units at graduation and was a 10-time Dean's Honors List Recipient. I also was a member of the UCLA Regents Scholar Society, the Alpha Lambda Delta/Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies, the Alpha Epsilon Delta Pre-Health Honor Society, and Christian Students at UCLA. I worked as a TA for several undergraduate classes at UCLA, including Education 92F and Life Sciences 2-3. I also have gone through rigorous UCLA and Stanford University graduate-level coursework in science, math, educational strategies, and curriculum & instruction.
I have scored at the 98th percentile on the SAT I/II tests and received the highest score of 5 on multiple AP exams (see below for more details) as a high school student, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. I have been the recipient of over $350,000 worth of many university merit-based invitational and scholarship honors and awards. Some of the most notable scholarships I have been awarded are the Regents Scholarship from both UCLA and UCSB. Both provided me with a large monetary award (full-ride), priority enrollment, 4 years of room and board, and many other privileges, honors, and incentives.
The SAT examinations that I have scored at 98th percentile or higher are as follows: SAT I; SAT II - Math 2; and SAT II - Biology (M). I also took many AP exams during high school, achieving the AP Scholar with Distinction award by the end of my junior year. Some of the exams that I have taken include: AP Physics B (Score = 5); AP Chemistry (Score = 5); AP Biology (Score = 5); AP Calculus AB (Score = 5); AP Statistics (Score = 5); AP US Government & Politics (Score = 5). I continuously study and retake the SAT, ACT, and AP Exams to stay on par with both the big and small changes each year to the exams.
~~~~~~~~~~~ My Personal Message to You ~~~~~~~~~~~

One of the wisest teachers once said that poor grades, study habits, and test scores are not life-threatening, but they are college-, job- , career-, and quality-of-life threatening. The most competitive students take a pro-active approaching to academics and tutoring while the least competitive take a reactive approach. All you need to do is watching the documentary 'Two Million Minutes' by Bob Compton to realize why students in other countries such as India and China surpass American peers in almost every subject, especially language (writing, grammar, etc.), math, science, and engineering-related subjects. They attend extra classes and tutoring from 6-7 AM in the morning to almost midnight.

In today's fast-paced and competitive job market, there is simply too much to lose by not investing now in your child's or your education. If a student is struggling, it makes sense to get him/her the help needed so that the time spent in school is worthwhile. Great grades and test scores can open doors that may have been previously closed and are also significant factors when determining scholarships, so investing time and effort now can pay off substantially in the future. Finally, let's not forget the most important part in all of this: the student. The confidence, knowledge, and skills that a student gains through effective tutoring can last a lifetime.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch. Every day spent waiting is another class or lecture's worth of material that you might potentially fall behind or another low quiz/test/exam score that will only make it harder to recover from. I have had too many students who could have received the grade(s) they wanted had they contacted me from the beginning.

I have more than 25 years of teaching and tutoring experience. Last teaching position as Chairman of Statistical Engineering at University of Playa Ancha, Valparaiso, Chile. Living in Florida since 2016.
I have a B. S. in Economics and a M. Sc. in Statistics. I am also working in my Ph. D. thesis and I hope to finish on 2019. Actually, I am working as tutor at Palm Beach State College.
What is one of the most important things of teaching or tutoring? Making people understand "complicated things" with simple words. Despite math has many abstract concepts, it is nice to find a practical and easy way to make it easier.
What make me different? I do not only have theoretical experience, also applied and practical, for more than 20 years.
It does not matter in which level you are, I am sure that I can help you to succeed.
I have experience teaching basic math, algebra (basic, intermediate and linear), geometry, trigonometry, pre calculus, calculus (differential and integral), statistics ...

About Manuel
I began as tutor in 1990 (Guayaquil, Ecuador), when I was at high school. It was my real first job. Then, when I was at college, I taught at a public high school for 5 years. After that, I was instructor in the same university I studied and then moved to Chile to get a M. Sc. degree in Statistics and continued working as instructor of many topics (physics, pre calculus, statistics, project management, probabilities, inference, sampling, and more related). My last job was Chairman of Statistical Engineering (+2y) and, obviously, instructor of related topics.
I moved to USA after I got married, and I am starting a new life here. I am sure I can help you understanding the wonderful world of mathematical sciences. Feel free to contact me for any additional information.
