As a math and standardized test tutor, I strive to stay results-oriented and based around the student's needs. In past experience as a tutor in college, where I was an undergraduate math major, I would often see shortcuts to problems that to me were simpler than the methods taught in class, but I became acutely aware of the need to approach learning from students' point of view in addition to my own. Putting students first calls me to help them directly with their needs and to meet them where they are.

About Alexander

Alexander Cai Knecht, 29, completed a Doctor of Musical Arts at USC under full scholarship in 2018, where he studied with Brian Chen. He holds a master's degree from Juilliard, where he studied with Masao Kawasaki, and bachelors' degrees from La Sierra University, where he studied with Jason Uyeya

I really appreciated Alexander teaching me violin. He was basically my first instructor and he was always patient and motivating. He accommodated my unique needs as an adult beginner and brought me far in a short time. He was a little challenged to balance teaching with his heavy school load, but I appreciated his willingness to take the time to teach and help others.

Our son thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and he made a point to ask questions when he wasn't clear on instruction. I could tell this music composition was very complex (for his age) and Doug patiently worked through the questions and made really helpful recommendations.

"I can't say enough wonderful things about Daniel. He is immediately responsive, thoughtful, caring, and an absolutely fantastic tutor. In just two weeks he helped raise my 7th grade son's algebra grade from a 36 to a 90! It doesn't get any better than that. We are already excited for our 5th grade son to work with Daniel in the future. Thank you Daniel for becoming a terrific addition to our family!"

"My introverted 8 year old found a small group that she could flourish with under Lisa's tutelage. Lisa introduced topics that kept the kids engaged and excited, and my daughter's writing continued long after the class was over. She was so excited about what she had written, she even shared some of her writing from this class with her regular school class! Lisa presents the material in a level appropriate and fun way, encouraging the students to create without fear of mistake, and with gentle guidance to the correct style or form."

"Aalok Shah's in depth knowledge of admission testing, coupled with his easy demeanor, made all the difference for our son as he prepped for the college process. In addition to advising our son on the proper material to study, Aalok taught him to strategically tackle each section and manage his question answering time accordingly. He set up realistic weekly goals for our son to meet as well as providing many study guides and materials for his reference. We found Aalok’s advice on college planning extremely useful and he was always readily available to answer any questions that we had. Aalok’s calm and encouraging personality eased the stress surrounding standardized testing. This fall, our son will join the Rutgers University inaugural Honors College Class of 2019 with a full tuition, room & board scholarship worth $102,400. We are extremely grateful to Aalok for the integral role he played in making this happen. We cannot recommend Aalok highly enough to any family who is embarking on the college pathway."
