I wasn't Tom's student per se but he and I went over lots of material for our various cover bands and he's a very thorough, patient teacher, very adamant about getting parts exactly right but willing to listen to occasional disagreements. highly recommended!

my experience

Tom really knows his way around a bass. Each time I go for a lesson, i leave happy about the things we've accomplished in the lesson. Anything that i would like to learn Tom makes it possible for me to do so. I started getting lessons in order to not slow down on my playing. With my schedule constantly changing Tom has been very nice at accommodating when possible.

As a professional tutor with Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes Center, I was trained in a highly effective and specified program for teaching math. This program focuses on mental imagery, which is the foundation for basic conceptualization. I am very comfortable teaching people struggling with math, and am also quick to adapt my strategy to each person's needs.

About Mariana
Hello! After earning my Bachelor of Music degree in Classical Voice from Hunter College in 2011, I have been working successfully as a singer, voice coach, and academic tutor. As a singer, over the past 8 years I have performed at professional theaters across the country, including Off-Broadway and at the world-renown Carnegie Hall. I specialize in musical theatre, but have a thorough classical technique, as well as strong pop/rock/belt training.

My teaching style is highly energetic, and engages the development of the student's self-esteem and enjoyment, but is also focused on a foundational technique and strong work-ethic. I am extraordinarily proud of the accomplishments many of my students have made, from achieving principal parts in their school productions, to even getting cast in Broadway shows. I am determined to help every on
e of my students reach their greatest potentials.

As a tutor, my approach is no different. Trained in the highly specialized and effective Lindamood-Bell programs, I have an intuitive grasp of children's needs and levels. I teach decoding, math, and reading comprehension, and nurture students' self-esteem and independence in their learning.

I give lessons in 30, 45, and 60 minute increments. Each lesson will be personalized to the specific needs of the student.

We practiced the new cadence for example of the deceptive cadence, the plagal cadence, and the phrygian. we learnt the basic root progression. a standard method of connecting triads with roots a fifth apart is to hold the common tone in the same voice and move all the other parts to the closest possible chord number. We learn about mediant triads s well.some ways using cadence that I can expand my harmonization practice is in general, when tempted to part write or analyze a chord in common-practice music as iii (in major), give the context further thought. i imagine with this knowledge it ill help me to compose a better harmonize song.
We practice together the scale degrees that are designated by Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3...), chor ds are similarly designated by Roman numerals (I, II, III). For example, in the key of C major the notes are C,D,E,F,G,A,B and we have designated them as 1,2,3,4,5,6,7. However, when we consider the triad chords in the key of C we have Cmaj, Dm, Em, Fmaj, Gmaj, Am, Bdim. These are designated I,II,III,IV,V,VI,VII. When speaking about these chords, for instance in the key of C major, we would call Gmaj the five chord, Dm the two chord,

The easiest way to find an interval's name is to first, count all the pitch names present, including the notes themselves (ignore sharps and flats at this point). Then, find out (had it been missing a flat or sharp) what type of interval it would be, depending on whether it is perfect (a 1,4,5,8) or major (2,6,7). If there are no sharps or flats, you are done. If there are, figure out if the flat or sharp decreases or increases the distance between the two pitches. If it increases the distance, the interval is augmented. If it decreases the distance, and the interval would otherwise be perfect, it is diminished. If it decreases the distance and the interval would otherwise be major, it is min that is what I learnt

Mariana was great! Very professional and able to explain the techniques in a very clear way. When I began, I was very nervous and self-conscious. She was patient and kind and never made me feel embarrassed!

She really knows her stuff and technique. I'd been to a few voice teachers before and they were great singers, but they didn't seem to have to really KNOW the techniques behind singing. Mariana clearly is a wonderful singer and has great training in what she does.

I am interested in helping students struggling with math from basic algebra to calculus. When I was a computer science student, I took about 10 math classes; Calculus I, II, and III, Linear Algebra, Discrete Math I and II, Discrete Probability, Statistics and Continuous Probability, and Numeric Method on Digital Computing. I got good grades for all these classes. I enjoyed solving problems in math and often found myself taking the challenges of solving extra credit problems. It would be a very rewarding experience if I am able to share the process of solving math problems with others and help them improve their abilities to solve problems on their own.

