I will teach you how to properly study for a test as well as tutor you in any subject you might need.
Everyone has a beautiful voice. Let me teach you how to make it heard.
My passion for music is the most pervasive quality of my personality. Consequently, passing that passion on to others is what brings me the most joy in life. My goal is to spread the love and appreciation for this unique and transcending art form through guidance, performance, and instruction. As my student, you will receive exactly what you (or your child) want out of the lessons-you are the one controlling what you want from them (be it any style of music, professional track or just for fun, music theory, and performance) and I am there to provide it. Music is nothing short of extremely fun and completely liberating.
I have always loved to sing and play guitar and piano starting from a young age, and I never gave up my determination and passion for perfor
ming. In middle and high school I did many musicals (Jekyll and Hyde, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oliver, Miss Saigon, Little Shop of Horrors, Footloose, Kiss Me Kate, and Cats) and sang in the choir (including the California All State Honor Choir and Jazz Choir). I played guitar in the school Jazz Band and participated in many jam sessions out of school. I also participated in many piano competitions, including ones for my own composition (I received an honorable mention for one of my own piano works). In college, I received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Redlands. I have recently completed my Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Redlands. I have performed many opera roles including Suor Angelica in Puccini's Suor Angelica, Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata, the Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute, and Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte, and Najade in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos. I was also in the University Chapel Singers Choir, Madrigals Choir, and Treblemakers a Capella Jazz choir. I currently reside in Germany where I am teaching online lessons to students all over the world, teaching English, and pursuing an opera career. So far I have sung the role of the Queen of the Night in Weimar, Germany and have done a few concerts singing Christine from the Phantom of the Opera.
"Hard work beats talent if talent does not work hard." This is my favorite quote. I truly believe that hard work will take you anywhere, no matter where your starting point is. With hard work and determination, you can be anything you want to be. With motivation, anyone can be a beautiful singer, guitarist, and pianist. If I did not believe this with all my heart, I would not be where I am today. To me, every student has great potential. It is my job and joy to bring out that potential and cultivate it into talent, love, and passion.
My lessons are fun and rewarding. I do not believe that a critical environment is one that is healthy or pleasant to learn in. Therefore, I am a very encouraging, patient, and supportive teacher, and I will praise you for your improvements, as well as help you correct your difficulties. I like to think of my lessons as a team effort, with more emphasis on working together and having fun. With that being said, I believe that you get what you put in out of our lessons. The more you practice and the more you show me determination and motivation, the more we can have fun, improve technique, and really make music in our lessons.
I customize each lesson to my student, so you tell me what you want to sing or play and what your goals as a musician are, and I will instruct you (or your child) in the exact way that fits your goals and interests. After a couple months with me, you will have a new found passion for music, knowledge of proper technique, reading and diction, and the skills to perform and communicate pieces of music. Most importantly, you will have the time of your life!
My voice lessons consist of vocal warm-ups where you learn proper technique and posture, breathing exercises to expand your diaphragm and support when you sing, and Repertoire work where you apply the technique you learned, practice performance skills, and learn diction of English, Italian, German, Hebrew, or French.
My guitar and piano lessons start with learning how to read music (if you do not know already) and being familiar with the keys or frets and the notes on the staff. Then we work on pieces of music, paying attention to the key factors of musicianship including rhythm, interpretation, dynamics, composition, musicality, and performance practice. My music theory lessons are based on whatever the student wants to learn or needs instruction on. I teach anywhere from basic music notation to advanced harmonic and formal analysis.
My speaking and lessons are similar to my voice lessons, minus the singing aspect-the same technique we use for singing is the technique we must use for speaking if we want to be heard, be healthy, and not get tired or worse - lose our voice. We work on breathing and projection techniques and then practice on a reading sample or presentation.
My acting lessons consist of different improv-acting games, projection techniques, and monologue and role studies. You will learn how to communicate a message to the audience clearly and effectively while having a wonderful time!
My language and tutoring classes are focused on fluency-getting comfortable speaking in the target language. We go through chapters of a lesson plan I created myself-learning vocabulary and grammar by learning the functions of them and completing speaking goals. After just a few lessons, you will find that you will be able to converse in your target language. Your individual pace is the most important to me, so we learn at the speed that you are the most comfortable with.
All I expect from you is to bring a pencil, a good attitude, and the willingness to practice and work hard in our lessons, and I will supply the rest! Looking forward to hearing your beautiful music or voice!
I have worked as a tutor for several years and taught a variety of subjects. My main goal is to equip every student with tools they need to be successful. I care more about comprehension and learning, than grades. I work with each student individual to develop a personalized plan of organization, motivation, and accountability.
I have extensively studied vocal performance for many years and continue to add to my own technique. I have a Master of Vocal Performance Degree from the Chicago College of Performing Arts. I have a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology, where I extensively studied the anatomy of the voice. I am the founder of BAWS Studio where we train artists in all aspects of performance (singing, songwriting, recording, piano, and guitar). I previously worked for a recording studio (Sound Summit Studios in Naperville IL) where I teach voice and help singers record their music in the studio. I have previously taught at The School of Rock in Indianapolis Indiana. I have administered vocal lessons to every voice type at all different levels. Several of my students have recored albums and are currently performing all over the World.
I have a bachelors
degree in biology with a minor in art. After graduating college, I was a full-time high school biology teacher, volleyball coach, and director of the school musical. As a high school teacher, I learned first hand the kind of pressure and expectations that are placed on students in order for them to succeed. In college, I was the head student researcher on a two-year lab project. I took several upper level science courses including: biochemistry, calculus, organic chemistry, calculus based physics, cell biology, anatomy, and physiology. I studied marine biology in the Virgin Islands and am CPR certified.
*** Lesson Details *** Voice lessons with me are fun and effective. You can expect to hear improved technique from day one, eventually reaching your long term goals. I begin every lesson aligning the students voice through various vocal warm ups and exercises. We then work together to pick repertoire that will suit the singer's voice and they will enjoy singing. During a lesson we will also cover performance presentation, acting, diction, rhythm, musicality, style, and interpretation.
During tutoring you can expect a personalized plan based on your goals and aspirations. Since every student is different you can be assured we will come up with a plan that is designed just for you. I am a laid back tutor but will be sure to get the most out of you after our time together. Most students see at least a one letter grade improvement. My main goal for every tutoring session is student learning and comprehension.
*** Studio Equipment *** Piano, recording equipment, large collection of sheet music

