I offer a fun, interactive teaching style that encompasses more than 20 years of performing and 15 years of teaching experience. As a performer I have worked as a professional singer, actor, musician, and dancer. I have always had a passion for teaching, directing, and composing. While my love for performing has lessened over the years, I have found my true calling: teaching, directing, and helping others to find their passion for music and the performing arts. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a special emphasis in music, theatre, dance, and psychology. I am a graduate candidate working on completing my thesis as my final requirement for a Masters of Arts degree in Music at San Diego State University. *** Lesson Details *** Good technique, styling, and musicianship are VERY important but you have got to have FUN learning and performing! I channel and encourage each student's creativity while helping them to learn to use their gifts as expertly as possible. My students can be seen on Broadway, Off-Broadway, on television, in commercials, in the movies, and in professional regional theatre throughout the United States. I have proudly seen many of my students go on to pursue higher education and careers in music, theatre, and dance.

I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical voice training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting, I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I received a B.A. For comparative literature and creative writing at the State University of New York at Purchase and have recently completed my Master's degree in social work at Walden University. I believe, within all of us, Is the ability to express something distinctive and original. I work to help students discover their unique voice, whether it be through singing, acting, or writing. I share with my students an array of tools to gain the ability
and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges students may face when pursuing a life in the creative and performing arts, having worked professionally in those areas for most of my adult life. I believe it is the teacher's job to respect each student's individual process of learning. My students have gone on to become recording artists, Broadway performers, movie actors, Blues and cabaret artists, and published writers.
*** Lesson Details *** Voice I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises. Acting As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on. Creative and Lyric Writing I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

*** Travel Equipment *** I provide a piano, cd/mp3 player and an large library of songbooks to work from. The student should bring sheet music of songs they want to work on and a recording device.

A very good first lesson. We went over breathing exercises and scales. Also had time for Amy to critique my speaking style through a portion of a speech I will be giving in a month. Time well-spent.
She briefly went over the next lesson plan and gave me a little homework to do as well.
I got a lot out of this lesson and I can see how this will help me accomplish my goal of being a better public speaker and having a more controlled and stronger voice.

Working with Christine has been nothing short of an amazing experience. I have learned so much about the industry and have received so much insight on what it takes to be a great actress/comedian/etc. When I first started out, I had no idea what direction I wanted to take or where to start. Christine was extremely patient and came equipped with a roadmap to getting started. She takes every lesson at the pace that works best for me. Christine is the BEST!
As a beginner improver, I am so lucky I found Christine! She has taught me so many valuable tools that have improved my scene work and my decision making. In addition, she always addresses my specific issues during each lesson and even emails me with advice and fun GIFS! (no, not "gifts", but graphic interchange formats! :D Every class is fun and lighthearted and I look forward to it each week.
My lessons are virtual, but she is still very effective at participating in scenes and even encouraged my fellow classmate to join me during our lessons. We can't say enough great things about each class!!
I have been a performing artist since the age of 9. Over the years, I have worked under dozens of production companies for film and stage. As world-renowned author, Malcolm Gladwell, states in his book "Outliers," it takes 10,000 hours of experience to be considered an expert in any field. After hitting that mark around Christmas 2012, I began to write a curriculum and had my first student a few weeks later.
We will study personal development, (how to prepare your “slate” for each new story), practice character and script analysis, (breaking down each new story to its fundamental core), invest in an understanding for set/stage/studio performances and the histories behind them, in addition to building a skill set in monetizing your growth in the entertainment industry. My 11 year old son is already a working actor, but we needed someone to iron out the "rough spots" and give him some extra coaching. Since we don't live near LA, we first started working with Tyler because he was local. He is fantastic! My son just loves him, and they connect really well. When he had an audition for a lead part in a movie, Tyler took the time outside of our normal schedule for some one on one time at the last minute. He is always friendly, professional, and always flexible with our schedule. My son did not get that part, but he auditioned for a tv pilot a few weeks later. David is very knowledgeable and gave my daughter such great advice and direction to work with. He broke down each line of her scene and the motivation behind it and took the extra time with her to make sure she understood everything and was delivering it naturally and effectively. He even spent extra time with her and didn’t finish the lesson until she fully got everything down. Very professional, fun, friendly and genuine. I have completed the Players Workshop of Second City six part course twice and performed in their graduation show twice as well. I write comedy for my own purposes and study comedy almost constantly. However improv. for the actor can be an entirely different process and is based mainly on finding your character via various exercises. Open mid required!
I have always been an actor first, it is the craft and discipline in which I hold my advanced degrees; it is my first and eternal love. There really isn't much more one could add to such a claim.