About Amber
I was born and raised in S. Korea. I studied piano performance at Cleveland Institute of Music and University of Iowa and hold DMA in piano performance and pedagogy from University of Iowa. Other than music I hold BS in Computer Science from State University of New York, Albany. I began to play the piano when I was six and won prizes from the local competitions sponsored by Daegu Board of Education and Dague Division of Korean Musicians Association. I performed in major cities in Korea, the US and Europe such as Seoul, Paris, Vienna, Cleveland and Philadelphia. I participated in The Joanna Hodges International Piano Competition during my last year at University of Iowa and was mentioned by the judges as a technically very good pianist. For additional studies I participated in Aspen Music School and Music Festival, Claude Elffere's Master
Class (Paris, France), Mozarteum Summer School and Music Festival (Salzburg, Austria) and Vienna Music Seminar (Vienna, Austria). I was awarded scholarship when I attended Cleveland Inctitute of Music and Aspen Music School. My teachers include Jinsook Kim, Donald Walker, Paul Schenly, Gabriel Chodos, Viktor Teuflmayr, Claude Elffere, Anne Epperson, and Vivian Hornik Weilestein.
Previously I was a rehearsal pianist of operas, II pagliacci by Leoncavallo with Daegu Opera, Snatched by the Gods and Broken Strings by Param Vir with University of Iowa Theatre department, and contemporary operas based on the works by Francesca Cavalli with Temple University Opera. Other than operas I worked with Missoula Children’s Theatre for the performance of Aladdin. As a collaborative pianist I performed in numerous concerts and performed in master classes of Joseph Silverstein, Steven Isserlis, Julliard Quartet, Isaac Stern and Richard Stoltzman. I have been teaching piano at the university settings (University of Iowa and Catholic University of Daegu) or privately for 10+ years. Recently I taught at Half Note Music School in Bellevue, WA and was a pianist at St. Columba's Episcopal Church and United Christian Church in Renton, WA.

I have been helping others learn math for two years now, and I enjoy watching it click for others just as much as I enjoyed it when math first began to make sense to me. From experience, I know that mathematics can be very easy, or seemingly impossible to learn depending on how the information and concepts are presented. I first gauge how my students like to learn and determine any weak areas that need strengthening, and then I guide them towards a firm understanding of the concepts.

About Colin
Hello there! My name is Colin and I am a senior biomedical engineering major and undergraduate researcher at UC Berkeley. Additionally, I have been tutoring math, science, and essay writing on college campuses and online since 2014. Math and science are a significant part of my daily life, which is fortunate for me as I am very passionate about both.

As a tutor, my goal is not to impress you with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to impress you by showing you how easily math and science concepts can come to you when you are presented the material the way *you* need to see and hear it. It's my guarantee to you that I will always strive to communicate the concepts effectively, listen to your questions with patience, and work with your unique way of learning to help you truly understand the material. This takes time, and it takes work
, but the rewards that come from it - high test scores, a strong GPA, and deep satisfaction of really mastering math and science concepts - are worth it many times over.

*Read a little further if you would like to know about my personal story on my journey to becoming a math and science tutor*

Admittedly, I didn't discover my passion for math and science until years after high school. In fact, I was seemingly terrible at both. This, I later found, was mainly due to poor communication and poor presentation of the concepts from my high school teachers. Almost eight years later, a genuine curiosity induced me to seek out YouTube videos on various math and science topics, and upon finding the right videos, where the material was presented effectively, it was actually fun and very satisfying to learn. In fact, I found that the concepts came rather easily to me. It was a night and day difference from my high school experience.

