A graduate of London's Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Crystal brings the UK's mastery of the skills needed to enact Shakespeare's works.

About Crystal
Crystal brings a lifetime’s experience of professional musicianship to each of her lessons. Born into a family of musicians, she sang her first solo at age 2. She also benefits her students with an extraordinarily diverse musical background, having worked as a vocalist in gospel, country, musical theater, jazz, classical, rock, pop and soul styles. Her performing career has taken her from L.A. church meetings to London’s Houses of Parliament.

Crystal hails originally from Los Angeles, CA - where her musical parents gave her a head start by including her in the family business the moment she was able to contribute. She went on to study classical voice, piano and music theory at The Boston Conservatory of Music. After concluding her studies in London, she returned home and began working regularly as a theater performer, appearing in twen
ty world premiers and re-imagined classics. Most notably she played the lead role of Keely Smith in the big band jazz musical “Louis and Keely: Live At The Sahara” during its eight-month run at Westwood’s Geffen Playhouse. She also formed her own rock band, The Honeysuckle Jones Revival, with whom she performed her own songs all over Los Angeles. And she began working as a studio session vocalist, providing demo vocals for other songwriters, as well as arranging and performing back-up vocals for original artists, including Laura Roppe (currently in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Uncharted list of emerging artists.) Crystal played the lead role of Brooke in the new operatic rock musical “The Burning Opera LA” during its Los Angeles run in 2011 as well as providing ensemble vocals and playing piano and bass. She also performs holiday tunes from the Golden Age of American songwriting with musical quartet The Sleigh Belles.

Crystal believes that music is serious business but that it should be fun. She encourages her students to play music they love, as well as expanding their musical knowledge. She is a firm believer in basics first and emphasizes theory and technique as the tools to support creativity and provide freedom, power and control. She believes effort beats talent every time and the student who practices consistently will see results, whatever their level of ability. Most of all, she believes we were all born to make music.

*** Lesson Details ***

Love how she teaches the mechanics of learning to sing properly such as breathing correctly and posture right from the start for a beginner. Fantastic instructor!

Amazing singng instructor

Crystal has increased my daughter’s self-esteem and expressiveness through song. My daughter is now writing her own poetry and song lyrics, as well as being able to combat her once shyness quality. She loves to perform in front of others now and has a confidence level that amazes me, especially now that she is going into those “teen” years. I think a lot of thanks needs to go to Crystal, for assisting my daughter in reaching her current creative level!

Great piano instructor

Crystal is an amazing piano instructor. She is patient, understanding and dedicated. My daughter has learned so much from her. My daughter’s love for music has increased immensely since learning how to play the piano. This would never have been able to be accomplished without Crystal’s professional and caring teaching style.

Let's work a new monologue, prepare for an audition or scan some Shakespeare!

About Natalie
Hi there! Thank you for taking the time to check out my teaching profile!

Note: I work as the program director for a park district in south Evanston and am required to have a federal background check on file. Please let me know if you would like a copy and I will happily forward it to you!

A bit about me:
I am a working Chicago actress originally from Indianapolis, IN. I graduated from Ball State University with a B.A. in Acting. For three years I lived in Los Angeles pursuing opportunities in film and television. I am a member of SAG/AFTRA and with the help of my agents and manager, I worked on many t.v. shows including Numbers, Commander and Chief and McBride (starring John Larroquette). After realizing how much I missed being on stage, I moved to New York City. I spent two years performing off Broadway before finally landing i
n Chicago to attend graduate school. In 2013, I earned my M.F.A. in Acting from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University. Currently, I am the Director of New Works with The Arc Theatre . Additionally, I direct plays for other prominent theatre companies in the city. I am capable of teaching a variety of theatre skills, including classical techniques, performance of literature and speaking voice.

A bit about you:
YOU are a new actor, an experienced actor or "getting-back-into-the-swing-of-it" actor. YOU need help with an upcoming camera or theatre audition, choosing new monologues, developing a script, exploring different techniques, or understanding this fantastic business.

YOU are excited, scared and most importantly READY TO DIVE IN!

I am here for YOU!

*** Lesson Details ***
I am extremely laid back and open to trying new things. In a lesson, you can expect to bravely explore the world of acting in a safe, nurturing environment. I believe in the "YES" philosophy- anything is possible and everything is valid in developing a creative life. There are no wrong answers! Just millions of GOOD questions. Acting is DOING and through trial error, anyone with the drive and determination can be a successful performer. I will instill the confidence and skills you need to take the next step in your acting career- whatever that may be!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a growing library of books on acting, auditioning and play scripts. I am happy to loan you material and use any of my resources to further your learning.

