About Jennifer
I am a professional singer-songwriter and have been teaching lessons fulltime for the last 12 years. I teach students of all ages and levels of experience. My current range of students include: kids with learning/developmental disabilities, teenagers who have starred in school musicals, and performing adult singer-songwriters. Whatever your background or desire, I can help you to cultivate your unique musical potential, and to strengthen your creative voice.

As a professional vocalist and pianist, I have worked freelance, in a variety of settings, over the years--including solo, in wedding bands, small jazz and rock/pop groups and with big bands. I have been singing with the Mood Swings Big Band for 6+ years. During that time, we have performed at the White House, the Chamber of Commerce and in Kennebunkport, Maine (at the Bush e
state).

I also have an extensive professional and personal background in meditation (10 years), astrology (5 years) and healing (particularly Reiki, 4 years). I am very interested in the intersection between a healing/mindfulness-awareness approach and singing/playing piano.

Jennifer is an awesome piano teacher! She works great with children! My 6 year old is very engaged, interested and ready to learn! She leaves each week saying how she cannot wait for her next lesson and she practices a lot at home. I believe this comes from Jennifer's excellence in teaching! I would highly recommend her!

About Julia
Hi! My name is Julia A. I have been tutoring students of all ages and skill levels at learning centers, colleges, libraries and schools since 2008.

My instruction extends nationwide, with students from all corners of the US, utilizing online tutoring services such as Skype.

My main field of study is in MATH (trig, algebra, geometry, precalculus), CHEMISTRY (high school and college), and PHYSICS (high school and college).

I completed my Bachelors in Physics and Mathematics Education at Hunter University and have gained experience with both in-person and online group instruction and curriculum development.

Some examples of the students I have tutored are: Elementary school students preparing for State competitions and exams; High school and College students in preparing for entrance exams, and in subjects such as algebra, geome
try, trig, precalc, chemistry and physics.

I do Regents and SAT/ACT prep for these subjects as well as the GRE (These are NYS based High School Preparatory Exams - do not hesitate to ask should you need assistance with the ones offered in your state/country).

In addition, I am thorough and meticulous, by paying special attention to how the student grasps information and retains it, and prepare individualized handwritten reviews, with supplemental material found online and in texts.

I assign homework to keep my students ahead of what is going on in class, and a visual and intuitive understanding of the concepts I present is important to me, so I use visual aids (diagrams and virtual art) to help my students integrate what they learn with me in real life situations.

My instruction includes those with a gap in going back to school/university. I start with an assessment based on what the student has trouble with or remembers last covering in school, and prepare material going from there.

As a result, my students all have improved grades without any need for cramming before tests, and I encourage a stress-free and easygoing learning environment.

My lessons are fun and enthusiastic - these subjects are beautiful and will help open your mind to new ways of thinking - whatever your field of study!

Julia creates her own curriculum which is better than anything my daughters receive in their schools.
I see marked improvements in their grades for this past year, and my eldest is actually skipping fourth grade as a result of lessons. I am astounded as to my girls' progress, and greatly appreciative of our tutor's expertise.
Her patient, methodical approach to teaching is why I see us remaining with her for all of our educational instruction. She has already taught arithmetic to my youngest (3rd grade), and algebra to my eldest (starting 5th this sept!), and is proceeding with more advanced math with no issue whatsoever. I cannot recommend her enough.

I'm in a fast paced trig course at my uni, and we've covered things I never did in high school. I did 5 lessons over skype with Julia, and know I've found a keeper. She sends stuff to practice on in advance and has me work with her like I would with my professor. She comes up with practice based on my weakest areas and never shortens time. I don't even have to ask for review material because she assigns hw to work on, and basically, I'm a master at graphing now.

