I coach actors with the intention of my actors getting to work. And they do. I’ll practice with you to discover the way only you create. I will give you the technique to discover your uniqueness and uncanny veracity for your craft and how to maintain emotional equilibrium and to have the ability to practice discipline and a work ethic. It’s also my job, as your coach, to look out for you. I want you to explore what it's like to experience the unbelievable amount of satisfaction you can have by allowing yourself to study acting. I teach from a method base and will work on monologues, scenes, and audition materials, collaborating with you on what it is you need to understand how we go about doing this thing called acting. I can work virtually. One thing you must know about me, I am nice. I won't crush your dreams. I will, however, make sure you attain them. I can come to you or you can meet me where I teach. I am in SF and Los Angeles. I successfully work virtually with actors, too. ...

About Kathryn
Kathryn K
I am happy to be offering private acting classes and vocal classes for all levels including technique for stage, film, on camera, audition technique, audition prep, monologue and scene study, script analysis, singing performance and sessions that educate about working in the business for Take Leasons students at a discounted rate. If you’re a singer and work with me you’re going to end up writing songs and playing an instrument. That’s how it is. I coach in person and online. I want my students to be working actors and performers and they are. Yes, we talk about how to make a living and and be an artist, because many people gotta do it. Work is work. It’s all how it goes.
I am a member of the Screen Actors Guild AFTRA and Actors Equity Association, a Critics Circle Award Winning Actor and I am a working performance artist. I a
m committed to helping artists experience their craft in a supportive, safe and challenging environment. Oh, I am really nice.
I want to see my actors and singers thrive and work and move into what they want to do.
I am most influenced by Stanislavsky and Lee Strasberg.
I am a Method coach. I have also studied at HB Studio in NYC, as well as other studios, and feel an actor will lead me to what works for them.
I also work extensively with many people who are in other industries on key note presentations and communication skills using tools that actors use to communicate. It is extremely effective.
I am here to help you delve into your creativity in a supportive and joyful way.
My students are committed to exploring their craft of acting, singing performance, songwriting and screenwriting. Most are working professionally and are repped by agents.
They have booked many roles, too many to name, but here are a few, Chance, HBO's, Thirteen Reasons Why, WestWorld, Looking, Blue Jasmine, Touching Home, Generations, productions at several Equity theatres throughout the country and countless National commercials. Most have joined SAG-AFTRA and Actors Equity and I encourage this.
When you study acting / singing performance w/ me you'll learn how to navigate the business because you must know how.

Auditions!!
They are definitely the most difficult and nerve wracking part of being an actor or singer, right? Booking work means your audition has to be as good as opening night.
Auditioning is about preparation and preparation takes consistent support. Look, showbiz is not a business about being alone. Artists thrive when working together. We are a collaborative bunch and collaborating to make sure you're ready and organized for your auditions makes sense.
Stop trying to muscle through this necessary step alone. No one who works consistently does that! They ask for help. ASK FOR HELP!!
Solidify your acting choices so you don't have to worry about them the day before your audition. Know your prep so you can internally drop into it when the casting director says, "Whenever you're ready."
Have your music material and performance choices prepared ahead of time.
BE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE.
Work with me when your agent sends you your sides so you show up READY. Know your lines. It's OK if your struggling with memorization.
Let's figure out How YOU memorize.
Let me coach you for online audition submissions.
If we are working virtually I will coach while you are taping yourself to submit your online audition. It works!
Let me collaborate with on script analysis in order for you to you understand your material before you audition.
Take your work seriously so you bring your most intelligent and inspiring work to the audition rooms.
You'll be bringing the agents, casting directors, directors, producers and writers the inspiration they crave regarding their beloved projects. Do that and you're gonna book.
I know you can work and I can't wait to make it happen with you.

My technique for teaching acting focuses on script and a character analysis to help the student better embody the character by understanding their motives, psychology, and worldview.

Professionally, acting has taken a backseat to my music work, but I've studied the craft extensively and enjoy imparting the knowledge. I would recommend my instruction in this area for someone who is approaching the craft for the first time.

About Jordan
Thank you for taking the time to view my profile- I look forward to helping you achieve your musical goals. I'm excited to announce that I'm now available to teach via Online if you're outside of my teaching radius or are seeking a more convenient alternative.

I'm a professional guitarist with a background in jazz, heavy metal, blues, classical, and bossa nova. In 2006 I graduated from the Berklee College of Music and am lead guitarist for the Atlanta band Axis of Empires.

Whether you are a beginning guitarist or a seasoned professional, I can expand and enhance your playing in any direction you choose. I look forward to getting to know you as a student and learning about what course of study will bring out not only your understanding of music but a musical style that is unique to you.

