I've been teaching math for 7 years and my students have gone on to develop a stronger connection with the subject after their time with me. Within the first few sessions, you'll be able to fully understand the concept you're working on and as time goes on you'll develop skills for problem solving that make all topic easier. I specialize in 5th through 12th grade, and am familiar with several curriculums and textbooks, including Illustrative Math, CME, Pearson EnVision, and Bridges. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!
MUSIC LESSONS: Whether I am playing salsa, solo classical piano, in a jazz ensemble, or a concert band, I am ALWAYS having fun doing what I love, and I want you to have the same experience. After moving to Philadelphia ten years ago to study at Temple University, where I received my Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance, I have had many great opportunities to play all types of music with all types of people. While my passions are in jazz music, composing, and arranging, my varied experience helps me pass on the fundamentals necessary to becoming a great musician while also adapting to your goals, needs, and musical preferences.
*** Lesson Details *** I aim for students to leave each lesson eager to practice and explore, and to come back with questions and stories of their progress. To that end, I work hard to tailor lessons to every
individuals interests and goals. Sometimes this means arranging, transcribing a recording, or even composing something new for my students. Additionally, in each lesson, I balance technical skills, ear training, and music theory to assure that each student walks away a complete musician, all structured around your musical goals.
*** Travel Equipment *** The student must provide their own instrument and assigned method books. I will provide a music stand if necessary, and other useful instructional tools (metronome, tuner, etc.)
*** Home Studio *** I offer lessons in my home located within walking distance of Broad Street in South Philadelphia, near the Tasker-Morris subway stop. I am equipped with a well-playing upright piano and plenty of space for musical activities. There is ample street parking in the area during the afternoon and early evening, and our living room is available to parents while students take their lesson. Students who travel to me for lessons gain all the benefits of performing on a piano, rather than an electric keyboard, and have access to many more resources that I am able to offer from my home, such as recordings and method books.
*** Specialties *** I specialize teaching "late starters" (teens and adults new to piano) fundamentals in music in a fun and exciting way that will have you playing the music you love quickly.
For brass instruments, I am able to help brand new beginners build up their sound and facility through simple exercises that will have them astounded by their progress.
MATH: I use my years of classroom teaching and Master's degree in math education as experience to help guide you to the success you are seeking. I am able to tailor sessions to your specific needs with a few key points in mind:
- helping you catch-up, while also preparing you for what is ahead - balancing practice with conceptual knowledge and application - using research-based techniques to maximize your learning
I am a patient teacher, and well-equipped to explain tough topics in multiple ways. I like to use visuals and objects with simple examples to help my students really understand a concept before we try harder material. Total understanding and confidence is my goal for you.
My personal interests in mathematics are problem solving, puzzles, and combinatorics (think "How many different outfits can I make with all the clothes in my closet?"). If you're looking for an addicting puzzle to try, I suggest KenKen to all my students.
Sessions include homework help, concept review, studying for tests, and honing skills as needed. I have years of tutoring experience and adapt my tutoring style to the student's learning style.
I love to teach and tutor kids and adults of all ages in many different subjects. I pride myself in customizing my lessons to suit each individual's learning style and goals. I try to keep my lessons fun and relaxed while ensuring that we still work hard and learn.
I am a fifth grade teacher and have tutored middle school students in math in the past. Previously, I taught second and third grades. I believe in a strong foundation for students to build on.
I graduated from the University of Idaho in May 2014. I earned my degree in Instrumental Music Education and have been teaching privately for since 2008. My main instrument is violin, and I am qualified to teach viola, and cello. Before moving to Arizona, I taught many violin students through my own private studio and through the University of Idaho Preparatory Division. My students ranged from ages 3 to 50. I have taught private instrumental lessons to grades 2-8 at a private school and I currently work as a full time 5th grade classroom teacher at a Great Hearts school. I continued their intermediate orchestra program and started the beginning orchestra program in the 2015-2016 school year. In the 2016-2017 school year, I piloted a successful beginning instruments club. The majority of my experience is with students age 3 through 9th gr
As for general education, I have completed my certification classes for grades 1-8 and will be submitting the paperwork in the summer of 2019. I have taught as a lead teacher for 5th grade for 3 years, and have experience working in 2nd and 3rd grade classrooms. Additionally, I have tutored students from first grade through middle school in math and reading/grammar/writing.
