I teach students how to read and how to increase their reading comprehension with different methods of acting out the plots and making them come alive with students.

Experienced reading teacher of 3 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of comprehension and decoding skills. I specialize in increasing student achievement and high-interest low readability texts. I look forward to working with you!

I love teaching reading to students because it opens up the doors of their imaginations. Good reading is essential and still valued in the United States. I will help those who have small difficulties to not being able to read at all.

Using both a phonics and whole word approach, I emphasize letter sound and high-frequency word recognition. Some students hesitate to read out loud out of fear of making mistakes. However, by creating a comfortable atmosphere, I enable a student to learn easily in a supportive environment as we explore interesting passages of all types, including creative fictional, history-based, science-based, and contemporary.

I have worked with students of all ages from elementary school to middle school to high school to adults. I encourage working on all aspects of reading, including fluency, word recognition, vocabulary, and comprehension, in order to develop the full range of reading skills.

I am a dedicated teacher with over 25 years of classroom experience, as well as numerous years prior to that as a volunteer literacy tutor and tutor trainer. I have received Teacher of the Year awards at two different schools and a state-level organizational award in recognition of my performance and abilities. I have been a Title I summer school tutor for 3 years and have 5 years experience as a reading tutor. I have an English As A Second Language Endorsement from the University of Phoenix. I was a substitute Language Arts/Reading teacher Grades 2-12 for many years. Have fun learning and progressing quickly in lessons with me!