At this point, it was a glaring reality to me that people simply do not learn effectively when they aren't being presented the material in a very clear and interesting manner (for some strange reason, this is especially a problem with physics teachers/professors). For example, understanding *why* acceleration has units of meters per second squared makes those units much easier to memorize than simply knowing "it just does." Knowing *why* the x-coordinate of the vertex of a parabola is -b/2a, and why it's useful to even know how to find the vertex, makes it worlds easier to memorize than being told "it just is." Very few people in the world can learn effectively just by hearing dry, seemingly random information. On the contrary, people tend to learn and remember information they deem valuable. Since this discovery, it has been a goal of mine to help others learn and enjoy math and science the same way I do. I accomplish this by being a clear communicator, and teaching math and science concepts with excitement and demonstrating how this knowledge is valuable.

A drive to teach others is not the only good thing to come from my latent discovery of my passion for STEM. After teaching myself algebra through YouTube videos and various books, I enrolled in community college and placed in trigonometry. After completing my general education with a 4.0, I transferred to UC Berkeley into the biomedical engineering program and the rest, as they say, is history. Amazing things can happen when you are able to learn effectively!

Hello! My name is Jessica! I am working on my Master of Teaching in Mathematics from University of Virginia. I have tutored math for about 7 years, and would be delighted to work with your student. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions; I would love to hear from you!!

About Jessica
Hello! My name is Jessica! I hold a Bachelor of Music in Clarinet Performance from Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, and am working toward a Master of Teaching in Mathematics at University of Virginia in Charlottesville. I have been teaching and tutoring for about 7 years now, and I guess something is going right in our sessions; all my students are highly successful, I'm such a proud teacher. I would love for your student to be one of them! Please do not hesitate to reach out even if it's just to ask questions; I would love to hear from you!!

I am qualified to teach/tutor such subjects as mathematics (any through calculus; anything beyond that I would need to review and have no trouble doing so), also writing, chemistry, physics, music theory, general music, and SAT prep (predominantly mathematics). I have a private piano and clarin
et studio, and though space is limited, I would love for you to join it.

***It is worth mentioning that I currently live in Charlottesville as I finish up the coursework in my program. Unfortunately because of that, I can only accept students virtually if you're not local for me. I do have much experience with virtual lessons, so please do not hesitate to try it out. I will be moving back to Northern Virginia one year from now to do my student-teaching, so in-person lessons can happen if you can be patient and bear with me. Again, I would love to hear from you and hope to get the chance to work with your student.

As a math major in college and six years experience as a math tutor, I've discovered the secrets to helping students succeed. Whether you're getting ready to take the SAT or you're struggling through Geometry, I've got you've covered. I've worked with all levels of understanding and development, and like to create an environment where the student can feel free to ask questions and use real world examples. Math can truly be fun when you understand it!

About Maggie
I graduated from Furman University in May of 2016, with a major in Computing and Applied Mathematics. I tutored at high schools all throughout my college years, as well as being hired by the college to teach my peers in lower math classes. Following graduation, I became a home school teacher for a few families in the Bradenton area, with children ranging from elementary all the way up to high school. Although I am especially experienced in math, I have taught in all common core subjects. I love working one on one with kids-- there is a real opportunity for them to ask questions and integrate learning with whatever method works best for them and keeps them engaged.

I am now currently enrolled in my second year at dental school in Bradenton, Florida, and have found a great way to integrate my mathematical education. I love that I am st
ill able to tutor and keep the teaching passion of mine alive while I attend school.

I love to work with math students of all ages, ranging anywhere from early elementary to collegiate level. Although I teach Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 most commonly, there are few levels of math I am uncomfortable with. I love to help students make math applicable-- starting with simple problems and working up to multi-step. Through questions and examples, we can create a formula that works best for you. Every student's learning style is slightly different and I have found fun ways to accommodate this. I want to instill confidence and knowledge in my students! I know we can do it!

Best tutor I've had so far. I've tried a lot because math never makes sense to me, but with Maggie I pulled my grade up from a D- to a B which none of the others could do. She was actually one of the least expensive ones I tried and was definitely worth the price. She was very patient and had really good explanations. She really helped me catch up from being so behind. Plus, I normally hate asking questions but she makes it pretty comfortable so I definitely recommend her.
