In Piano, we focus on you learning the instrument and how to play it.

Basic reading is important so we do learn to read, and practice reading. (For example we go up to Alfred's Piano Book II; then switch focus)
We also focus on:
Chords
Improvisation
& Playing what you hear/ playing by ear

Actual materials and books I use:

Alfred d'Auberge Book One
Alfred's Basic Piano Library Book Level 2
The Secrets to Playing Piano by Ear, by Jermaine Griggs
+ other hand out materials

*Note: Students are not required to purchase any materials.

Any capable young child who can read, or adult can pick up these materials and learn on their own, but there are great advantages of having a teacher. Such as; bypassing unnecessary information, multi-dementional learning ( hands on, audio, visual), not to mention strategic planning by someone who understands your goals and cares about your progress.

I feel when my students win, I win. And I take personal joy and responsibility ...

About Brandi
My name is Brandi, I have been singing since the age of 3, and writing music, recording and producing since the age of 12. As a teenager I began playing piano and guitar as well. I am a college graduate of Jazz Studies; with a focus in Music Business, and Music Production and Engineer and was a vocal principle at Berklee College of Music; I attended Cuyahoga Community College, and Berklee College of Music. During my years of college I've studied, musical arranging, ear training, breathwork, songwriting, and many private musical lessons and more. Post college I have taken vocal mastery classes in Atlanta, GA.

As a musician/singer I have performed in front of as many as 3,000 people, I recently had a full page feature in a magazine, as well as had FM Radio rotation for a song I wrote, sang and produced, and sold music on iTunes.

*** Lesson Details ***
What a student may expect from this teacher:
Within 3-6 months students shall a have a good grasp on the foundation of their instrument/ craft; have a controlled sound; be playing/ singing what he/she hears; stronger, more defined tone; be able to play through/ sing through at least one song; have expanded range; confidence; and of course tackling personal goals set within the lessons.

My Goal is to facilitate bringing out what greatness already lies within and to assist in that growth, as well as teaching new information and the how to apply. I am not very strict on notation, as far as reading music (Piano and Voice). Lessons with me will more consist of the meatier portion of music how to use the instrument, developing the sound, understanding chord structures, playing/ singing what you hear, techniques and how to put it all together musically. However I will go through musical notation and reading chords, but it will not be a focus. (If you desire to play/ sing classically, I may not be the best teacher for you.)

For MUSIC PRODUCTION: Producing musical tracks and recording artist is the root and the focus. The curriculum is sculpted from LOGIC PRO X, REASON and PRO TOOLS software (subject to change). Students learn how to create what he/she hears and how to format it all together; Students learn how to track and record/ mix in the most professionally used software; Mixing and Mastering shall be touched upon as well.

When it comes to teaching and application of knowledge for each student I am serious about his or her growth; I don't want anyone wasting their money or time, so practice and dedication is necessary.

My teaching style consists of intense training in virtuosic technique while incorporating musicality and expression into the music. Justin showed my 10 year old son how to play the trumpet and did a great job. He was patient, made my son feel comfortable and was able to help him get a better sound by the end of the very first lesson. Jalen does not give high praise easily so we were impressed that he enjoyed learning from him. My mother listened in on some of the lessons and she also said Justin did a great job - friendly personality and great tips on how to play. We highly recommend him.

About André
I'm a motivated and good listener teacher who loves to see his students accomplish their objectives. I have a Masters degree in Jazz from the Manhattan School of Music and a Bachelor in Classical Double Bass from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, Austria. I have also released two albums under my name, composing all the music in both of them.

I have been teaching for 4 years. Right after finishing my Bachelor degree, I started teaching in two music schools in Portugal: Academia de Amadores de Música (one of the most important music schools in Lisbon) and ESTAL. I have also made part of the staff of the Conservatório de Música of Azores, where I traveled monthly to
teach local students. I have taught double bass, music theory and conducted the school's orchestra. Music lessons should be fun, encouraging and full of music that you love. They are an opportunity to learn something new, show your improvement, and receive correction, encouragement and praise. Students and instructors should play together frequently throughout and the time should be balanced with theory, technique and exercises, sight-reading, and performance and seasoned with introductions to a variety of music and styles. I like to encourage students to play because they love to play and to find the music that is an integral part of their soul, then to share that with others through performance. What do you want to do with or gain from your music? We will work toward your goals.

About Jennifer
Music is a huge part of my life and I love sharing that with others. Helping and seeing others discover and develop their talents and find joy in music is something I love.

I come from a musical family and have been singing and playing the piano since before I can remember. Flute (and piccolo) lessons began for me in the 7th grade and I participated in both concert and marching bands from there though college. Now I take regular opportunities to play with various groups of all sizes.

I have taught music (theory, flute, piano and vocal) to students of varying ages and backgrounds both individually and in groups. Working as the woodwind and marching assistant at my alma mater was a thrill and I enjoied seeing and helping students push themselves and reap the rewards of both talent and recognition for their efforts and accomplishments.

While participating in the Prince William Community Band, I had the opportunity to learn to play some percussion instruments and played in that section for a couple years. I have been a music director for several years and enjoy arranging music. It is never to late to start learning if you have the desire and persistence.
