About Mary
Mary is a Tony nominated writer, actress, and teacher whose Broadway credits include Martha Jefferson in "1776" and Grace Farrell in "Annie". She was a starring soloist In Leonard Bernstein's "Mass" at the Kennedy Center and the Metropolitan Opera and toured as featured vocal with Michel LeGand in concerts including Carnegie Hall. Off Broadway credits include her own musical, "Cradle Song". She studied voice with the great Sue Seton and later with opera star and tenor coach at the Metropolitan Opera, Felix Knight. She teaches a combination of both their legendary techniques. As an actor, she studied acting with Sanford Meisner in NYC, the Rheinhardt Seminar in Vienna, Austria and has been teaching and directing beginning, intermediate and professionsl singers and actors for over fifteen years. Former students have appeared on "Thirt
y Rock", Gilmore Girls", "Law and Order" and others. Her goal in working with her students is not only to teach healthy vocal technique, but in keeping with her theatre background, her strong belief that "Every song is a scene or monoglogue" leads her to make sure the student know what they are singing or speaking about, and can do so with a clarity of emotion and dramatic intent.
She has a BA in theatre/voice from the University of Kansas where she serves on the Advisory Board For the Department of Theatre and Film and has an MFA from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at NYU Tisch School of the Arts where she is a guest lecturer. She is a member of AEA, SAG/AFTRA, AGMA and The Dramatists Guild.
"Mary is able to reach not only those students who are already excited about theater but inspire those who have no previous knowledge of it. To watch these young men and women become more and more accomplished is a marvelous thing. She inspired them all."...Mark St. Germain, Obie winning playwright.

In a one hour lesson, we will spend twenty five minutes on vocal exercises designed to teach support and placement. Having performed leads on and Off Broadway, I know that without good technique you can't do eight shows a week, do back to back sets in a nightclub or cabaret or tour as a pop or rock singer. The second half of the lesson is spent on songs. As an acting as well as vocal coach, I focus on dramatics as well as musical interpretation. A singer must be connected to the words as well as the music. I hope to teach you to love singing as much as I do.

Mary is a lively, voluble person with enormous experience particularly in musical theater who enjoys working with students.
Initially and as the student moves along, Mary assesses talent and abilities and then continues to periodically reassess the learning in a manner that never ceases to amaze me. I have been working with Mary for six months and found her evaluations of my strengths and what I need to work on to be spot on every time.
What I esteem most is Mary's technical acumen, the techniques she learned from her teachers and mentors and her experience as a performer. Her keen ear and eye immediately pick out every nuance being sung that needs work. She answers questions about where "to go" in throat, mouth, tongue, torso, etc., demonstrating how to correctly produce the sounds, tones, and supported breathing in question. Voice teachers, of course, are supposed to do this. Mary does this superbly.
If you are seeking a teacher who knows her technique, especially in musical theater, I highly recommend Mary.

Hi Mary,
In my opinion, our session last night wasn't productive. My opinion is, you weren't really interested in teaching me. Out of the 60 minute session. I only did about 3 to 5 minutes of exercises. You spent 55 minutes talking about your past and present students, professional actors you know, show business, acting techniques and your accomplishments. You did talk about about the script that i would read and the emotion behind it, but that lead into more about your students and professional actors you know. it took you 30 minutes in your office to find that script, (which should have been done a head of time) then we went downstairs and another 25 minutes of talking before i could read it to you.

Towards the end when i finally spoke up about so much time being passed and nothing being done. You said you needed to see my personality so you can know where to start with me. That made no sense to me, how are you seeing my personality if you are the one mostly talking about your accomplishments and who you know and what you've done?
Why not pick a point and start there and see what my weak and strong points are? You also asked me the same questions you asked me on the phone, have you ever taken lessons before, why do you want to act, what do you do for work which to me just consumed more time.

What i found surprising and discouraging was when you asked me why would I take acting classes up here when there are some of the best acting schools in the world just an hour away in New York City? I wish you had said that to me over the phone before our meeting, I would reconsider taking lessons from you and just spend the extra money and go down to the city. If i were an instructor i would be grateful for anyone who sacrificed their time and money to come see me, and never ask why they chose me when there is better not that far away. With that said I have decided to cancel my remaining lessons with you please do not bill me any further.

Jason

PS Telling a person of color that they are a weird fit as a real estate agent in Croton N.Y, and would be a better fit in Brooklyn N.Y was discriminatory and offensive to me.

Acting is such a broad term! What are your goals? Do you want to be in films? Do you want to do Shakespeare? Do you want to be in a sit com? Depending upon what your interests are and where you want to go, we will build a plan together. My philosophy on acting techniques is that they are tools to help you, not tests you pass if you're a good actor and fail if you're a bad one. Different techniques work for different people and it is our job to find out what inspires you.

I've worked as a professional actor for many years, performed on Broadway, have my MFA in Performing Arts, and my BA in Arts and Education. I was an assistant director to Tony-winner Sharon Ott and have written and produced my own work. I have experience in both stage and camera acting, which have specific technical differences, but are both a lot of fun once you get used to the medium. Audition technique, preparing monologues, and creating promotional materials are also things I can help with. Anyone who wants to ...

