About Patrick
The Vocal Artist

A rare 'natural' tenor, Patrick's range and versatility are evidenced throughout his work. From Bach Cantatas to Broadway tunes, he's even dared to sing Denver, bringing audiences to tears with his own rendition of Annie's Song. He is a torch song tenor, a la Rondstadt's 'Round Midnight but with the power and passion of Pavarotti.

Like most classically-trained tenors, Patrick can list many of the master works among his repertoire. Starting with Michigan Opera Theatre's Opera-in-Residence program, he performed in Madame Butterfly, Die Fledermaus and The Mikado and others. In Detroit & Windsor Ontario, he performed Bach, Schubert, Handel, Dubois, Mozart and Dvorak. While Patrick's early career focused on classical sacred performances, his real passion is to re-create traditional music in new ways. He recorded his
first two albums with composer Yves Vincent of San Diego, California in genre-stretching new-age/classical style.

After relocating to Tucson, Arizona, as music director for his church, he encouraged a variety of styles and genres to be used by the musicians and choirs of each of five weekend Masses.
Later, in Illinois, he directed another 60 voice parish choir that frequently performed with orchestras from Illinois State & Wesleyan Universities. His voice students in all these locations have been encouraged to explore and develop their own unique expression of their favorite music, while building on a solid foundation of technique, vocal strength and musicianship.

Now that Patrick has relocated one more time to Los Angeles, CA, he is working on a 3rd and 4th CD and once again accepting students. He enjoys the opportunity to expose young & older talent to the power and passion of classical music while also helping them create ways to make it new and exciting by reinterpreting it with their own favorite genres.

Lessons

Patrick's passion for teaching comes from his philosophy of music:
"Music is humanity's most evolved form of expression and communication. Music includes language, our physical senses, and our sense of meaning. With music, ordinary language is ultimately transcended. Words communicate from mind to mind; music communicates to the depth of the soul."

Patrick teaches and encourages young beginners as well as coaching and challenging seasoned professionals. He has even taught a hearing-impaired student to use physical sensation rather than sound to sing on pitch! He focuses on fundamentals of breath, technique and strength to help singers take care of their irreplaceable instrument. (Patrick's own vocal coach, Edward Kingins, continues to perform and move audiences in Detroit well in to his 70s!) Along with helping students build a strong foundation, he nurtures a love and commitment to music by working with students in the style and genre they enjoy most, from rock to pop, jazz or country.

Patrick also has unique insight into the entertainment industry, both in Los Angeles and across the country. Over the years, he has been associated with and close friends with musicians and actors such as John Denver and Richard Hatch as well as sought-after speakers Tom Crum and W Mitchell. Since locating to L.A., he has worked in independent movies with Damian Chapa and David Carradine as an actor and production assistant and coordinator. This experience, coupled with his own success on stage and as a recording artist helps him guide and advise serious young talent to maneuver the crazy environment of Hollywood and avoid the scams and pitfalls of the entertainment industry.

Beginning Lesson Outline

My Basic lesson outline is to determine where we are starting with each student and custom make lessons designed to fit the needs for that student. We will also work on meditation and visualization techniques for performance. The idea is for you to feel the words and sing with passion or so your audience believes your song.

Unlike other instruments, your voice cannot be replaced if it is damaged. I take the time needed through each step of the process so your voice is strengthened and developed properly. It is up to the student to practice and apply what is learned and build a trained, strong instrument that will be useable for your whole life.

You will learn:

Proper breathing techniques and practice.
Properly warming up the voice.
Working on music theory (reading music, etc.)
Ear training and pitch.
Expression, phrasing and performing.
Applying techniques learned to music suitable for student's capabilities.
Learning to have fun and enjoy the music experience.
Confidence and self-esteem

Depending on student's progress, specific lesson components above will be emphasized so that the student's goals will be achieved.
My goal is to prepare you to the best of my ability for you to achieve your dreams.

Awesome!

I needed to practice a solo for my Easter Vigil Psalm performance, and he helped me take care of my instrument, taught me great exercises, and gave me good advice about my career. He is a very nice instructor. He will help you grow as a singer and performer, and you always learn something new everyday with him...I highly recommend him to everyone because he really knows music theory.

"From your mouth to Patrick's ear*...

I was looking for an experienced and patient teacher, one who really listens, and am lucky enough to be able to work with Patrick. He not only hears the singing, but has the flexibility and talent to adapt to the needs and concerns of the singer. Highly recommended. *"From your mouth to G*d's ear," is a Jewish expression meaning, "May what you just said be true!"

If you have a desire to express yourself and have fun and are in Love with Acting and Film and Theatre you have come to the right place. All aspects are covered including how to land a job, an agent and avoid scams in Hollywood.

