A classical education makes everything so much easier. There are basic classical rhetorical devices that are easy to use once you understand them and make acting so much more fun and simple. It is 'playing' after all and with these techniques that are just ages old and so ingrained in humanity and nature you will be delighted and challenged.

About Gina
As of May 10th, I am in New York City. I will be accepting new students for the summer months either in NYC or online.

I am studying Music in The Mills College Music Department and Center for Contemporary Music; in pursuit of my second MFA, specializing in Improvisation. My main instrument is Voice; I also study piano. That will add to my BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School, an MFA in Dance and my other fancy pants pedigrees!! I teach Music Improvisation as well as many other aspects of music and the list of subjects below.

I graduated from Juilliard in dance and pursued modern dance and all sorts of theatre, dance/theater, music/theater, experimental, modern and classical theater, post modern and modern dance. *** Lesson Details ***
With beginning students I am very laid back and patient and believe strongly that in the play of games and experiments technique will develop and manifest. As the student becomes more advanced I become more demanding as do the materials. As an acting teacher I have an advanced capacity to take students along all the way to professional and beyond. I am a member of the Actors Studio, the performing unions and studied since childhood at ACT and then all over the world including The National in London.
In Singing and Piano I can be valuable to the beginning level and will want to send them to another teacher as they progress beyond my ability.
In dance I have a wide knowledge and can teach several forms as well as history and materials. In Juilliard I specialized in historical dance of the French Court which is also known as pre-ballet. At present I am studying Tango and other ballroom forms and can teach the beginning levels as well as help choreograph for weddings or events. Of course I can also teach Ballet and many forms of Modern Dance.I adore teaching dance composition. To help a dance student make dances is very very fulfilling to me. I work with other media to inspire, using painting and painters, poetry, sound and dream, ideas and desires. All to contribute in making a dance.
In Visual Arts I can teach Abstract Painting, Installation and Performance Art. I have taught children and adults and have a way of bringing the body's expression into the act of making visual art that I and my students find very successful.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have supplies and space. Visual Art students need to contribute to materials by finding or purchasing whatever they like and adding to the mix. My students are welcome to use what I have here and I am always adding materials. Many people throw away materials that are perfectly good for art making so keep your eyes open and you'll find all kinds of good things. Visual Art students need to book a 2 hour minimum and I will lower the price if you just let me know you need it.

*** Specialties ***
In dance I teach classical ballet principles for beginners or those who are returning and want to work carefully and privately. I teach from the tradition of Alfredo Corvino's principles of relationship to organic forms and structures for sound development. I studied with Mr Corvino for years and continue to study with Ernesta Corvino.
For acting I teach a combination of classical acting technique with American sense memory and relaxation skills. I am well versed in the teachings of Lee Strasberg and then spent time in London to 'fill in the cracks' of my training with analytical skills as well as the various european influences that the Royal National embrace.
I teach creative discovery in combination with classical devices so the student can discover their own artistry while learning actual classical devices for accomplishing specific goals.

Gina is great! My 14 year old daughter loved her. She helped her work on several techniques and scenes in preparation for an audition. I would definitely recommend her for various levels of experience.
She loves the craft and it shows in her teaching. Shes tough but so loving and enthusiastic.

I have had the opportunity to learn acting with Gina and it has been great so far. When I signed up for the lessons, I signed up with Gina because of her credentials as I never had an encounter with her. From my first class itself she has taught me a lot about acting specially stage acting and that too with great enthusiasm. I now feel like pursuing it further. She is quite knowledgeable specially in her field and every moment that you are in the class with her, you are learning something new. I would highly recommend her, doesn't matter if you are just getting into the field or trying to set your advanced level stage, her talents will teach you something new that would take you to the next level. I foster a safe, relaxed and engaging environment to explore truthful human behavior on stage.

The objective is 'the truth' to which end there is no one technique. Actors are encouraged to find their own tools and to draw from elements of different practices to discover a technique that works best for them as individuals.

I was always afraid I couldn't learn Shakespeare, but Nicholas explained the intent on the word, the intent on the line. Soon, I was so caught up in the meaning of the lines and the story I was telling in that moment that I was able to engage in the role, smoothly, without worrying that I was performing Shakespeare. He broke it down so I could understand it, and then feel confident doing it. Highly recommend!

I took a five-session Beginning Voice Acting class with Corliss in a professional recording studio. The critiques she gave me after every recording I made helped me to speak more clearly, and to increase the energy I was able to put into my recorded presentations. Without the critiques of my recordings, I would not have been able to improve my speaking ability. During the class, she made sure everyone in the class was made to feel welcome, and important. When I take the next level of the Voice Acting class series, I will be looking forward her critiques of my recorded presentations.

I recently took lessons with Corliss and couldn’t have been happier! From the minute I walked in the door for the first lesson, Corliss was energetic and enthusiastic. James Wagner is actually the best teacher of creative work I've ever had in any field, and as a writer/ filmmaker/ musician dude, I have had a lot! His teaching is rigorous, passionate, and results-driven, while remaining flexible and sensitive at the same time. His knowledge of acting and theatre theory is endless. He is always trying to expand the possibilities in his classes, bringing in guest speakers, and facilitating unexpected exercises. He is also an inspiring, warm hearted person. Kate and I started a theatre company with actors we all met in his classes, so that should tell you something. I honestly would not be the same person had I not encountered his generous vision of acting and theatre. You cannot go wrong by having him as a coach or teacher.

