About Lily Q.
I am a fashion designer/instructor and former social worker. I am very patient with students and passionate about sewing. I get excited watching students build skills gradually from basic through advanced level techniques.
Also, I am one of the few teachers in the country who teaches the exclusive "Freehand" sewing, which is sewing without ready-made (commercial) pattern, like our grandparents did.
As a social worker, I taught participants in a homeless shelter, how to make various items geared towards independent living. For 9years now, I've been teaching at a fabric store in East Harlem where patrons sign up for group sewing lessons as well as private lessons. I teach garment construction, alterations, home decor, and various sewing projects.

I am very happy I did this. Now I feel confident. Lily is very good and very patient. I will take all of her classes, as long as I can afford them.

Lily is very kind and patient. She can troubleshoot for me, even virtually. I thought I knew the basics of sewing but she’s really given me a better foundation of knowledge. Can’t wait to take more classes!

Lily was very patient and took time to explain everything to me. She made sure to answer all the questions I had. Will definitely book another session.

Lily is an incredible teacher! I went from barely knowing how to thread a bobbin to completing my first lined jacket in a little over 4 months! Lily is patient, kind, and has great attention to detail and teaching style. Lily will introduce you to everything from basics to complex techniques with ease.

Lilly is a excellent teacher. She takes her time showing you the stitches and how to thread your machine. She encourages you to keep trying because you will learn something that you can use for a lifetimes. And most importantly once you make your first garment you will want to continue to make more of your outfits.

Lily is an excellent sewing teacher and is always available with helpful suggestions. Her classes build confidence in beginning sewers in a pleasant atmosphere. I learned a lot about sewing with her.

Very knowledgeable, friendly and patient. She took me from complete beginner to confidently stitching before the end of my first lesson!

Miss Lily helped me get started sewing and fix my sewing machine. It was a very helpful session and I'm so excited to get started working

My daughter loved working with Lily. She is really excited to have Lily continue teaching her. We were wondering how virtual lessons would go but Lily made it so easy. My daughter is 11 and had to do her first lesson without a parent to help as we were both working. She did it all without getting frustrated. Thank you Lily!!

Fantastic Instrutor. I’m a beginner at sewing she made the class very enjoyable. After the first class I’m comfortable using the sewing machine, and I can’t wait for the next lessens.

Very patient and VERY knowledgeable; looking forward to my next lesson.

Lily is wonderful. She is patient, knowledgable, professional, and knows how to use technology better than most people I know. She is always giving me tips to use that any manual doesn't mention. She has a way of making everyone feel comfortable around her - like my husband. Virtual learning does work well if the right person is running the show and giving the lessons. Lily is that person for me!

Lily, by far and away has exceeded mine and my wife's expectations. She was extremely patient and knowledgeable. We are in the process of opening a embroidery and screen printing store and Lily was very helpful with eliminating some of the road blocks we have faced over last month. It was only an hour but I felt that we accomplished a lot in that 60 minutes. My wife has accomplished a bunch of shirts in the one day since our lesson. With eliminating some of the road blocks she had encountered, she was able to finish a project without frustration and wasting hours. We look forward to next weeks lesson. I rarely give reviews and I am not doing this to be nice. I truly want to give LILY the Props she deserves. She immediately makes you feel very comfortable and never makes you feel dumb. We highly recommend her services.

I have the pleasure of working with Lily. My sewing skills have grown exponentially! She is so patient and flexible. I’ve been able to make more professional looking garments with the skills that I have learned from Lily.

Like many, I found a new craft during the Covid Shut Down: machine embroidery. I’m a seamstress, but embroidery presented a new learning curve that required expert assistance... & then I found Lily!!! Personable, patient, and so very knowledgeable! I look forward to my weekly classes and learning a new skill - stitching “like a BOSS” - because of my new teacher Thank you Lily!

very informative and easy! will be scheduling next week!

Lilly has a lot of patience and extremely knowledgeable and able to answer all my questions.
I signed up for Lily's beginners course-I literally didn't know a thing about sewing. By the end of the 1st lesson, I know how to thread the machine and sew a bunch of different stitches. Excited for the remaining lessons!

Lily is great! My mother really enjoyed her company and is looking forward to her next session. Thank you Lily!

Lily is a great instructor. She knows her craft well. She is patient, friendly and has a great smile and laugh that helps makes her student comfortable and at ease thus making learning fun. Lily has the knowledge to help anyone with sewing, embroidery, machine embroidery and more. I highly recommend Lily as an instructor for whatever area you are trying to learn from her huge arsenal of expert techniques.
Lily is helping me to become proficient using my embroidery machine. She immediately taught me a few tricks to getting my machine to do what it is suppose to do without much effort. She has in one lesson given me tons of information and help to get my embroidery hobby started properly. It's awesome to have one on one assistance right in my home so I don't have to take my heavy machine anywhere.
I'm disabled and having a service like this one available is invaluable. I have to keep my mind working and busy, and this helps me tremendously. Thank you LILY and TakeLessons for helping me to fulfill my goals!

I enjoyed the session very much. The teacher was thorough and organize. The lesson was presented clearly and was easy to understand. I learned a lot in just 2 hours; looking forward to the next class

We couldn't have imagined a more excellent instructor for our daughter. Lily has such a kind and pleasant demeanor. She is intelligent, patient, and is literally the best teacher that I have seen work with my daughter.
I give Lily my highest recommendation and always look forward to her coming and teaching my daughter. The relationship that they have formed is invaluable, beyond sewing. We are so appreciative and grateful to her.