About Ashleigh
I'm a full-time Spanish teacher at a private high school in Washington, DC where I have taught levels 1-IV for the last 4 years. Prior to that, I lived in Germany as a military spouse where I taught yoga. Before Germany, I taught Spanish for two years at a private boarding school in Raleigh, North Carolina. My first teaching position, however, was in Granada, Spain where I taught English at a rural school near Granada, Spain having won a fellowship after university graduation.
Although my bachelors is in Spanish Language and Literature I am studying TESOL at American University where I have completed 12 credits in language assessment, second language acquisition and linguistics. My classes are engaging and personalized. For my athlete students, I find articles and clips about their sport that we build language around. I do the same
for the interests of my other students, thereby making their connection to the language personal and intrinsic. In our tutoring sessions, there will be music, video and games! Because I am a teacher, I can help you liaise with your student's teacher in a way that will help us understand how to help your student.

About Ashlee
I'm a performer, choreographer, journalist, and certified yoga instructor. I hold a BFA in Dance and a Minor in Journalism from California State University, Long Beach where I graduated Cum Laude. In addition, I am a 200-RYT with Yoga Alliance after receiving my training through Long Beach School of Yoga under the direction of Ram Bhakt.

With dance, I have received training from professional artists Bernadette Alverio, Rebecca Lemme, Gracie Whyte, Laurel Jenkins, Keith Johnson, Lorin Johnson, Sophie Monat, John Pennington, Lisa Johnson, Alicia Head, and Rebecca Bryant.

Currently, I am a company member of Authentic: Grooves, and was formerly a company member of SURGE Dance Company. During my time at CSULB, I have performed in faculty works by Lorin Johnson, Rebecca Lemme, Rebecca Bryant, and student works by Jasmine Mosher and Tayl
or Worden.

I have attended the River North Dance Chicago 2016 Summer Intensive and BODYTRAFFIC's 2017 Concurrent Winter Workshop where I trained by and alongside company members under the workshop direction of Sara Bibik (RNDC) and Tina Finkelman-Berkett (BT). In 2016, I had the privilege of performing Rebecca Bryant’s ASKQUESTIONSLATER at the John F. Kennedy Center of Performing Arts for the American College Dance Association’s National Gala in Washington D.C.

For yoga, I teach a wide-range of yoga styles, with an emphasis on healing, somatic techniques, and Integral yoga principles. I have been practicing yoga for several years and teaching since 2017. Most of my classes consist of Gentle Flow practices to focus on finding space and stillness, providing the body an opportunity to unwind, heal, and restore. However, I am trained to teach Vinyasa Flow, Integral Yoga, Yin Yoga, and Iyengar Yoga. Currently I teach for Free Yoga on the Beach in Long Beach, CA.

My mission is to inspire students to find the stillness and breath in life, starting on the mat. Through a balance of flow and somatic technique, my classes will take you deeper in your practice. As a dancer and athlete, I understand the demands the body goes through daily, and firmly believe that yoga should reflect the opposite of your lifestyle. Implementing tactile adjustments and healing intentions, my classes will help you unwind, restore, and open up. I believe that through the steady practice of yoga, we can restore ourselves and bring zen to our lives in an already hectic world.

I have experience writing for the performance arts—specifically dance—entertainment stories, and media design. During my education, I was published in CSULB's Daily 49er university newspaper several times for the CSULB Department of Dance concerts. I actively write for the dance blog Spot LA run by Monica Reid where I report on the thriving LA dance scene.

I aspire to continue working in a performance company, write about dance, teach dance and yoga, travel, and continue my education to attain a M.F.A. in Dance.

Flip Your World Upside Down: Benefits of Inversion Yoga

Curious about inversion yoga? Learn how to do some of the essential poses in this guest post by San Diego teacher Tiffany V...   We are so used to viewing life from a “right-side-up” perspective, where we soak in the world around us by way of our sensory organs (eyes, ears, nose, and mouth). We process everything upstairs, allowing it all to accumulate to form our point of view, which in turn fuels our decisions, reactions, and movements down to our toes. Rather than taking the ti … Read More