So far, lessons with Ben have been VERY good (and productive! I'm naturally a reserved person, but He has gotten me to push beyond my comfort zone (that is "be louder"), which in retrospect has also helped me build my confidence in other areas. So at this point I look forward to having lessons, because I am growing in my understanding of how to use this God-given gift; a gift that's meant to be shared (not hidden away in silence).
I have taught 30+ test prep students, ACT, SAT, GRE, GMAT, ASVAB, GED, TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, etc. Using my broad teaching expertise and coursework in mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry) English (reading, writing, grammar) and Science (biology, chemistry, physics), I have helped prospective university students (juniors, seniors and even sophomores) get the scores they need to gain acceptance to their top school choices. Let me show you how successful you or your child can be.
A recent success story from one of my students was an increase of 4 points on her ACT, for a composite of 30. That's 16 individual points within four subjects!

After speaking to multiple tutoring companies, we discovered Matthew. Matthew was very professional and made my son feel comfortable. They had a total of 5 tutoring sessions covering Math, English, Science and Reading. My son took the ACT after his tutoring sessions and scored a 23. We were very pleased with the progress our son made by going from an ACT score of 19 to 23 after only 5 sessions with Matthew. I would highly recommend Matthew J. Horwich to anyone needing tutoring.

Matthew explained his approach to coaching and the plan so we were able to make an educated choice on the best tutor for our son. Matthew was responsive, organized and worked very well with our son. He communicated directly with our son and cc:ed me so that I was aware of the plan and f/u. His scores did improve on the SAT and we were pleased with the investment.