I met James when I took his class at Berkeley Rep (Eugene O'neill scene studies). I immediately knew he was the kind of Acting coach I'd want to train me, the level of professionalism and high standards is invaluable. During a short trip to LA, I met with James for a 3 hours coaching in which we created a 3 year plan to go from Student actor to working actor this was followed up with some online (Skype) sessions. Next I took another scene study with James at Berkeley Rep in which we workshopped Contemporary plays, James in a kind, professional way was able to push me to the level he knew and expected his students to be. And recently I took an Actor's retreat end of last year, again I left the retreat so inspired and motivated. I can tell you now that I have been in a few Theatre productions, I have and continue to meet the goals we set out for me sooner than what we had mapped out. I couldn't have done it without James vast knowledge of acting and motivation. I highly recommend you study with James!

Hello! As someone who's worked professionally as an actor for over 16 years, I know first-hand how difficult it can be to find a coach you're comfortable with or who understands your particular process. No two actors are alike and what may work for one, may not work for another.

Meisner's technique was the one that has resonated deepest with me. The 2-year conservatory I graduated from taught his methods with a strong emphasis in the original precepts of Stanislavsky (http://www.baronbrown.com, if you're curious). However, before that I spent years studying Lee Strasberg, Uta Hagan, Boleslavsky and Michael Chekhov's methods. You could indeed say I've tried it all. I worked like a dog over a bone while studying and I know I'll never truly be done, which is also unbelievably exciting to me.

While my training is more theater-based, my ex
perience is mainly in film + television. I started working as a teenager and haven't stopped. My experience has also ranged from big budget movies (The Final Destination) to grittier, independent fare (Sugar Mountain). I have been the lead of every film I've done, save for one, which happened to be directed by my brilliant acting teacher, and I have worked with some of the most respected actors in the industry (Beau Bridges, Aidan Quinn, Jason Momoa, Rainn Wilson to name a few). I have had recurring guest stars on TV shows (Teen Wolf) and one episode arcs on others (The Librarians, Beauty and the Beast, Major Crimes). I also produce, write + direct my own films.

Cathy was my teacher, director, and mentor for the three years I attended Saint Michael's College. She was the first professor I met on campus and the one I have always remained in touch with. She is the type of person who reached out to catch up with me while I lived in London and she was visiting with her husband. Her devotion to her students and her hope for their success are unwavering.

Three words to describe Cathy as an acting teacher: HONEST, CONCISE, and ENCOURAGING.

HONEST: Cathy does not sugarcoat. She tells you how she sees it. This is how she builds trust with her actors so that they can stop sabotaging themselves through internalizing and overanalyzing themselves. She creates a professional relationship with you to feel confident in making strong, bold choices and assessing the results after. This has made my experiences both in auditions and rehearsals extremely successful.

CONCISE: People in the theatre do a lot of talking. Cathy gets to the point both in how she speaks to her actors and how she directs. Acting is an art form but at the professional level there are prescriptive elements required of an actor so that text can be analyzed properly, choices can be appropriately made, and through it all there is always truth both in action and word. Cathy gets her actors to that point without grandiose tangents that, frankly, get the actor no where.

ENCOURAGING: Cathy wants everyone to succeed. She wants the story to be told truthfully. She expects a great deal from her students and in return guides you with empathy and patience so that you will be able to look back at your work and be equally as proud of yourself as she is of you.

I owe a great deal to Cathy. I have worked regionally and Off-Broadway since graduating and that has a lot to do with the tools she has given me. She helped me build a very strong artistic foundation and I continue to hone my skills because, as she always reminds her students, there is always more work that can be done.

As an acting teacher/coach, I strive to guide each young actor through the ongoing, evolving, lifelong process of awareness, curiosity, exploration, and discovery that leads to producing honest work. Using the Meisner Technique, I instill young actors with confidence in their own ability to live truthfully under imaginary circumstances. Small group class sizes and private lessons provide actors with individualized mentorship, while also preparing them to work in a professional environment and promote longevity in their careers.

Matt holds a Texas Teaching Certificate in Theatre Arts (which he taught for 13 years of his 18 year career in public education), and directed over 50 stage productions, including: Sweeney Todd, James and The Giant Peach, The Who's Tommy, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Noises Off, Monty Python's Spamalot, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind, The Hobbit, and The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe (RCP Best Director). He was named Outstanding University Interscholastic League Sponsor in 2016, led the UIL One Act Play The Insanity of Mary Girard to Area Tournament in 2014, and directed the 2016 Dallas Summer Musicals High School Musical Theatre Awards Best Costume Design winning production of The Addams Family.

Professionally, he appeared in the feature film When The Bough Breaks (opposite Morris Chestnut), worke
d in the independent film projects County Line and The Beat Hotel, and appeared in regional commercials for Taco Bueno, The Home Depot, and Zaxby’s. On stage, he appeared as St. Jimmy in the Regional Premiere of Green Day's American Idiot, as Bill Clinton/Howard Stern/Vladimir Putin in the original cast of the musical Citizen Drumpf (The Column Awards Best Musical Nominee 2017), Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd, Dr. Parker in Bat Boy, and Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream (RCP Best Actor).

He is the owner/instructor at The Mitchell Actor Studio, where he teaches Meisner technique to young actors ages 7-18. He continues to study Meisner technique under Michele Condrey at REACT Studios and is SAG-AFTRA Eligible. He is represented by The Campbell Agency of Dallas, Texas.