Having a long time love of all music I hav
e always enjoyed discussing music and educating others on its many aspects. As such I began teaching during summers home from Berklee and found that it was something I had a great deal of talent for. Now, with seven years of teaching experience behind me, I look forward to bringing my skills and insights to students of all ages and bring not only ability on the guitar but a greater love of music to a fresh crop of open minds!!

In addition to guitar, I am also qualified to teach voice, public speaking, dramatic acting, and all aspects of music theory, the latter of which I incorporate into all of my music lessons.

A FEW THINGS TO BE AWARE OF:

1. I am able to take lessons in your home or over Skype. I am no longer accepting lessons in my home.

2. Please only pick one teacher. I don't know why people do this but on more than one occasion I've had students come to me and say "I'm doing lessons with you and this other guy. I figure I can learn different things from both of you." You only need one teacher- if that's not me, I understand.

3. I will NOT remove you as a client on Takelessons so that I can take money under the table from you directly. Sometimes clients will say "the lessons on Takelessons are expensive- is there any way I can just pay you directly?" No, you may not. The amount you are paying is MY specified fee from which Takelessons takes a commission so paying me directly would not save you money. Furthermore, I have a binding agreement with Takelessons not to do this. If you press me on this matter I will discontinue your lessons altogether.

*** Lesson Details ***
Although I follow a specific lesson plan, its important to customize that to each student's skill level and specific needs. Thus, I will spend the first lesson evaluating where the student is in terms of overall musical awareness, existing skill on the instrument, and long term interest.

By the end of the first month, my beginning students will be able to perform basic chromatic and major scales, name the notes on the instrument, and have command of a few basic chords. With these core concepts and regular, committed practice, they will be able to learn and perform songs in a wide variety of styles after 3 to 6 months have passed.

My more advanced students will have a lesson plan customized to their specific goals and desires. In 3 to 6 months with such a student I will have them well on the path to accomplishing their long term goals, whether those be playing, composition, harmonic awareness, understanding of theory, or all of the above.

*** Studio Equipment ***
dedicated music room; cables/amps; electric & acoustic guitars; keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
Electric or acoustic guitar as needed.

*** Specialties ***
Having graduated from the Berklee College of Music, I follow their approach in educating the student. In this regard I teach music theory along with the physical act of playing the guitar, which serves to not only enrich the experience for the student but demonstrate how what they are learning is applied to music on the whole.

I am fluent in many genres and specialize in rock, jazz, the blues, and various fusion genres. Because music functions off of the same principles regardless of genre, I can take whatever style the student might best appreciate and structure my lesson plan around it.

Jordan is very knowledgeable and a good teacher. You can find good guitar players that will show you how to play guitar, but Jordan is much more than that and can instruct even veteran players on how to improve their play.

Great Instruction for all levels

I am in my mid-thirties and have never had any formal musical instruction until I started taking lessons with Jordan a few months ago. I was a little nervous about starting the lessons, but Jordan made me very comfortable right away. You definitely can tell he knows music inside and out. He is also very helpful about incorporating just enough music theory into each lesson, so I can expand my knowledge of theory, but not so much that I get overwhelmed. I would definitely recommend Jordan to anyone looking for a great vocal or guitar instructor.

With a BA in Acting from London's Central School of Speech and Drama, Crystal has learned to use the nuts and bolts of technique to support freedom in artistic choice. With a focus on stage performance, she works with students to find their own unique approach to acting.

About Crystal
Crystal brings a lifetime’s experience of professional musicianship to each of her lessons. Born into a family of musicians, she sang her first solo at age 2. She also benefits her students with an extraordinarily diverse musical background, having worked as a vocalist in gospel, country, musical theater, jazz, classical, rock, pop and soul styles. Her performing career has taken her from L.A. church meetings to London’s Houses of Parliament.

Crystal hails originally from Los Angeles, CA - where her musical parents gave her a head start by including her in the family business the moment she was able to contribute. She went on to study classical voice, piano and music theory at The Boston Conservatory of Music. After concluding her studies in London, she returned home and began working regularly as a theater performer, appearing in twen
ty world premiers and re-imagined classics. Most notably she played the lead role of Keely Smith in the big band jazz musical “Louis and Keely: Live At The Sahara” during its eight-month run at Westwood’s Geffen Playhouse. She also formed her own rock band, The Honeysuckle Jones Revival, with whom she performed her own songs all over Los Angeles. And she began working as a studio session vocalist, providing demo vocals for other songwriters, as well as arranging and performing back-up vocals for original artists, including Laura Roppe (currently in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Uncharted list of emerging artists.) Crystal played the lead role of Brooke in the new operatic rock musical “The Burning Opera LA” during its Los Angeles run in 2011 as well as providing ensemble vocals and playing piano and bass. She also performs holiday tunes from the Golden Age of American songwriting with musical quartet The Sleigh Belles.

