I am a director, teaching artist, producer, and sometimes actor who has lived and worked in Philadelphia for the past 15 years. I'm the Co-Artistic Director and founding member of ReVamp Collective, a Philadelphia based feminist-centric theatre company. I've taught with Walnut Street Theatre, Lantern Theater Company, Theatre Horizon, Delaware Theatre Company, and Philadelphia Theatre Company. I received her BA in Theatre from Temple University with a minor in Art History.

I've not only been an actor, but a director/producer, as someone who has been on both sides of the table I know what directors, casting directors and producers are looking for as well as knowing what it is like to audition as an actor.

Outside of acting I've worked for various sectors as an administrative assistant and recruiter for a medical device consulting firm
and as an administrative assitant for an engineering consulting firm. I have also worked for multiple restaurants and catering companies as a server, bartender, and management, and has been a freelance wedding coordinator.

Everyone is different which means that everyone’s career will take a different path. That is why I not only offers actor coaching, but career coaching; resume/headshot review, where to submit, protocol before and after the audition, how to self-produce your own work, and anything else you may need or want to know.

I love working with students and finding what works for each individual. Actor training is amazing for public speaking, critical thinking and problem solving. I love watching my students grow and expand.

My basic approach to classical work focuses primarily on the connection of the breath with the feeling on the word.

This is the foundation on which you can then build. From the ‘words’ to the ‘thoughts’ to entire ‘passages’ of text, as you work and explore, the richness of the playwright’s words comes to life. Your own unique emotional life is allowed to come through the text and you are able to fully embody the role.

About Nicholas
I have been an actor for more the 35 years having worked Off-Broadway and Regionally.

I've taught acting for 18 years privately as well as at Brooklyn College, St Frances College, Marymount Manhattan College, and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.

"Nicholas is patient, insightful, friendly, and gets
results. After working with Nicholas, I felt great
about my auditions, got two callbacks, and landed
a touring job.
I would recommend him to any actor."

I am the Producing Artistic Director of the Hudson Warehouse and have been since its inception in 2004. Known as "The Other Free Shakespeare in the Park," we produce free classical theater in Riverside Park during the summer months and we hav
e an indoor season during the winter months as well.

"Mr. M has been my director, coach and
mentor in productions and the classroom. His patience,
insight and his passion excites students, and makes
them feel safe and supported enough to take risks."

*** Teaching Methods ***
I foster a safe, relaxed and engaging environment to explore truthful human behavior on stage.

The objective is 'the truth' to which end there is no one technique. Actors are encouraged to find their own tools and to draw from elements of different practices to discover a technique that works best for them as individuals.

I studied the methods of Constantin Stanislavski for acting with Sergei Pomerov of the Moscow Circus Theater. I am classically trained as well.

I work primarily as a guide to help navigate the way and to interpret ‘the signs.' I teach the lesson in the moment and address the challenges of both the beginner and the experienced actor.

***Classical Work***
My basic approach to classical work focuses primarily on the connection of the breath with the feeling on the word.

This is the foundation on which you can then build. From the ‘words’ to the ‘thoughts’ to entire ‘passages’ of text, as you work and explore, the richness of the playwright’s words comes to life. -Work With Classical Text.
-Vocal Work.
-"Moment to Moment" Work.
-"Sense Memory" Work.

*Experienced Actors
-In depth Classical Text Analysis.
-Connecting to the Text.

Thank you so much for an amazing session. You got down to the core issues with my communication so quickly and providing me with tangible feedback on what I should be doing.

I look forward to working with you over the next few weeks.

I always had a problem with public speaking. I don't articulate words well and don't have any volume. I'm shy and uncomfortable in front of people. Nicholas worked on vocal lessons and how to enunciate and project. We also did breathing exercises and where to place the tongue with words. I improved my diction and with that, got more confidence in speaking in front of people, which is important in my job. Highly Recommend.