About James
I worked for Eddie Van Halen for five years in the 1990's in the Beverly Hills area of Los Angeles and was instrumental in providing help with development of the Peavey Wolfgang and Wolfgang Special Guitar by providing feedback on the prototypes Eddie was designing at the time. I learned a lot from Eddie and his brother Alex about music and the music industry. (All you have to do is pay attention! ) I have played in bands from Hollywood to Toronto and back both as a singer songwriter and guitarist. I bring the Musicians Institute way to the table and get things up and running quickly. I help students get it under their fingers fast and get it right the first time.

I believe in sharing the happiness of making music with anyone who loves music and the guitar in particular. I do my very best to get you playing the songs you love in Pop,
Rock, Jazz and Folk Music of your choice. Today's modern new guitars are easy to play and you will enjoy learning Guitar right away. That is how it should be.
When you study there is a basic understanding of Guitar to be learned that allows an ease of use for anyone for years to come. This will help you reach your goal and improve each week. My students learn to practice in a way that feels comfortable and makes sense. This takes all the stress out of learning and gives everyone something to smile about and look forward to each week.

The good feeling of playing along with friends and taking a solo is within every students grasp. I will show you the way there. And with a solid and straightforward approach to the theory as it applies directly to the guitar you will feel confident and unafraid of any music endeavor. We'll cover harmony and fingerboard theory and give you a road map of the guitar neck that makes it a pleasure to play. You learn the basics and much more than you thought possible retaining 90 percent of what you learn!

Having been a student myself I was deeply involved in music since age 12 and played in bands and duos for over 15 years . I can help you to be a well rounded player and performer with a smile, a laugh and a joy for music whether your in a band or a budding solo artist.

*** Lesson Details ***
Most students want to play the Guitar to play their favorite songs and I'm the same way. Music is something we carry with us in our hearts and minds. Students will learn what they wish to learn and work at a pace that is comfortable to them. Whether you are a student, “weekend warrior” or a parent whose child has expressed an interest in Guitar anyone can learn all there is to know about Harmony and Theory for the Guitar and how to play their favorite songs.

We cover theory in an easy and straightforward no nonsense way in the first half of each lesson and then apply it to the song you wish to learn. This creates an atmosphere where you understand and feel at home with the Guitar. You get an understanding right away and because it is immediately fun it allows you to feel comfortable at any level. Music is fun, and songs are the creative expression of what we feel. Combining theory and the freedom to play and sing songs allows us to express ourselves through music.
After 6 months students will have a solid foundation in theory, and a road map of the guitar fretboard enabling them to advance to an intermediate level if they are ready to do so. Students will know enough that music as it relates to the Guitar, which is the world’s most popular instrument in contemporary music, is not a mystery but is a welcome friend. And they will be able to play songs by popular artists and advance at a pace that is satisfying and enjoyable.

I have been involved in several productions, and have extensive acting experience. I am able to help my students study their characters, and realize a wide range of acting choices.

About Benjamin
I have extensively studied vocal performance for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master of Vocal Performance Degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I currently work for a recording studio (Sound Summit Studios in Naperville IL) where I teach voice and help singers record their music in the studio. I have previously taught at The School of Rock in Indianapolis Indiana. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. Several of my students have recored albums and are currently performing all over the U.S.

I have a bachelors degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectat
ions that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.

Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique from day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer'€™s voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.

During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.

Acting is believing! Easy to say, but trust me it's very hard to do. My class is dedicated to helping students understand the basic skills required in order to develop the art of believing. We will focus on the foundation of your movement and open your imagination in order to take the character into you. A lot of acting exercises will help develop your acting skills as well as help you find the motivation for every action you take, even breathing.

In addition to straight acting, I also teach my singers how to "act a song", which is VERY important as a singer. I will teach you how to breakdown the lyric and be present moment-by-moment in your song, as well as how to connect with your audience and draw them in. A beautiful voice is nice, but when you can MOVE your audience, that is what will give you an edge over other performers.

I think Susan would be a better teacher for a beginner student than for an intermediate student. The voice lessons were still helpful, but she was more of a practice coach than a teacher, for an intermediate/advanced singing student. If you need to learn how to breathe and support your singing, I'd recommend her for starting out, but if you are already a trained singer and looking to improve even more, you'd be better off going to a more specialized expert singing teacher. She was a nice lady and I had fun in her lessons though.

Of course the music of an opera or musical has captivated audiences for centuries, but what good is a performance if the acting is mediocre? I help my students understand that while they are to always be musical, a character is as much a part of the music and performance experience. Mozart is notorious for adding characterization to his music, as well as almost many other composers of different genres and musical eras. I find the most enjoyment out of teaching my students how to develop a character using spoken language, recitative, and accompaniment to inform their thoughts and actions while performing. I base much of my approach to acting on the methods and teachings of Sanford Meisner, but some students may also benefit from Stanislavsky or Strasberg approaches. Either way, my students will be able to showcase their acting abilities in a wide range of venues and outlets through my coachings.

