My substantial areas of expertise are women and men patternmaking, draping, garment construction (sewing), tailoring, technical drawing, concepts sketching, from basic to advance skill set. I am also a big fan of incorporating recycled / repurposing materials such as leather, suede into garments.I encourage students to construct their own learning in an environment that stimulates and helps students to realize their full potential.

Hi! My name is Avalon. I have my bachelors degree in fashion design and I’ve been making clothes for almost 10 years but I’ve been passionate about fashion for as long as I can remember. I started teaching kids how to sew one summer and I’ve been in love with it ever since. I have experience in both pattern making and draping and I own my own business where I make custom designs for customers. I am comfortable teaching students at all levels, so feel free to reach out.

I have over 20 years’ experience. I have been working for major fashion brands companies in NYC. I am experienced with working with beginners, intermediate and all levels. I am offering industry level sewing classes and pattern correcting and altering techniques that will cater to your needs. I will be able to teach foundation skills of how to operate a sewing machine, how to use a serger or how to use an industrial sewing machine. I will also teach how to hand sew, follow and understand a pattern and how to finish your work beautifully. I am also going to work with you on your own personal projects.
I teach hands on beginner’s patternmaking and sewing skills that you will need for garment production, arts and crafts and any project that involves sewing. For instance: I can help you make pillows, bags, aprons, stuffed toys and other household items. If you want to make clothing, I will guide you through using a published pattern.

I learned to sew in a high school Costume Design class when I was 15 and I haven't stopped since. In 2013, I received a Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design after which I started a cottage business making women's clothing and accessories.

My skills are specific to pattern-making, machine sewing, hand sewing, basic alterations, and how to start a fashion business.

I believe that with a strong sewing foundation you will find endless capabilities.