I have learned so much with Nicholas. I feel like I'm always walking out of our lessons with my mind blown! We've been working on Shakespearean acting which I am now thoroughly enjoying. I now have a deeper understanding and appreciation for the lines than which I have learned in school. I would highly recommend his coachings to any actor!

Whether preparing for an audition, working on performance, or just playing with some text, our class time is about freeing you in the moment. What if performing Shakespeare could feel just as natural as contemporary texts? Let's find out together! I hold an MFA in acting and have been fortunate to speak the roles of Juliet, Viola, and Ophelia among others.

About Laurie
Originally from San Francisco, Laurie has traveled the country, (and the world) on her quest to make exciting theatre. She just finished up an awesome season as Acting Intern with Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, while concurrently graduating with an MFA in Acting from the Unviersity of South Carolina. Some of Laurie’s favorite projects have been in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. One of her dearest projects is the creation of her solo show, The Maiden’s Prayer, a clown/dance/epic journey based on Chekhov’s Three Sisters and Pina Bausch’s Rite of Spring.

Laurie taught my freshman year acting class. I had never taken an acting class going into it, and to be honest had never really been interested in it. I wasn't good at public speaking and rather shy. To this day, however, this was by far my favorite class I've taken. Laurie was dynamic, made every single lesson fun, and really brought me out of my shell. She kept things simple, but also had some really good insight. One of those teachers that makes it easy and a good time. I highly recommend her to everyone!

I have been a student, collaborator, and educator alongside Laurie for several years now and it's very rare to find someone so relaxed and approachable in their craft while taking it very seriously. Laurie takes the same amount of care with her students as she does with her craft and the result is nothing short of amazing. She is dedicated to the student's growth as artists not only as a student but as one who will go out and interact on stage and off. She is passionate about the material and it comes through in the way she approaches the classroom.

great instructor, much enthusiasm. I took Laurie for a college course and she taught me an unforgettable approach for getting into role for difficult/controversial characters. And I still use that technique today!

How to reach a modern audience. Scansion, the vital importance of this tedious exercise and how it can literally reveal deeper meaning. If your out there auditioning, you need at least two classical monologues of varying lengths, Shakespeare is what is usually expected and is still considered the pinnacle regarding the former and scenes as well. If you prefer a less practical approach, we can certainly attack the subject academically in the main, though academics are naturally included necessarily in the practical work as well. The bottom line is your lessons will depend on your experience, goals and abilities.

About Randy
I have a Masters degree in Theatre History and Criticism (Theatrical Critical Theory). I have teaching experience and have been exposed to many different types of teaching styles and locales, (i.e. classroom, studio).I have a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts with a focus on acting.
I have always been an actor first, simultaneously I have believed that teacher's are born not bred. At the risk of tooting my own horn; I am both, an actor and a teacher with more than a few credentials to support those facts. Peace and Kind Regards

Randy is excellent. His character transcends the need for a review like this, but the fact is, he made it awesome to fight for my first poker lesson over the past two weeks. We haven’t gotten in the software yet, but his exemplary stewardship and expertise has proven a greater boon to me than the best intentions of my initial efforts.

Deciding to learn piano at 25 with zero musical knowledge seemed like a daunting task. Mallory explained the process was the same if you are 2 or 92. With practice and time anyone can learn to play regardless of age or prior skill. She was also happy to suggest resources to help me get on track.

As a relatively young actor, earning his degree from a professional acting program, I know I have a new and fresh take on training young actors. I’m fully prepared to make this extremely hard craft fun and appropriately challenging. I can assure that they will actually be making large strides in their approach to the work, finding out what works best for them.

About Jamal
My name is Jamal, I’m a current acting student at The Conservatory of Theater Arts @ SUNY Purchase in New York. I received my high school diploma from Booker T. Washington HS for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas, TX. Beginning actors will have a great time with me, learning about breaking down scripts, arguably the most important work of any actor looking to be taken seriously, voice work, speech, monologue workshops, and much more. I have experience teaching children through Shakespeare Dallas and am able to adjust training in that respect, still allowing the student to be mentally stretched and challenged.
