With a degree in English Literature, reading comprehension has been the most important aspect of my academic carreer. I know how to help you confidently navigate and come to a more complete and nuanced understanding of what you are reading, the main morals, motifs, and main purpose of each piece you read.

Our focus will of course be on coming to a complete and correct understanding of exactly what you are reading. Depending on the level you are at, our sessions will eventually inspire you to develop your own bold and unique opinions on everything that you read going forward.

Reading music is what I prefer to teach my students. It’s fun to “jam” but I feel Im especially good at teaching beginners how to learn to read their music from the beginning.

I️ was connected to Rod through a tutoring agency. I️ contacted the agency because I️ recently graduated college and wanted to get into grad school but had not taken a math class since the 10th grade. The school I️ was applying to needed a minimum math score for the GRE, which I️ knew would be a enormous stretch for me. Additionally, I️ always had trouble with math and knew I️ would need a tutor to re-teach me everything I️ needed to know to get the score I️ wanted. Initially, the agency connected me to 3 different tutors who were all absolutely terrible! Sometimes they didn’t even know how to answer sample questions in the workbooks! Finally, I was connected to Rod. After our first meeting I️ knew he would be the one who would help me improve. After a month of intense work with him my GRE math scores actually improved a full 12 points! Beyond that, he literally taught me math in a way in which I️ actually understood it. Before I️ just thought I couldn’t learn, but now I’m confident that I️ actually retained everything and it even made sense! I’m so grateful to have met Rod because before him I️ truly felt hopeless. I️ would definitely recommend Rod to anyone who is looking to drastically improve their math skills. If you’re like me and hate math, can’t grasp it, and even feel like you just can’t learn it, then definitely contact Rod now! You won’t be sorry!

I initially reached out to Rod for Algebra 1 review because I felt that my daughter lacked a solid foundation in algebra. However, after a couple of sessions, we have decided to switch gears toward geometry with Rod’s recommendation. Throughout the geometry lessons, algebra practice was incorporated. I am happy that not only did Rod tailor his lessons to my daughter’s goals but also he gave her a lot of encouragement. My daughter found it extremely helpful that she got to explain and discuss with Rod, which made lessons interactive and real learning. Now going back to school, my daughter feels confident, thanks to Rod!

For a student to become fluent in speaking English, they must master reading in English. This is not just the ability to read and understand the material that they read. The best way is to read - OUT LOUD - in English. This will have you seeing the material, speaking in English and hearing yourself speak. Many new foreign students are "shy" about speaking. The more you practice and develop this skill, the better your English conversation will become. I have taught children and adults of all ages to master reading in English. Practice will make you feel more confident.

"My lessons with Laurel have been fantastic! She's very patient & knows exactly how to make everything make sense & how to break things down in order give proper analysis in whatever she teaches from piano to singing to basic music theory. She was able to answer any questions I had in full detail. She's a very warm & welcoming person that loves to teach & can do so very well. I highly recommend her as an instructor. She is with out a doubt, a genius of her craft."

"Ms. Adams is an amazing teacher!! She worked with my son for 3 months to help him improve his reading and comprehension skills. My son was not making any gains in his traditional classroom setting so I thought that one-on-one instruction might benefit him. Ms. Adams exceeded my expectations!! She kept my son engaged for long 1-2 hour sessions, she pushed him to do more each time they were together and she gave him praise as he hit milestones. She also kept me informed of his progress and gave me tips on how to reinforce what they covered at home between sessions. Best teacher/tutor that I’ve ever used (and I have had several with both of my children). Thank you again, Ms. Adams!!!"

"Emily has taught my daughters for over 2 years now. In that time they have grown tremendously and I'm so thankful for Emily's work with them. Emily is excellent at building relationships with kids. My girls feel seen by her and this has helped them be willing to work with her. I'll be the first to admit my girls aren't always the easiest, but Emily never blinks. She handles everything with a smile and is able to get them back on track.

Emily is a delightful role model and I'm also thankful that my girls have gotten to see her enthusiasm for learning and life."

"My students and I have had the opportunity to work with Stacey at the school building level and online. Stacey's reading intervention strategies have helped students improve their reading levels by 1.5 to 2 years throughout a six month timeframe. Stacey's instructional practices are rooted in research from experts in teaching reading and writing, such as Lucy Calkins. I would recommend utilizing the different reading and writing strategies that Stacey can implement for small groups and individualized tutoring."
