It's AUGUST of 2016!!!
I've just earned an MFA in Dance and Theater Studies from Mills College in Oakland, California. In 2 weeks, I begin a 2 year program in The Mills College Music Department and Center for Contemporary Music; in pursuit of my second MFA, this one in Music, specializing in Improvisation, instrument, Voice. That will add to my BFA in Dance from The Juilliard School, my MFA in Dance from MIlls and my other fancy pants pedigrees!! .
I graduated from Juilliard in dance and pursued modern dance and all sorts of theatre, dance/theater, music/theater, experimental, modern and classical theater, post modern and modern dance. I have taught children and grown ups for many years. I have a strong performing career and love the way teaching keeps me in a giving and learning place.
*** Lesson Details ***
With beginning students I am very laid back and patient and believe strongly that in the play of games and experiments technique will develop and manifest. As the student becomes more advanced I become more demanding as do the materials. As an acting teacher I have an advanced capacity to take students along all the way to professional and beyond. I am a member of the Actors Studio, the performing unions and studied since childhood at ACT and then all over the world including The National in London.
In Singing and Piano I can be valuable to the beginning level and will want to send them to another teacher as they progress beyond my ability.
In dance I have a wide knowledge and can teach several forms as well as history and materials. In Juilliard I specialized in historical dance of the French Court which is also known as pre-ballet. At present I am studying Tango and other ballroom forms and can teach the beginning levels as well as help choreograph for weddings or events. Of course I can also teach Ballet and many forms of Modern Dance.I adore teaching dance composition. To help a dance student make dances is very very fulfilling to me. I work with other media to inspire, using painting and painters, poetry, sound and dream, ideas and desires. All to contribute in making a dance.
In Visual Arts I can teach Abstract Painting, Installation and Performance Art. I have taught children and adults and have a way of bringing the body's expression into the act of making visual art that I and my students find very successful.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have supplies and space. Visual Art students need to contribute to materials by finding or purchasing whatever they like and adding to the mix. My students are welcome to use what I have here and I am always adding materials. Many people throw away materials that are perfectly good for art making so keep your eyes open and you'll find all kinds of good things. Visual Art students need to book a 2 hour minimum and I will lower the price if you just let me know you need it.

In dance I teach classical ballet principles for beginners or those who are returning and want to work carefully and privately. I teach from the tradition of Alfredo Corvino's principles of relationship to organic forms and structures for sound development. I studied with Mr Corvino for years and continue to study with Ernesta Corvino.
For acting I teach a combination of classical acting technique with American sense memory and relaxation skills. I am well versed in the teachings of Lee Strasberg and then spent time in London to 'fill in the cracks' of my training with analytical skills as well as the various european influences that the Royal National embrace.
I teach creative discovery in combination with classical devices so the student can discover their own artistry while learning actual classical devices for accomplishing specific goals.
This school is such a gem. I taught there for a few years before returning to graduate school. I taught children theater arts and acting skills. I also taught an adult acting class.
I taught several levels of age groups from 3-5 to 6-9 and then more middle school as a teacher sent to public and private schools in the Brooklyn area. I taught mostly a Carl Orff system combined with a curriculum the Conservatory used.

August 8th, 2016, attended my second and what will be an annual, Teachers Seminar on The Corvino Approach to ballet. Alfredo Corvino taught at Juilliard (and was my teacher). His daughters Andra and Ernesta continue that legacy. Ernesta Corvino is my mentor as I learn more and more, The Corvino Approach.
From 1992 -1993, I studied various modalities of health sciences and bodywork from The Swedish Institute in NYC. I specialized in Swedish Massage, in Zero-Balancing and in other modalities for bodywork. I also earned a State License in Massage from New York State in 1993. I no longer work as a therapist, choosing instead to focus on fine art and performing arts. I specialized in bodywork for pregnant women and spent a great amount of time in Hospitals and Birthing centers attending births. It was a most rewarding experience.
The Actors Studio was formed in 1947 in New York City to provide a place where professional actors could work together between jobs, or during long runs to continue to develop their craft and to experiment with new forms in creative theatre work. In 1967 the Actors Studio opened its only branch in West Hollywood, California. Membership provides a place for theatre artists to advance their craft and talents. For more than sixty years The Actors Studio has lived a very rich artistic existence and will endure as long as talent needs a home.