About Rebecca
My approach is both supportive and pragmatic, based on where each individual's skill set is right now and what your specific goals are. I've had the benefit of both formal instruction as well as a decade in the "school of hard knocks." Climbing up the ladder to earn my Equity Card on a Production Contact taught me a lot and I believe gave me a nuanced perspective as a performer.

Over 95% of my career is from attending open calls, including finding representation and my Broadway debut.

I continue to audition for film, television, and theatre, as well as perform in concerts and other venues. I write and produce my own work and am currently signed with Roth and Associates East.

All acting techniques are designed to get you to be as present as possible in your given circumstances and it is important to me that you develop the skills to do so. About Jazz
Jazz has trained with The Lee Strasberg Institute in Los Angeles and New York, Stella Adler in New York, Janet Alhanti, Lesly Kahn, and John Rosenfeld Studios in Los Angeles just to name a few.

Born in Stockton, California, Jazz R. started performing at the age of 22 months. It was at her mother’s dance studio where Jazz developed her onstage skills, studying an array of dance styles from salsa to ballroom and modern to African. Jazz started acting at the age of four, when her mother took her to a workshop in Beverly Hills, and quickly progressed from there. By five years old, R. had booked her first commercial and at the age of 6, she booked both her first pilot and her first movie role, appearing as Angela Basset’s daughter in the cult classic “Waiting to Exhale.”

With Jazz’s career quickly taking off, her family opted to reloca
te in order to accommodate it; her mother giving up her dance studio and her father having his job transferred to Los Angeles. Her big break came at the age of 13, when she won the role of ‘Claire Kyle’ on ABC’s hit sitcom “My Wife and Kids” opposite Damon Wayans and Tisha Campbell.

After departing the show, Jazz returned to her first love: dance. She went from the Boston Ballet, to the school of American Ballet, to a full scholarship at Alvin Ailey, where she danced with the first company. During her stay at Ailey, Jazz won a spot at a ballet company in South Carolina where at 16 years old, she was its youngest soloist. In these years, Jazz kept busy with multiple guest appearances on series, including “Law & Order: SVU” and hosting for Nickelodeon and with her education, graduating two years early in the top 5% of the country’s high school students.

Shortly thereafter, Jazz returned to acting full-force and in addition to making guest appearances on the TNT drama “Perception,” “Secret Life of the American Teenager,” “Monk,” and “Without A Trace,” “iZombie,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.” She has held memorable recurring roles on “The Office” (as Stanley’s daughter), “Everybody Hates Chris,” “Jericho,” TV Land’s “The Soul Man” alongside Cedric the Entertainer and Niecy Nash. And most recently as a series regular playing the rebellious daughter of Tony winner, Anika Noni Rose, on BET’s “The Quad.”

The Spring Play is coming up and you want that main role don't you? Book a spot now.

About Derek
I am Professional Singer, Conductor, Music Teacher, and Church Musician. I graduated from Crown College in St. Bonifacius, MN in 2016 with a B.A. in Vocal Performance and a B.M.E. in Vocal and General Music Education. I have extensive experience with training choirs as well as solo performers both in and out of college.

Voice students can expect to improve week to week in their vocal technique. Every voice is different and needs to be treated with great care and attention. I will work with the students to expand their range and find what works best for THEIR voice. Every voice I have taught has dramatically improved with a few just weeks under my instruction. I can help anyone sing with confidence and grace.

As a music teacher I have experience teaching in a title 1 K-8 school where I taught a variety of ages and skill levels
including students with special needs in our school's cross-categorical classes. From song writing with my middle school students to basic piano skills to choir. I have donet it all in the music classroom.

As a conductor and performing musician I have had the blessing and opportunity to travel all over the world. Some of the highlights of my career have been a 5-week opera program in Siena, Italy. During this time we lived in apartments and were fully immersed in the Italian culture, we performed over 20 times during those 5 weeks. Other musical ventures include various Choir tours throughout the United States and Europe.

My personal passion is Classical and Broadway music but I firmly believe that great basic technique is essential to any and every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!

Victor Santos is an instructor who comes equipped with the tools essential for your success. Patience, dedication, and unending ambition to grow alongside you as you begin your journey as an actor. Victor helped me realize my potential as an actor as early as my freshman year of high school when I became a member of Donna High Schools theatrical club. A freshly hired instructor himself, Victor and I took notes from one another and learned what worked and what did not. Unlike any other teacher that I had known before, Victor also instilled a sense of trust and importance in me. When I was doubtful of my abilities, Victor was always there to lend an open ear to my fears. No matter the hour, he was always eager to continue rehearsal until we both felt satisfied with what was brought to the stage. I always doubted whether or not I'd ever leave my hometown to pursue my dreams of becoming an actor. I was unsure I would ever even be able to afford the expenses of college away from home. Now I am currently a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin. I am a proud member of the prestigious BFA in Acting program here thanks to the efforts of Victor. Words cannot describe the amount of love and compassion he has for his students. I found more than an instructor in him, I found a friend who believed in me and helped me discover what I was really capable of.

Through his patience and ability to engage a student with careful and specific consideration, he is able to get them invested in their lesson and the arts. Through my personal experience he has gone above and beyond as an instructor and because of that, myself and 2 of my fellow classmates are attending the University of Texas at Austin for our BFAs and BAs.
