Hello! Thanks for visiting my Takelessons profile. Let me start off by telling you a bit about myself: I have been performing for over 25 years as a musician, acting since I was a small boy, and working consistently with public speaking, accent reduction and other presentational skills throughout my career. I started my musical education as a woodwind player and settled in to the wonderful world of singing over time. Music has opened me up to so many incredible opportunities from touring the world to performing in marvelous concert halls and working with some of today's most respected artists, as well as giving me the opportunity to expand my performance skills through acting in various plays, musicals, television, and film.
Performing has absolutely b
een my salvation! Throughout my life it has been a best friend and constant source of joy, and I share this gift with others so that it might help them to find the same joy. After more than 10 years of teaching, I have so many new experiences to draw from and share with my students. I spent nearly 10 years performing with Disney in California and abroad in their Tokyo Disney cast, and I must say that those experiences, vast and varied as they are, have given the word "performance" a depth that I couldn't have imagined. Those experiences have made me excited to dive into every lesson with fresh ideas that will mesh well with many tried and tested teaching techniques.
Originally from Los Angeles, I now reside in Orange County and I'm proud to have expanded my studio to serving clients all over the world with online lessons via Skype and FaceTime! I get such joy from sharing my experiences with a diverse group of people from so many walks of life. If you're interested in learning more about my lesson style, feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to talk with you about a plan to help you reach your goals!
For Students of Voice: Teaching Style
Over the past several years I have focused much of my personal growth on developing my ears' ability to pick out and pinpoint vocal “placement”, resonance, subtleties of timbre, changes in pitch, breath support, air speed and flow, pronunciation and diction, and in general, the way in which all of these work together to create style. From these assessments, I work with the student’s particular needs to address each area individually and based on the learning style of each person. To illustrate to the student their method as I see and hear it, as well as ways in which they might make changes to facilitate the ease of singing --be they changes of tessitura (range), length of phrase, tone color, the release of unnecessary tension etc.-- I make use of vocalise (vocal exercises), simile and metaphor, examples from recorded performances, demonstration, self assessment, and techniques to “trick” the voice into acting in a different way, in addition to videos, diagrams, and texts on anatomy and physiology. I feel that all of these tools provide a unique and personalized learning experience for each student.

Looking forward to hearing from you...All the best,
Find your English accent without losing your uniqueness! I help students acquire a clear and expressive American English accent. If typical approaches to English pronunciation don't work for you, I can help. My approach is physical as opposed to learning by hearing and imitating sounds. I have worked with seasoned professionals as well as newly arrived immigrants just beginning to learn English. My students often have a strong command of the language, but are concerned that they aren't being fully heard and understood. You will find a pleasant and supportive studio where I create an individualized plan tailored to your goals and needs. You already have a good voice--you can build on that and enhance your American English in your professional and social life.
If conventional approaches to improving your speaking voice aren't working for you, I can help. A teacher since 1999, I draw on a wide range of experiences and techniques. I can work with you to create an easy, enjoyable plan.I've worked with children, high school/college students, professional actors, educators, broadcasters, singers, dancers, executives, students with special needs, senior citizens, immigrants, ESL students, and refugees. I employ Lessac, Berry, Linklater, and Skinner voice and body work in addition to my own teaching methods. I am based in the beautiful mountains of Southwestern Virginia. I'm happy to answer your questions and help you grow in vocal power, skill, and confidence!
Jennifer has identified several ways that I use my voice inefficiently (my description - she is much kinder in her choice of words). My homework is concrete and substantive enough so that I can experience a different way of speaking. One example is what to do with my tongue when I say specific words. I think this could make a real difference for me.

I enjoyed my conversation with Jennifer. She taught me some useful exercises that help to cope with my stress. Look forward to the next lessons with Jennifer. Thank you!
I have advanced linguistic training in phonology and am intimately familiar with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) which makes it easy for me to detect and correct phonemic elements of speech. I also have advanced written and oral skills in the Spanish language, which have broadened my awareness of phonemes contained within the IPA. I am an efficient and effective communicator, skilled at dealing with the complexities of meaning and social uses of language, and am extremely resourceful in finding relevant study materials for the individual student. I largely assisted in launching a new program at a University in Alabama that offered English literacy and pronunciation assistance for nonnative English-speaking students. I formulated and developed a consultation model to identify and modify problematic specific speech patterns. My method to improve intelligibility by improving pronunciation efficiency is straightforward and extremely effective. I listen to and record ...
Hi! I’m Jaci and I’m a linguist. I’ve studied Spanish for 13 years and linguistics for 6 years. I have a BA in Spanish and am ESL certified. After tutoring non-native English speakers at the college level for years, I found a love for phonology (study of speech sounds) and so found my niche in accent reduction, or accent modification. It’s essentially the process of modifying a person’s pronunciation so their speech is more easily understood by native speakers. While working on my Masters, I helped pilot a university program to help students from all over the world speak clearer. Each semester, my students would come to me twice a week— and my lessons bore favorable results!
I am an experienced language instructor with a demonstrated history of working in administrative, healthcare, communication and localization industries. I am ski
lled in translation, Spanish and English grammar, foreign accent reduction (PESL), management, customer service and global travel. I have a strong education, including an MA ESL certification. While working in the University setting, I first focused on Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language (ESL) language, then progressed to accent modification for non-native English speaking Teaching Assistants (TA), then included students in nursing, engineering and more.
I love to connect one-on-one to analyze, make a personalized lesson plan, and help each person get what they need. Let’s get to work on improving your intelligibility! :)
It's pretty likely I will ask you to read to me or tell me about your day. I enjoy listening to other dialects, you will get some practice reading and speaking English (just what you need to be understood). And I'm certainly glad to help out with of the annoying snafus this task called English presents. My accent is native neutral from conservative Minnesota. I could do accents in Italian, Norsk, or French too if it helps, but my specialty is English without much of an accent. Tell me all about your day.
Join me for the creative unleashing of highly effective processes of learning success. Your instruction will include: A. creative problem solving (unleashing the genius within) B. formation; a foundation is planned (architect) C. building; drafts are written (carpenter) D. finishing; the writing is polished (finishing editor/proofreader) I've used these guiding principles countless times in my life. Just as a jeweler would not be able to sell rough stones, Jill would not have been able to make anything in the publishing field without employing these principles. Her college papers would have been fair to dull rocks. She can say this as the daughter of a bricklayer who was the son of a stonemason in a familial line that dates back to middle 1600. So, of course, I did learn about laying bricks and throwing rocks too. Not very many structures
stand the test of time when we throw rocks (rough drafts). Only with this brick, mortar, and finish will the building stand. But enough about my lineage. My capstone point is that the finishing point of any building or writing should communicate a great product. In creating this description I had the above principles in mind. My college papers, business papers, copywriting, web designs, resumes, and even informal conversations are inclusive of this process of which proofreading is a vital component. Why? Well, I might want to throw a rock at myself if I assume myself incapable of accomplishing as much. And as the daughter of a bricklayer, I think I know about bricks and buildings, and mortar, and capstones such as proofreading. So now at my concluding paragraph contains the capstone of what is called proofreading. Proofreading, as my gem of a teacher told me, is constructed with similar principles. It contains a precise methodology which assures great communication. I would like to involve you in this structure. Please step in the door so I may explain the steps involved in editing and proofreading as art, the elements and principles of Art and English as your toolkit, and design as your structured building of success!

I had 4 lessons with her so far, now waiting for my last one. She asked me to tell her what I would like from her for my last lesson... honestly, I want her to keep doing what she's been doing - nothing different. I don't think a teacher can get any better than her!