About Chy
Welcome to my page! My name is Chy and I've been teaching private voice lessons since 2011. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Voice Performance in 2013 and a Masters degree in Opera Performance in 2015, both from Wichita State University. While fulfilling my Masters, I was one of four Graduate Teaching Assistants in the voice department. Currently, I am a freelance performer/actor, acting coach, and private voice instructor in the Kansas City area. In addition to teaching, I am an active performer with professional experience. I have had the opportunity to teach a variety of singing styles ranging from pop, musical theater, opera, sacred and jazz. I am a firm believer that there is no right or wrong way to sing, but rather efficient and less efficient ways. I am here to help you accomplish your goals whether singing is a hobby, prof

Chy is a terrific singing coach that I would eagerly recommend to anyone who's interested in establishing solid technique. Over the course a dozen or so online lessons, he's brought me from being the subject of good-natured ribbing at karaoke events, to receiving my first compliment (something that I did not think was even theoretically possible). On top of that, he's friendly, a clear communicator, and has extremely reasonable rates.

By way of background, I am a total beginner when it comes to singing, but I've had extensive training in violin and piano (>15 years, including at places such as Meadowmount) where I have been exposed to many different teachers. The best teachers I've had focus on establishing fundamentals regarding posture and mechanics. Consistent with that, Chy has a deep knowledge of how to address those fundamental issues, which (at least in my experience) crop up in beginning and very advanced students alike. For that reason, I would recommend Chy for a student of any ability who is looking for a fresh perspective.

One last thought regarding online lessons: I am somewhat old-school because I used to make the ritualistic weekly commute to my violin and piano instructors. But, much to my delight, I have found that FaceTime is an excellent way to take lessons from Chy and does not appear to impede the instruction at all.

First and foremost, I'd like to hear your objectives for your lessons so I can structure each time to suit your goals.
For advanced/intermediate students, we may be working on monologues or sides you've been sent for an audition (looking for specificity and strong, clear choices) or selecting materials for your audition package for colleges or general auditions.
For beginners, we may work on gaining confidence speaking publicly, diving into characters, and working with text to tell stories.

About Carissa
Hi! I'm Carissa, a working actor and playwright, and would love to work with you on your craft! I grew up heavily immersed in the arts from a young age. I have been a professional actor in the film + television industry for 16 years and counting. My training is mainly based in Meisner, with a degree in Character + Script Analysis from one of the best 2-year conservatories in the nation. I have also completed a Shakespeare Intensive course at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. I have a background in Uta Hagan's methods, Stanislavsky, Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg, so whatever your fancy, I would be able to help in a way specific to your process. I am still a working actor and have years worth of on-set experience as well and could help with any audition prep needed. I love working with actors helping them reach a greater level of understand of themselves + their processes!

About Haley
Hello! As someone who's worked professionally as an actor for over 16 years, I know first-hand how difficult it can be to find a coach you're comfortable with or who understands your particular process. No two actors are alike and what may work for one, may not work for another.

Meisner's technique was the one that has resonated deepest with me. The 2-year conservatory I graduated from taught his methods with a strong emphasis in the original precepts of Stanislavsky. However, before that I spent years studying Lee Strasberg, Uta Hagan, Boleslavsky and Michael Chekhov's methods. You could indeed say I've tried it all. I worked like a dog over a bone while studying and I know I'll never truly be done, which is also unbelievably exciting to me.

While my training is more theater-based, my experience is mainly in film + television. I
started working as a teenager and haven't stopped. My experience has also ranged from big budget movies (The Final Destination) to grittier, independent fare (Sugar Mountain). I have been the lead of every film I've done, save for one, which happened to be directed by my brilliant acting teacher, and I have worked with some of the most respected actors in the industry (Beau Bridges, Aidan Quinn, Jason Momoa, Rainn Wilson to name a few). I have had recurring guest stars on TV shows (Teen Wolf) and one episode arcs on others (The Librarians, Beauty and the Beast, Major Crimes). I also produce, write + direct my own films.

I love acting so much and I love people who are dedicated to becoming the best actors they can be. I have such a reverence for this art form, but recognize the importance of being irreverent while searching for a higher truth in a moment. I truly look forward to working + playing together to help you become a more truthful, confident actor!

Haley is exactly what I need. Experience, easy to talk and answer questions. I have been an instructor for many years in the Music biz, but being a student now with Haley as my instructor seems a great pleasure. I feel I will learn much from her easy going approach. I look forward to many more lessons... Dino Maddalone

I worked with Haley multiple times as I was preparing a role and the insight she offered me really helped take my preparation to the next level. She worked with me until I felt completely confident and the work we did definitely paid off. I got great reviews and my director and other actors even commented on how advanced my work had become.

6 Mistakes You’re Making on Your Acting Resume
Professional actors often can’t help but feel a little powerless when it comes to the process of auditioning and booking jobs.
