In my time of need (I had a B- average), I was fortunate enough to receive Varna's tutoring support. Varna is clear ("Do this"), firm ("Don't do that") , AND exceptionally kind ("You can do this!") in her approach. Thanks to Varna, I was able to get an A+ in both Calculus 1 and Calculus 2. You are the best Varna, thank you!!!

Got an A!!!

I'm usually a horrible mathematics student but this semester I was taking calculus which is daunting on its own even for students who have been taking mathematics. I have had a 5 year gap from my studies and Varna has been excellent, she helped me work my way up from an F to an A!!! I would recommend her for ALL my future mathematics classes.

About Katy
I am a licensed Social worker with tutoring experience in and out of college. I have the most experience in tutoring Algebra and other math. I have a student now that I am helping with AP English who has dyslexia. I enjoy watching her grammar skills increase and her overall understanding of the concepts develop. I am great with any age individual and have the patience it takes to work with any kind of student (special needs included).

I believe that people learn the best when they understand the meaning and logic behind what they are learning. When a student can see a pattern develop they develop an understanding that can be universally applied to many different areas of study and life circumstances. Learning is different then memorizing. It is especially important to understand the concepts behind the subject matter when pla
nning continue in a similar learning subject.

I like to prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing the subject matter in direct correlation to what you are struggling with. This ensures that when we meet we are ready to effectively and efficiently improve your knowledge and clarify any confusion.

Master in all algebra concepts. Can identify student shortfalls and address them through the subject fundamentals approach.

About Daniel
I'm a graduate of UCLA School of Engineering with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. I have a passion for explaining how the physical world works through math and physics along with 10 years of tutoring experience in those subjects, test prep, and mentorship programs. The teaching strategy I believe in emphasizes subject fundamentals, a powerful and necessary tool for higher problem solving. This strategy has proven effective regardless of the student's educational background or mental ability. Besides being knowledgeable, I am motivating, caring, and patient in guiding your student to academic success!

Executive Functioning is a separate realm that tutoring can assist in. It deals with cognitive processes including organization, time management, and study skills. Much of the difficulty students face in academic subjects can be attribute
d to the lack of executive functioning. They either cannot keep up with the pace and workload that advanced courses demand or haven't figured out the best way to study for themselves. I am able to assess a student's shortcomings and formulate a plan for higher achievement.

Math:
• Elementary • Pre-Algebra • Algebra 1 & 2 • Geometry • Pre-Calculus

Excellent tutor! Daniel tutored my 13 year old son in Physics. My son went from being completely lost to getting an A in the class. Very professional, explains topics clearly, connects well with student. My son loved the Skype/online white board method of teaching. No need to go anywhere or sit in traffic. Daniel was flexible with setting up lessons and even made time when urgently needed, like before a test. My son had a great experience and can't wait to learn with Daniel again when he gets to HS physics.

He has a great way of not just having kids understand math but retain the information for tests. He helped our son go from failing to fully passing his math class. Definitely recommend Daniel and we are using him through summer to get ahead.

Math doesn't need to be hard, you can understand it and even have fun with it! Algebra is my favorite subject and one that I have been tutoring for several years. While I aim for comprehension over scores, grades typically improve with comprehension. In each tutoring session, you can choose to receive homework help, test preparation, or extra practice that I can supply.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from North Dakota State University in 2012. Since graduating, I have tutored various subjects with Varsity Tutors (online platform) and have tutored both in person and online for learners ranging from elementary age to adults working towards a Masters degree.

I serve as the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) NDSU section Counselor, a position I volunteered for in 2014, providing a link between college engineering students and the professional world. Other volunteer work includes teaching sessions at Expanding Your Horizons. This is an event to introduce middle school girls to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) fields.

I have been tutoring Algebra for over 9 years. Most of the students I have worked with have been in middle school and high school although I have worked with adult students as well. Tutoring allows me to really focus on the areas where a student is struggling instead of just trying to get through all the material. Additionally, if you know a particular concept, no reason to do every single problem!
Math is all about creating a solid foundation. If a student misses a concept, they will have issue with learning later math lessons. Helping students when they have missed a step or have not have enough practice in a concept is crucial for future learning. My focus is to always get that solid foundation so they don't hate math and can feel confident in themselves as a learner.

About Lorie
Thank you for your interest in lessons! I tutor Algebra, Flute and Psychology. I have been tutoring in Algebra for over 9 years because it's fun for me, which I know is hard to believe! I like to help students to really understand the concepts they need to know for future endeavors or to at least get through class. I offer homework help for students or general help for people who need to brush up on certain concepts.

Additionally, I like giving flute lessons because I have received lessons in the past and I know how helpful and motivating they are. Lessons help you to outline what your goals are for playing. Plus, you have someone to critique your playing and give you correct instruction in areas where you are weak.

I majored in psychology and love learning all about it. The schools of thought and how our brain learns and
works is fascinating to me. I hope you will feel the same way after learning about the subject.

Experience:
I have an Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from the University of Idaho. I started as a major in music education and math education, and decided they were not for me because I preferred tutoring, instead of teaching a lot of students at once. I couldn't stand leaving a student behind to struggle on their own and possibly give up on something due to time constraints or not understanding how something was taught. I prefer to work with students one on one or in small groups, so they receive individualized attention. I like to tailor my lessons to each student and really focus on what they need help with to build a solid foundation for the next stepping stone in their education, whether it's Algebra or Flute.

I have tutored in math for over 9 years. Most of that is 9 years solid, but I started with part time here and there as a middle school student.
I also started teaching flute lessons as a high school student to beginning middle school students at the request of my band teacher.

I truly believe if you set your mind to learn something, you can. We are so lucky to be living in an age when education can be found easily. I hope you will consider taking lessons with me so we can help each other learn!