I primarily teach lessons in the Gilbert area where I teach full time. I also accept lessons in Tempe and Mesa. Students outside of this area are welcome to travel to my house in Tempe. My travel availability is limited, but my home studio availability is far more flexible.
Brianna has helped me progress with my violin rapidly, and she is very patient and kind. Her studio is great and there is a calm, quiet atmosphere there. I would recommend her to anyone that loves the violin and wishes to progress in their learning.

An excellent teacher for my 7year old daughter. Very patient, on time, and engaging. An excellent teacher and mentor.
I have studied advanced math for over a decade and teach it with great success! I can help you master math ranging from prealgebra to calculus III.
For my beginner students, I will help you work through the basic concepts and achieve what you need! For my advanced students, I'll do lessons, practice tests, help with assignments and tests and solidify what you need to know! You let me know what you need and I'll help you best accomplish your goals in math.
The physics majors at my college score higher on math-related tests than the math majors there because of how heavily we have to be familiar with those concepts. Let me help you master math! Send me a message about your needs. Thanks!
Teaching is what I do! I have TAed multiple classes and taught dozens of students. I teach piano and other music concepts, as well as STEM fields in school. I only teach concepts that I'm completely fluent in, however, so you always get the absolute best instruction possible!
I have been playing piano for over 12 years. I retrained from scratch in the Taubman Technique a few years ago and play with ease and effortless musicality! I have taught tons of students how to play the instrument, incorporating these concepts into their playing as well.
I also tutor in STEM topics, including all math, physics, chemistry, and others. I have tutored over 2 dozen students and helped many achieve great results. I have a Master's degree in applied physics, graduated Magna cum Laude, and am fully prepared to help you master your math/science class
Schedule a lesson with me! See yourself improve from someone who knows how people think and understands the topics enough to impart the same onto you!
I have mentored over 50 students in 20+ different subjects. I have experience with grades 4th to 12th, undergraduates, graduate students, and industry professionals.
I guarantee improvement in your understanding of the material starting from our first lesson together. I am committed to my students' success!
My name is Gerardo M. I studied Mechanical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology. I am a STEM-focused tutor that specializes in teaching all levels of math (AP included), science, academic test prep, and college level classes. One of my greatest strengths as a tutor is my ability to communicate with my students. I identify areas that need improvement and figure out where the fundamental disconnect between the material and my student's understanding of it exists. In addition to tutoring, I have 7 years of experience in technology startups in the semiconductors and consumer electronics industries.
My philosophy is to teach my students to learn by intuition and logic rather than memorization. I emphasize teaching the fundamentals to build up a strong foundation of understanding. I believe this approach produces superior l
ong-term learning and enables my students to continue succeeding later in life.
Gerardo definitely knows a lot about Microsoft Excel. He taught me how to use pivot tables, create histograms, produce graphs of data, and he also helped me learn a few keyboard short-cuts to do my work more efficiently. Gerardo is a patient and effective tutor and I highly recommend him!

Gerardo helped me out in Calculus because I was truly struggling. I had a tough professor and I had not taken a math course in a couple of years. He did a great job at tutoring me through webcam and he was really patient with me. I would definitely recommend!

Gerardo helped me prepare for my AP Calculus AB test. I had trouble understanding certain concepts such as related rates and using integration to find volumes. He explained problems very clearly by going step-by-step, and making sure I understood the process every step of the way. I highly recommend Gerardo if you are looking for a math tutor.
I tutor children from K-5. I like the Singapore math method and experience with common core math from K-5. I am a big believer of Kumon style of math that some facts just simply have to have the repeated practice in order to gain fluency which is very similar to learning another language but I make the learning an enjoyable experience.
I love teaching especially language as I am passionate about language. I also speak Chinese and currently learning Spanish. I have been teaching Japanese about 20 years from the age of 2 to adults. I do not just teach but I also try to give you the culture/background of the Japanese language. I believe that helps for many people to master the vocabulary, listening, writing and speaking. I also have worked with companies of understanding about the business culture in Japan.
I believe in facilitating the learning process by understanding each unique student and providing tools for self discovery and mastery. I also cater each educational experience to their interests, culture and individual circumstances.