The warmest teacher around

Natalie helped me with monologues for audition season this year and it's made all the difference! I feel more confident in the product I'm putting out there and more comfortable in the moment of the audition. She has a unique ability to be both creatively nurturing and extremely effective. She'll always be my go to acting coach!

Very helpful

I needed help with projecting and emoting with my voice for a reality TV shoot. Natalie was very helpful in teaching techniques to connect my breath and voice, relax and eliminate tension, and thoroughly warm up. These were very helpful. I went from being anxious on camera to having fun and looking forward to more. Highly recommended!

Supportive and dynamic acting coach!

Natalie coached me on my monologue for a grad school audition, and she was wonderfully responsive. She cultivates a teaching environment of comfort and productivity right from the start with a full vocal and physical warm-up. When I began working with my prepared piece, I felt relaxed and supported. Natalie's suggestions were growth-oriented and ensured my performance communicated a meaningful journey. Her follow-up emails after each session built upon the work done in studio with reminders and actionable tactics.

Approaching Shakespeare's text from an actor's point of view is the best way to understand and engage with the vitality of Shakespeare's language. Shakespeare embedded clues for his actors to unlock the meaning and emotion within the words. By learning a few fundamentals, students will physically connect with Shakespeare's text and be able to make strong character choices. Whether you are a student studying Shakespeare as literature, an actor wishing to work on classical texts, or a litigator or executive wishing to improve your public rhetoric, studying Shakespeare in performance is incredibly valuable.

About Michael
Michael L has been a working actor in Theatre, Film and Television since 1998. Since graduating cum laude from George Washington University he has dedicated himself to teaching and practicing the craft of acting. Michael was a classical acting fellow at the Shakespeare Theatre Company in Washington,DC under the artistic direction of Michael Kahn. My students can expect to learn everything from the basics to Shakespeare in the Park. They can also learn verse, pronunciation, Shakespeare's structure and clues, confidence in the language, and the all embracing emotion of Shakespeare. Shakespeare can seem intimidating, but it can be far more easier and fun than we imagine. We already live Shakespeare's stories and words, and it is my job to help you play the role.

Shakespeare is my life passion and a speciality of my actor experience and training. Our time together will be able to enhance or uncover whatever you need to know about the Bard and yourself.

I have trained with The Royal Shakespeare Company, began The Bridge Production Group (An Off-Broadway Shakespearean Co.), and have performed in 6 Shakespeare, I recently finished Richard III (Fourth St. Theatre). "Owen's confidence and strength in speech made him stand out from the rest of the cast. He moved and spoke with such ease and want." (Manhattan with a Twist)

I primarily go in for tv/film work, but his classical training foundation and fresh perspective translate to the screen. Walking into an audition room can be intimidating-- but it doesn't have to be! I have learned to love auditioning for stage and screen by uncovering discoveries in the text, embracing spontaneity in the room, and giving myself permission to breathe (it's a lot of breathing). I can't wait to help you find the same tools and help you gain the confidence to kill it every time. Auditioning is really just another chance to perform, after all!

About Becca
I grew up in Idaho, but these days I'm thrilled to have an extensive stage career as an actor in primarily Shakespeare and new work, working off-Broadway and in major regional theatres like the Alabama Shakespeare Festival. I'm a proud member of Actor's Equity, and a represented client of a top NYC agent-- both achievements I received right out of college after booking a major regional show.

Like many of my students, I grew up in a small town (mine was in Idaho) before the acting bug bit. I learned to love auditioning early, earning acceptance into Interlochen Arts Academy, the top high school performing arts boarding school in the country at age 15. After thriving there, I was accepted into a handful of top college theatre programs, ultimately choosing to study at Fordham University in New York City, where I graduated summa cum laude. S
ince then, I haven't stopped auditioning!

Now that you know I know a thing or two, here's how you'll know I'm a good fit for you:
-- You're interested in feeling more confident in auditions or onstage.
-- You're willing to take chances with me in a safe, caring environment.
-- You want a partner who will invest in your progress.
-- You're open to learning from me, and allowing me to learn from you.
-- You're trying to figure out where you fit as an actor.
-- You're ready to be surprised by yourself!

Becca is the bomb! I've done a couple of Shakespeare plays, but she taught me a lot about the text and the history of the play that I didn't know. She helped me create a subtext to the whole monologue, so I always had actions to take even without a scene partner there. I want to do a Falstaff monologue soon, and I definitely want her to help me with that, too.

Becca was AWESOME! From the moment we met, I felt really comfortable with her, which is obviously really important for acting.
