This is a bi-weekly program with classes between 2-5pm on Wed & Fri, that is $25/lesson for two 25 minute sessions a week and $35/lesson for two 30 minute sessions a week. I use several learning enrichment programs and other supplemental programs that are age and grade appropriate as well as morally and Biblically sound. Parents must be willing to purchase curriculum which is a $40 initial additional cost and the child must have access to a tablet or ipad. For tutoring, parent or teacher need to provide current classroom material. I love unlocking the mystery of reading through a variety of lovable characters, general games and computer games in bite sized increments that are comforting and exciting and not threatening, demeaning or discouraging.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a very laid back instructor, though the classes are very well structured.

Usually, we progress with a chosen curriculum according to the student's or parent's vision and initial overview during the 1st few classes. However, all curriculums are supplemented to enhance student performance and comprehension. Our supplemental material is used to go swifter for material that you grasp well and understand, and slower with more repetition for that that you need more practice, without being monotonous. It is also used to provide appropriate but exciting reinforcement of all material to ensure that material is retained.

We are forever updating material and also incorporate games and enhanced activities to keep lessons interesting and refreshing as well!

I also have experience in teaching autistic, ADD, ADHD and those with varying degrees of brain damage.

I am an avid reader myself, and I have experience with students who have dyslexia, ADHD, or for whom English is a second language, as well as students who may just need a little bit of extra practice/help.
I have a good sense of what aspects of reading are difficult for students, and often incorporate music, rhythm, rhyme, drama/acting, and humor, to help struggling readers.

Linda is easily the most patient and welcoming person I've ever worked with. She has incredible knowledge over a vast array of topics and she is eager to share with others. This, in my opinion, is the most important quality of all teachers. Her lessons have proved a great way to build a solid base in my field of interest. as well as providing me with a well rounded and wonderful mentor that I'm sure to rely on for many other lessons in the future- banjo or otherwise!

Elizabeth has been singing since the age of four and had her first solo in church at eleven years old. With over 15 years of private instruction experience, and a Vocal Music Education with a Concentration in Performance degree, Elizabeth is an excellent instructor and performer.
She has directed and performed in off-Broadway musicals such as Grease, Oklahoma, and West Side Story, and has done costume make-up and design for many plays and musicals as well. *** Lesson Details ***
A typical lesson in my studio would begin with a brief question/answer time with the student to learn how their week has gone, and how their music practice is progressing.

For PIANO LESSONS we begin with Technique including scales and dexterity exercises, then we play from the Lesson book and a Recital selection. I typically let the student play through the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to play the piece again. After that we go over the Theory assignments, and do Ear Training exercises. I am comfortable teaching from a variety of different methods courses. The methods course is chosen according to the student's interest. I never require a piano student to continue using books that are not inspiring. There so many methods courses available, that a student may always be able to have methods books they LOVE.

In my SINGING LESSONS we also begin with a recap of the student's week. Then we continue with Warm Up exercises to prepare the student's voice for the lesson. Then we study Sight Singing and Solfege Singing (do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do) to increase the student's listening skills. After that the student sings their selections. Like I do in Piano lessons, I listen to the pieces they have prepared without interruption, then I call attention to corrections that need to be made, I demonstrate the correction, and then ask the student to sing the piece again. I am comfortable teaching many styles of vocal music including classical, Broadway, pop, rock, and Christian.

For MUSIC THEORY lessons, the study material is chosen according to the student's interest and age. Topics include notation, chord structure, chord progression, melodic structure, and harmony. I also incorporate Music Listening in the Music Theory lesson in order to learn from the masters in many styles of music. My Music Theory students will also have the opportunity to develop composition and songwriting skills if they desire.

My teaching style is structured and friendly, keeping the student's goals and interests at the forefront. I enjoy motivating students to reach their highest potential.
After 3 to 6 months in my studio my students will see improvement in their musical technique, ear training, music reading, notation, and knowledge. They will be preparing recital pieces for an upcoming performance. I provide two recital opportunities a year: in December, and in May. Most importantly, the student's love and appreciation of music will be growing.