I hold my bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Master's degree in Mathematics Education. I have also been teaching Math to Middle and High School students for 13 years.
Just a brief background, I started my career at Coca-Cola bottling company in 2003 as an Information Systems Analyst. I quickly discovered a lack of fulfillment in the dynamics of a corporate environment and was extremely fortunate to uncover my deeply rewarding passion for teaching. To this extent, I completed my bachelor’s degree in Mathematics (2003) and my master’s degree in Mathematics Education (2008) at The University of North Carolina Charlotte while I was teaching at Alexander Graham Middle School.
As a middle and, subsequently a high school teacher, I gained the classroom experience from a wide spectrum of ethnic, cultural, religious and other demographic backgrounds from families considered to be across the extreme range of socioeconomic statuses. . My experience also includes work with a variety of cognitive and physical di
sabilities. Among these opportunities came extensive work as an advanced placement instructor where I had the privilege of learning to teach a wide spectrum of learner types.
I feel that it is imperative to understand the unique makeup of a student and the circumstances that surround them outside of the classroom to meet their respective needs inside a classroom. I learned to facilitate an enriching, open and safe environment where differences are respected and celebrated in order to create an educational setting that enhanced my students’ abilities to learn without judging each other and/or themselves.
Through a number of evidence-based educational strategies, including discovery, cooperative, and differentiated learning, I have had the privilege of witnessing my students exceed expected growth across all subsets for over ten years of my teaching career. In fact, I have been recognized with some of the highest performance growth scores in the Forsyth County School system in each year that I taught.
After lowering my teaching load to spend more time rearing my now, 4-year old daughter and after successfully transitioning our lives from North Carolina (November, 2018), I am now enthusiastically seeking the opportunity to reach a bit further and extend my research- based teaching philosophy to a smaller, more individualized group of learners.
"Had our first lesson with Julissa and the experience was painless lol! My daughter was reticent at first but warmed easily. She thought she might not unde
rstan Julissa because of her accent but that was not a problem. All in all a great mathematic experience."
"My daughter, Anna, is attending 6th grade maths. The lessons inspire Anna and she is now more confident and proficient. The lessons are very interesting
and useful. Thank you very much Ashwini teacher!!"
"He was excellent. Could not have had a better tutor."
"Alex is an amazing tutor. Working with him was a great experience. Alex identified and targeted my weaknesses in math; he reinforced whatever basics I was
missing and then worked from there to polish my skills. He even worked on notes for me on his own time.
Alex was everything I needed in a tutor."
"Rod has been tutoring my eighth grader for the past month or so, and all I can say is that I wish we had met Rod years ago. My daughter has always struggl
ed with math, and after several sessions with Rod I feel like the struggle was unnecessary. Even before our first session, Rod took the time to discuss exactly what our concerns and goals were and asked the type of questions that indicate a genuine interest in her success. As a former educator myself, I know that a true teacher is one that invests in the student before and after class, and that is precisely what Rod does. Not only does he assign relevant homework in between sessions, he is diligent about inquiring what her class is working on, ensuring he follows the same curriculum. He not only remembers when she has had a mid term but reaches out between sessions to find out the result. In addition to knowing how to make concepts understandable, he provides praise and encouragement, while still having high expectations and moving her steadily forward, her confidence bolstered. Before her midterm, Rod offered to adjust our schedule so that he could meet with her the night before the test. In one month's time Rod was able to prepare my daughter so effectively for her midterm, that she achieved a full grade higher than her previous assessment. If your child needs not only an academically qualified tutor, but a dedicated one, then Rod is the tutor your family needs."
"I'd like to write a quick testimonial about the tutor I found here on Takelessons. Joshua has worked with my 1st grade brother for about 8 weeks and he ha
s made impressive progress in both his reading and math skills. He has also helped discover my brothers learning condition, dyslexia, but it seems like Joshua has had no problem with that. My brother has enjoyed working with him and is demonstrating new learning, this delights me. Joshua has also developed a fun relationship with my other brothers too. I could not more strongly recommend Joshua to tutor any student."
"Ben is great teacher my daughter really likes lessons with him."
"My teenage son actually said “hey, this guy is cool! I may actually learn something now!”"
