My undergraduate degree was in Environmental Sciences from the school of Natural Resources at Cornell University. I worked for the Department of Environmental Conservation(DEC) in NYState in education and outreach. I worked for the US Forest Service in Oregon, Region 6 in wildland fire, and in public education campaigns. I ran teacher education and outdoor schools teaching about plants and trees, marine ecology, forests and streams in Oregon, as a Science Specialist at the Lane ESD in Oregon.

I have taught botany and agriculture units in my classrooms, and developed lessons to teach teachers and resource specialists how to teach about trees and plants. I have held teaching certification in Agriculture since 1994 in the state of Washington. I have worked at trail museums and nature facilities. I have helped to put together herbarium specimens--for both terrestrial and marine plants (and algae!) I would love to help you with your work with plants in botany and related fields.

Personal Finance is my passion. I have taught it to high school students for 12 years. I have a BA of Science in Management with an Emphasis in Psychology and I am a Ramsey Preferred Finance Coach. Students are provided lessons geared to developing behaviors that increase the student’s success in three measurable areas: overall money management, objective financial health areas like savings and debt levels, and subjective feelings of financial confidence and well-being. Each lesson is steeped in the No Debt Philosophy as to help students understand how to live a full life while living debt free and embrace the debt free philosophy in a way that makes them excited and passionate about their own financial future.

Learning to read can be challenging in English. Our language, while beautiful, has as many unique characteristics as do our people! Since I have a secondary English minor, I've had long experience in reading, teaching and interacting with many levels of students.

Difficulty in reading can often be simply a translation problem. When that glitch is narrowed in on, and taken apart, the magic of words opens up!

About Marsha

In this crazy time, remote teaching is what we do! I’ve found it works quite well, and am enjoying seeing students own space as well. Happy distancing learning! Hello! I know you want to know about me, but this is really about YOU! I am a music coach. That means that my role is to find out

I have been taking lessons with Marsha for several months. Marsha has been helping me immensely to become a better singer. I am a novice vocalist and Marsha has worked with me patiently. I feel as if I have been progressing nicely with my vocal training.

I worked with Marsha for about 10 weeks. Singing was something on my "bucket list" and I wanted to find out why I didn't know how to do it. I learned a ton from Marsha, and I also learned that I wasn't a hopeless case!!
Jason
I was a student of Marsha’s for several years, and I have never had such a qualified instructor! Incredibly bright, positive, flexible, and experienced. Genuinely enjoyed my time learning from her.

Elena was able to teach someone 500 miles away the basics to a slew of different Latin ballroom dances (salsa, marengue, bachata, cumbia step, etc.) In just a few lessons I was able to feel comfortable enough with the steps and timing to be able to dance in public with others! She was very amazing and was willing to accommodate to my needs as a student. She gave plenty of reference material as well as songs so that I'd be able to practice when not taking lessons. I would highly recommend her as a teacher to anyone who is wanting to learn Latin Ballroom dance, but doesn't know where to start!

Lessons with me are highly interactive. Active learning is what I'm striving for; an engaged student can learn. As many a professor of mine has said, math is not a spectator sport. It is learned by actively engaging with the concepts and the mechanics.

I focus on finding out where the student is in terms of understanding, and meeting them intellectually wherever they may be. A lesson with me is truly where there is no such thing as a dumb question. Understanding why things are the way they are is central to my approach. Understanding is a "force multiplier" that takes a student far beyond mere rote memorization of rules that are otherwise quickly forgotten.

Of course, the goal is to be able to demonstrate understanding, which typically requires being able to solve problems. Once understanding of a concept seems to be emerging, I am happy to help guide the student through a variety of exercises to give the student the confidence that they "really get it", and can work ...

About Andrew

I am both experienced and patient as a teacher. I have clear memories of what it was like to learn new things for the first time in math, and so I empathize with the student who may be wrestling with new and different ideas. I began teaching back in college in the early 1980s, when I was a teachi

"In our limited time together, Colin effectively helped me to prepare and be ready for the AP Calculus exam. He was able to cover any topic that I had questions on, and in great detail; he always explained each step of every problem thoroughly, not leaving anything out of the picture.

Another thing worth mentioning is Colin's passionate approach to teaching. He would always go about each lesson with unmistakable enthusiasm, showing that even calculus could be fun, if you were willing to see it as so. He was also always willing to go all the way with any problem, even if it went over the time limit; he wanted to make sure that I had no questions or concerns about any topic, no matter how complex it might have been. So, all in all, if you are looking for a suitable calculus tutor, Colin is certainly a very worthy option!"
