Social media, video games, music, movies, and more require English Language Arts skills.

English Literature is made up of art, which is why it is called English Language Arts. As a fan of various arts, such as music, movies, poetry, etc., I enjoy making connections between what my students are familiar with and the objective of the lesson. I keep up with the most appropriate recent trends in order to help students accomplish their goals using relevant content. It is important for me to establish good relationships with my students, so I can learn about their interests and shape lessons that they will be motivated to interact with. I am greatly influenced by the Brazilian educator and philosopher, Paulo Freire, who understood that students have individual needs, and they must be able to "read the world" around them before they can "read the word" of literature.

I have 3 years of classroom teaching experience, and I am certified to teach grades 6-12.

About Louis

I am a middle school English Language Arts teacher with three years of classroom experience, teaching grades 5-8. I graduated from Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey with a Bachelor's Degree in Education and a Bachelor's Degree in English. At Rowan, I studied various forms of English Literat

As an acting and voice coach, I know how to help you not only look and sound good while speaking, but also how to feel good doing it! Speaking in public is hard and not something that is comfortable for everyone. I help people become more comfortable and confident in their presentation skills while also providing the tools and skills necessary for proper speech and presentation while speaking.

Note that I do not assist in writing speeches or presentations. At times, I may assist in editing down or clarifying a presentation aid (i.e. PowerPoint presentation) but I do not assist in selecting, editing, or proofing material. My focus in these sessions is on your overall presentation and your confidence while presenting.

It is my grasp of foreign languages that makes me an effective English teacher. For instance, learning the complex grammar of Latin and Greek gave me a thorough understanding of English grammar and the ability to relate to other people’s native languages. I have spent many hours proofreading papers for international students. They find my instruction especially informative because I not only fix mistakes but provide an explanation. When I point out the patterns of grammar, similar mistakes show up less and less, and my students feel more confident that they are writing sentences correctly.

I learned English teaching methods through my tutoring experience. Over a span of four months, I gave a Turkish visiting scholar a systematic overview of English grammar and allowed him to apply it through conversation.