Matt has been awesome for my student. His math skills have improved greatly, and his writing has come from illegible to what can now be described as neat and readable. Matt has been very patient and deliberate with our son and has taken the time to really explain things to Jake in a way he can understand. We would recommend this tutor to any parent looking for a tutor for their grammar school student! Matt is also reliable and prompt and showed up when expected which was helpful with our very busy schedules.
Master in various test preps. Can identify student shortfalls and address them through study skills and prioritization.
I'm a graduate of UCLA School of Engineering with a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering. I have a passion for explaining how the physical world works through math and physics along with 10 years of tutoring experience in those subjects, test prep, and mentorship programs. The teaching strategy I believe in emphasizes subject fundamentals, a powerful and necessary tool for higher problem solving. This strategy has proven effective regardless of the student's educational background or mental ability. Besides being knowledgeable, I am motivating, caring, and patient in guiding your student to academic success!
Executive Functioning is a separate realm that tutoring can assist in. It deals with cognitive processes including organization, time management, and study skills. Much of the difficulty students face in academic subjects can be attribute
d to the lack of executive functioning. They either cannot keep up with the pace and workload that advanced courses demand or haven't figured out the best way to study for themselves. I am able to assess a student's shortcomings and formulate a plan for higher achievement.

To help you reach your personal academic goals, (whether it be pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trig, pre-Calculus or Calculus, SAT, and/or the ACT test preparation, or may be GRE preparation for an older audience) I will find your weak topics and help you understand it fully. For that, I analyze your previous work and we discuss what you did and why. I will help you to see the logic in the solution and understand the relationship between concepts. Between sessions, I will happily answer short questions off the clock by email, or Skype.
For the SAT/ACT test takers my plan is usually for a student to take the practice test at home or school, then grade it and come back to me with the results. We will diagnose your problems (as in “didn’t have enough time”, “don’t know how to approach a problem like this”, “didn’t read the problem carefully”, “made a calculation error”, “didn’t know the definition” and so on) and work ...

“Make the most of yourself for that is all there is of you.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
I want to tap into that part of you that is on the prowl to answer the “ how’s and why’s”. That is where our journey will unfold. I aspire to nurture a creative and inclusive culture in my sessions.
I don't teach. I LEARN! Learning is an infinitely satiating experience for me. We will laugh, ponder, explore and even pull our hair out from frustration. That's okay because we'll do it all together. Making mistakes is a beautiful test of your resilience and will help to solidify your competencies from your hands-on experiences.
Visualizing your goals as a whole is the basis of my teaching approach. I implore my resources to reconcile the challenges of online learning to foster communication, inclusion, and interaction online. I aspire to forge a rappo
rt that grants your trust and belief in your ability to express your ideas. It is always a bit sad to say goodbye to students, but them walking away with strong foundations, developed skill sets and the ability to expand on them in the future is what I support.
I’ve logged 1,000 hours online in 1-on-1 group sessions with a 9.65 average rating. For my consistency, I was selected to teach the Oxford University Press Children Series. Being inspired by and delighting in shared experiences with my students ignites my addiction to teaching.
I’ve seized volunteer opportunities as a Teaching Assistant with after-school, summer and other teaching programs. I’m a big believer in being proactive. In addition, 8 years in Home Health with adults and children with physical and mental disabilities has had an overwhelming influence on my philosophies toward communication and personal kinships.
Music is an immense passion of mine that continually lavishes me with a wealth of transferable skills to explore creative solutions. I’ve done this by appropriating IPA, vocal pedagogy and my opera background to tackle diction issues. Working with Music and Drama Therapists in Barrier Free Theater acting troupe for adults with physical and mental disabilities to brainstorm and stage a musical starring them, has given me insight into the benefits of group collaboration and preparedness. This is at the heart of my communicative approaches.

I took lessons with Rahny last year. She helped me to refine my essay writing skills. I had never written an essay before. I’d never had a portfolio before either, but it has come in handy in more ways than I ever could’ve imagined. I’ve referenced the materials on vocabulary, pronunciation and essay writing exercises a dozen times. She still takes the time to answer some of my questions.

Thanks for all your patience even though I was running late. I was all ready to cancel my lesson, but you encouraged me to keep my goals in mind and keep moving forward. I loved that you adjusted the material accordingly and worked through the homework together with me. I look forward to our next session. :)

Rahny is very interesting in her approach. It is great how she goes about sharing ideas, extending the discussion and engaging with me and the content. She brings so much liveliness to the class. The texts are very good, practical and related directly to my goals of wanting better communication with my colleagues.

