Private Sewing Teacher

I started sewing at age 8 (thanks mom!)

I have a degree in technical theatre with an emphasis in costume design and technology. I design costumes for community theatres, opera companies and drag queens.

I helped teach sewing and costuming during my degrees. I believe in starting beginners with familiarizing themselves with their machines and how to read patterns.

I would love to share my years of experience designing, sewing and crafting with you!

About Jessica

Music and the arts have been a large part of my life since I was a child.

I have performed in numerous operas, musicals and plays. Favorite roles include the Witch in Into the Woods, Agathe in Der Freischutz, the Countess in Marriage of Figaro, and Fastrada in Pippin.

I have a degrees in Opera Directing, Vocal Performance and Theatre Arts. I started teaching acting classes in 2001, and have coached voice since 2010. I have studied voice with James Gardner, former head of opera at Julliard School of Music, Matthew Oglesby, vocal area coordinator for the WTAMU School of Music, and Darlene Wiley, head of voice department at Butler School of Music, UT and William Lewis, dramatic tenor with 35 years experience singing at the Metropolitan Opera.

I direct operas, design costumes, teach whenever and whatever I can, and love spending

time with my cat.

About Chef Stevie

Hi! I'm Chef Stevie. I’m a graduate of Walnut Hill College, one of Philadelphia's oldest Culinary arts schools. I loved my classes because every day was a new opportunity to see, touch and learn something new.

I've loved cooking for others and teaching the art of cooking is one of my passions. Even after 20 years, I still get excited about exploring different cuisines. My classes are fun and informative. My students tell me that my zest for cooking is contagious and that they find themselves being more creative in other aspects of their life. I also enjoy growing my own food, raising chickens and enjoying nature.

I've taught community cooking demos, groups and individual classes. I also enjoy cooking for small intimate gatherings. I’ve even had the pleasure of learning Molecular Gastronomy cooking. Check out Wikipedia if you are i

nterested in learning more about Molecular Cuisine.

GROUP classes are available as well as some limited travel. Let’s get cooking! Cheers

Advanced-Make dress, skirt, pants or blouse with lining.

Note: Although students learn at different rates, the above results are expected, if taking lessons 2hours a week, for 5weeks for all levels.

About Lily

I am a fashion designer/instructor and former social worker. I am very patient with students and passionate about sewing. I get excited watching students build skills gradually from basic through advanced level techniques.
Also, I am one of the few teachers in the country who teaches the exclusive "Freehand" sewing, which is sewing without ready-made (commercial) pattern, like our grandparents did.
As a social worker, I taught participants in a homeless shelter, how to make various items geared towards independent living. For 9years now, I've been teaching at a fabric store in East Harlem where patrons sign up for group sewing lessons as well as private lessons. I teach garment construction, alterations, home decor, and various sewing projects.

We couldn't have imagined a more excellent instructor for our daughter. Lily has such a kind and pleasant demeanor. She is intelligent, patient, and is literally the best teacher that I have seen work with my daughter.

I give Lily my highest recommendation and always look forward to her coming and teaching my daughter. The relationship that they have formed is invaluable, beyond sewing. We are so appreciative and grateful to her.

Vena is a consummate professional. My son wanted to learn some basic sewing skills, as well as learn how to make clothes and accessories. In the first 1.5 hour lesson at our home, he completed a simple zipper bag. Over the course of six lessons he made a messenger bag, dress shirt and started on pants - which he finished while we were on vacation. Vena is an expert and also knows how to tailor her lessons to her individual students work style, needs and goals. I give her my highest recommendation. My son will be working with her again to learn how to design his own creations. Five stars all the way.

I think Vena is wonderful. She is patient, warm, supportive and knowledgeable. She can help you complete specific projects (make a dress or a stuffed animal), help you become a better sewer or teach you the art of pattern making. Also, I should mention, she work professionally in the fashion industry and give lots of great insight into how garments are designed. Love Her!

My expertise in sewing always inspires creativity and passion within students, and the ease with which i guide them to explore their own creativity bring fun to the lessons. Having over 25 years of custom couture tailoring and teaching has given me a vast experience in order for me to equip any student with the requisite knowledge needed to tackle any sewing project.

About Kodjo

Most people simply call me Joe. I have a bachelors in Fine Art, an MBA and been making clothes for my clients for over 25 years. I taught many people sewing and they've gone ahead to tackle various projects on their own to their own disbelief. Creativity comes to me naturally and with a background in figure drawing and painting, my knowledge of anatomy of the human figure helps a lot in translating it into designs for all figure types and sizes. I have handled many interior design projects also, so all these experiences equip me with immense knowledge to transfer to those who want to learn all about sewing, whether as a beginner, an intermediary or advanced student.

I have always had a passion for Fashion. Born in Miami and raised in Texas, this Fashionista began her sewing journey at the age of twelve receiving lessons and sewing tips from my mother. From there I started making my own clothing and began wearing my fashions to school which led t me sewing and designing clothing for my fellow school mates as well. Word began to travel that there was a young new designer in the community, so my clientele and skill level began to grow. In 2004 I officially incorporated Random Star Couture a custom clothing brand which caters to Men, Women, Children, and Home Decor. As years progressed I became a professional Sewing Instructor for JoAnn Fabrics & Crafts along with teaching private clients. I also branched out into wardrobe styling and costuming. Which gave me even more access in the Fashion industry allowing me the opportunities to have worked with such clients/ companies as Roca Wear (Clothing Brand), Aeropostle, Lil' Wayne (Six Foot Seven Foot- ...