PIANO lessons in Living Room: piano near front entryway, couch, loveseat, over-sized chair, dining room table, open space, end table with chair, parents may sit in on lesson.

Bonnie started piano at age 4, clarinet by third grade, and oboe in the 8th grade. In High School, she played oboe, bagpipes, and saxophone in the jazz band winning the Best Jazz Soloist Award. She also won the Young Artist Competition and played with the Tampa Symphony. While attending USF, she continued to perform with the Tampa Symphony and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then attended the University of Michigan and received her Master of Music degree and performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and many chamber groups in the area.

In 2003, she created the Pop Oboe series with 4 CDs, a member of the Recording Academy and had her cds on the Grammy Nomination list.

Bonnie did a great job with my daughter. She had just taken up the oboe during the school year and we wanted to keep up her skills during the summer. Bonnie was great helping my daughter learn additional oboe techniques that will help her when she returns to school. I was very impressed with Takelessons and the convenience of doing lessons in our own home. Bonnie was very flexible with our summer schedule too.

Hi! My name is Julia A. I have been tutoring students of all ages and skill levels at learning centers, colleges, libraries and schools since 2008.

My instruction includes those with a gap in going back to school/university. I start with an assessment based on what the student has trouble with or remembers last covering in school, and prepare material going from there.

As a result, my students all have improved grades without any need for cramming before tests, and I encourage a stress-free and easygoing learning environment.

Julia creates her own curriculum which is better than anything my daughters receive in their schools.
I see marked improvements in their grades for this past year, and my eldest is actually skipping fourth grade as a result of lessons. I am astounded as to my girls' progress, and greatly appreciative of our tutor's expertise.
Her patient, methodical approach to teaching is why I see us remaining with her for all of our educational instruction. She has already taught arithmetic to my youngest (3rd grade), and algebra to my eldest (starting 5th this sept!), and is proceeding with more advanced math with no issue whatsoever. I cannot recommend her enough.

I'm in a fast paced trig course at my uni, and we've covered things I never did in high school. I did 5 lessons over skype with Julia, and know I've found a keeper. She sends stuff to practice on in advance and has me work with her like I would with my professor. She comes up with practice based on my weakest areas and never shortens time. I don't even have to ask for review material because she assigns hw to work on, and basically, I'm a master at graphing now.

Music, and teaching have always been a big passion in my life. The ability to take knowledge of a subject that you have, and show, share, and shape someone and pass on that knowledge to them. It is an amazing feeling. I am a passionate, and caring instructor. My teaching style is encouraging, motivating, and educational. I fully believe that you can do anything you set your mind to, and I use that by showing my students that I believe in them.

I use a curriculum that was taught to me, and has been used in schools and universities. This curriculum fits all age groups and skill levels. Starting with Rock, moving to Funk, ending with Jazz.
When drumming playing with music, learning improvisation, and playing by ear is important. I also focus on this, having students learn their favorite songs, and learn to play with new music as well. This keeps students interested, and adds a fun personal element to their lessons. I also have implemented use of a teaching app, so while practicing if students have a question they can ask me right then so to not forget, and I can give feedback. My son is 10 years old and has zero experience with music but wanted to give drumming a try. Zaky was perfect- encouraging, fun, and friendly. Zaky is a clear teacher who stealthily sneaks in terms and concepts while the kids are hands on. I'd absolutely recommend him for any age student!

Though I have an IT background, I have worked in the educational arena as a technical writer for the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE).

ETS develops and administers the SAT, the Advance Placement Program, and other programs on behalf of the College Board. While at ETS, I was instrumental in writing Business Requirements for the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) Mobile Application listening and reading tests. These tests set the standard for assessing English-language listening and reading skills needed in the workplace.

The NJDOE initiated the New Jersey No Child Left Behind (NJNCLB) initiative. This program significantly changed the schools’ role in K-12 education by focusing on success as measured by student achievement of all students including English-languag
e learners, students in special education, and poor and minority children, whose achievement, on average, trails their peers. I was instrumental in writing Business Requirements and standards for the NJNCLB Program.