Yoichi's first review left for Gina: Thank you, Gina! I enjoyed talking with you very much. I was a little nervous before my first web lesson started, but you were so friendly and kind that I felt relaxed. You gave good advice. I'll try to learn hard by next time!
Now over 2 years and 100 classes later, the reviews are still great, though more technical... Great lesson! Thank you, Gina! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the speeches! I forgot to ask which is correct, the position of "[...]", which means omission, right after the sentence as in S. Thurlow's transcript, or right before the sentence as in E. Roosevelt' transcript?
April 18, 2019
Gina has the rare talent to be an excellent listener which is as much important, in conversation, as to ask challenging questions to keep the student always engaged. The lesson flew and I am looking forward to our next hour!

Great! I really liked the way Gina drives the classes and all the suggestions she made to improve my English. Definitely, I will schedule other lessons.
"We originally solicited Rod's support in order to help get our 8th grade daughter up to speed in math class. With high school rapidly approaching, we want
ed to ensure that her footing was solid for the rigors of the high school curriculum. As the New York State testing approached, we asked Rod to take some time in the weekly sessions to work on test-taking skills and to do a bit of brushing up on skills that my daughter may run into trouble with. I had my daughter take last year's 8th grade state test (which I found a copy of online), and asked Rod to review her work and help address the learning gaps. Rod's approach was to help my daughter recognize that she actually did know how to do many of the questions that she answered correctly, and with helping her reframe some of the questions, she was able to recognize that the test was not in fact, blind siding her which did wonders for her confidence. Rod spent ample time discussion stress reduction techniques, both before and after the test. As an incredibly supportive gesture, he followed up with us after each of the test days in order to inquire as to how she did, and show she was feeling overall. Rod's contribution definitely helped alleviate her anxiety and bolstered her confidence. By the end of the test she felt confident that she had performed to the best of her ability."
"I know Mojy ( Ms. Mozhgan Hudiburgh) since she was working for DLI as a Senior Farsi Instructor and Curriculum developer. I was her student in 2007 and 20
08. I happened to see her profile online today, so I decided to give her my feedback. She is AWESOME. You will have learning with fun, if you are Mojy's student. I am glad to have found her online and I am planning to take some classes with this passionate and successful teacher to refresh my Farsi. Hey, about the Background Check, Dont even worry! She has Secret Clearance. and maybe higher, now."
"Daniel was able to help me quickly with a job assessment and reviewed the general topics with me. He was very communicative. I'd highly recommend!"
"Mojy is very knowledgeable and passionate about the Persian Languages and teaching/ testing . She is very positive and wouldn't let you go to the next ste
p before she makes sure you have learned what you need with fun and enthusiasm. She is very educated and learned about both Persian language and culture. She has a great understanding of the students' needs. She is great at Mock tests to make you really prepared for your test. Thanks Mojy!"
"Had an amazing experience with Mojy! She makes the learning experience not just about the language, but also about the culture! She made the process enjoy
able and comfortable. Great Teacher, Great and open-minded Person."
"Mojy deserves the 5 stars and even more! Great instructor and Test prep, very pleasant and understanding. Recommend to all, learned a lot from her session
s and I will continue more!"
"Mojy is a great gift from God, in my opinion. She knows 6 languages fluently, including Arabic, Persian,Farsi, Dari, Tajik, Afghani and English, and maybe
more... I have no doubt that she knows more. I learned Basic Arabic from her with fun and her great attitude. She gave me wonderful tips about how to learn Arabic easily. She is very sweet, intelligent, knowledgeable, fair, enthusiastic, honest, and super helpful. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT BACKGROUND CHECK. She carries a TSSC with Full Scope Polygraph. What more do want!!! I agree with other reviews: You are lucky, if you have Mojy ( Ms Hudiburgh) for your instructor. Go Mojy! :)"
"Always on time. He gets very invested in his students so always do your assignments on time. Other than that he explains step by step in a very easy way."
"You cannot find better instructor than Mojy. She is incredible."
