Daniel cancelled my son's first lesson with less than a one hour notice. He attended the second lesson, but again cancelled the third lesson with a 30 minute notice. He sent me a text message to notify me and I called him back and left a voicemail. 24 hours later and I still haven't gotten a call back. I want my money back. He has wasted my son's time. Poor professionalism.

Daniel adapted throughout the course of the hour-long lesson to understand what I already knew and find appropriate ways to fill in the gaps of my knowledge. He also started me on the process of learning a new approach when looking at and learning to play new music pieces.

Fernando was fantastic with my 14 year old son. He asked what type of music he wanted to play to keep him engaged. He had a great 45 minute lesson with him. Fernando is passionate about violin and it shows. Looking forward to continuing with Fernando! Highly recommend him!

My daughter was doing well but short of excelling in math. I sent her to Julia for that extra push and confidence that she needed. She really helped her have confidence and made her thorough with her concepts. She been doing really great ever since!

Julia is a highly knowledgeable, professional and personable teacher. My son has been tutored by her since the age of 4 and is now 13. His MAP and PARCC scores are off the charts and he just received his placements for Stevenson High School with the recommendations for the highest math classes offered to incoming freshmen. Julia taught him to love and be passionate about mathematics. Her primary goal is to make sure that the students learn in a stress-free environment and with that strategy she is able to accomplish brilliant results. I recommend Julia highly. She is very approachable and patient, loves children and loves what she does.

All humans need to have an understanding of Philosophy, in my opinion. Studying Philosophy teaches us how to think critically, how to reason, and how to live an "examined life."

Philosophy is a multi-dimensional subject that includes ethical theory (what is the right thing to do and why?), logical reasoning (is it correct to reach a conclusion based on these facts?), and metaphysics (addressing the huge "who am I?" "why am I here?" "what happens when I die?' questions.)

For many thousands of years, humans have understood that our individual evolution needs a framework, a foundation upon which our ever-busy minds can depend on for grounding. Now, in our world where technology allows immediate distortions of reality, of facts, we need to know how to think clearly.

And, most importantly, I believe that studying Philosophy can be FUN! Come join me as we explore all the ways to apply our reasoning abilities.

About Edie

My name is Edie Sheeks. I teach English fluency and Philosophy lessons. I enjoy reading, walking, traveling, having dinner with friends. My household includes a large, greyhound-mix dog--my walking trainer!--and two tabbies (all three are rescues). Listening to music, walking by the sea, and being

I had the opportunity to work with Douglas a number of times during my tenure as a part-time instructor at SCORE Educational Center. What I noticed about him was that he related very well to the children he worked with - he was a very enthusiastic tutor of English and math! He was most generous with the "high fives" and praise, and he also knew how to get students back on track if their focus strayed. Also, I saw him work very well with the parents; he always took the time to patiently explain lesson plans and students' progress between sessions. I have known Douglas personally for many years. He was the one who encouraged me to work at SCORE Educational Center given my background in Education - I thank him for that because I enjoyed my time there very much while I was able to stay (unfortunately, I had to leave that position for a full-time job elsewhere). SCORE Educational Center is no longer in existence. Douglas currently works as an independent tutor, and given how long I've seen clients stick with him, I have no doubt that they are enjoying the same level of attention and enthusiasm he provided at SCORE. When he speaks about the progress of independent clients and how they respond to him, it is with enthusiasm and a glowing smile. If you are looking for a tutor that is intelligent, dedicated, enthusiastic, and simply great with kids and parents, then Douglas is your man.

"Knowing Akib has been a pleasure, not only as a teacher but as a person. As a student, the aim of our lessons was to increase my ability to present my work in Statistics. She also helped me to "warm up" with my Statistics, providing pleasant and interesting conversations. I consider that my objective has been achieved. Akib is truly committed to her work. She is able to convey enthusiasm for the subject, each class was an interesting time and not an obligation. I can not imagine more attentive and enthusiastic person to teach. It has been an excellent choice."

"Jenni has an incredible depth of knowledge of both Latin and Greek, reflecting not only her years of experience with both languages, but also a very concerted effort to think about the best way to teach these languages.

This became very apparent when I approached her to help me in what I felt would be a near impossible task: to learn a semester's worth of Ancient Greek in one month, starting from scratch.

Her clarity of explanation, her command of the material, and her professionalism as a tutor and teacher all made that possible, to the point where when I actually showed up to class, I actually found myself ahead of where everybody else was. I had mastered the material so well thanks to her efforts, that on the first test, I achieved a 104% (even got the extra credit mark), much to the impressed amazement of my new professor.

So when I give her this solid review of her skills, it is not to her as a tutor, or even a teacher. It is to her as a professional. Which is what she is in every sense of the word, as an educator, an admirer, and a bonafide inhabitant of the world of classical languages."