Crystal believes that music is serious business but that it should be fun. She encourages her students to play music they love, as well as expanding their musical knowledge. She is a firm believer in basics first and emphasizes theory and technique as the tools to support creativity and provide freedom, power and control. She believes effort beats talent every time and the student who practices consistently will see results, whatever their level of ability. Most of all, she believes we were all born to make music.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lesson structure varies depending on the student's instrument, age, level of experience and musical style. However, all lessons focus on:

Technique
Music theory
Performance style

After 3 or 6 months of consistent lesson attendance and practice, students will have a clear understanding of how their instrument works and how to care for it. They will be able to read basic music notation. They will be working toward clearly defined musical goals and they will have at least three performance pieces learned.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Loft Space: full size electric piano with weighted keys, small digital recorder, microphone, Garage Band, parents can sit in on lessons

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring a small keyboard for vocal students with no piano, karaoke tracks and a digital recorder. I also bring a selection of games. Students are expected to purchase all necessary books and sheet music.

*** Specialties ***

Amazing singng instructor

Crystal has increased my daughter’s self-esteem and expressiveness through song. My daughter is now writing her own poetry and song lyrics, as well as being able to combat her once shyness quality. She loves to perform in front of others now and has a confidence level that amazes me, especially now that she is going into those “teen” years. I think a lot of thanks needs to go to Crystal, for assisting my daughter in reaching her current creative level!

About Maria
MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:

(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno
w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

Each Lesson will consist of a check-in on your goals in relation to acting. Feel free to bring in scenes, or monologues you are wanting to work, or we can look for other material as well. Work highly focuses on character circumstances, and developing a journey.

About Shelley
I'm a professional singer/teacher residing in New York City with degrees from Indiana State University, and New York University with a specialization in Classical Art Song, Musical Theatre Repertoire, and Vocal Pedagogy.

Every lesson is about YOU. So each week we will take a look at your goals for the lesson, whether you are preparing for college auditions, school talents shows, a desire to work with music theory, or piano skills, this is your opportunity to explore. Everything is possible.

As a professional singer myself, I am constantly auditioning on broadway, off-broadway, and for smaller local and regional theater opportunities. I believe that as a teacher I have to continue to be in the field and learning as the industry continues to change. I have to be aware of the opportunities in this business. I have been hired by pr
ofessional opera and musical theatre companies, in additional to large choral works as a soloist, and have a private studio in Washington Heights.

Prior to NYC I taught middle school choir for 200+ students, of which I received teacher of the year in 2012. I also still hold a valid teaching license in the state of Indiana and currently applying toward my NYS teaching certification.

I look forward to hearing your beautiful voice and helping you to embrace music. Feel free to check out my website for any further information!

Want to hit the stage and be in the spotlight, but don't know where to begin? Feel like you know your casting "type", but want to expand your possibilities? Is performing Shakespeare your worst nightmare? No problem! Within no time at all, I'll make sure that you'd feel confident to rock an audition, know what to expect for a rehearsal process, and how to hone your craft so you'll be prepared for anything a director throws your way. I've studied firsthand with Shakespearean actors who've performed at the Globe Theatre, Musical Theatre performers from both Broadway and the West End, and some of the best improv performers America has to offer. We can figure out which acting approach works best for you, and how you can effectively expand your repertoire. Let's get to work!

About Caroline
Hi there! My name's Caroline, and I'm a working actor and teacher in Chicago. I received my BA in Theatre Arts at the University of Mississippi, and then pursued my Masters in Musical Theatre from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, currently ranked 3rd best Performing Arts Institution in the world. I want to make sure that no matter where you are in your singing or acting career, you will become confident in your skills and be ready to face the world and show just what you uniquely have to offer!

I’ve studied extensively with singing professionals, running the gamut. From members of the National Opera Association to certified Estill Method teachers to pop artists, I take my vast array of knowledge to make sure I find a method and practice that works best for YOU.

Voice students can expect a noticeable improvement in their vocal t
echnique. Whether you’re looking to expand your range, learn how to “belt” or sing classically, or be able to create a true acting connection with a song, I can help you! We’ll start by diagnostically looking at your voice, breaking any “bad habits” and creating a solid foundation on which to build.

I also teach acting, and strive to make sure I meet whatever are my student’s custom criteria: whether that is nailing an audition or callback, how to fully create your own unique approach to a character, or how to make yourself a more flexible and dynamic actor as a whole. I also love helping people crack the daunting code that is Shakespeare and making it more relatable and approachable.

Performing arts teachers are basically cheerleaders, therapists, and mentors all rolled into one; and I hope that I can be that for you! I love teaching because nothing is quite as exhilarating as seeing firsthand how much someone can improve in their skill. So if this sounds like a good fit for you, shoot me a message and let's see just how far you can go to improve yourself and achieve your goals!
