This became very apparent when I approached her to help me in what I felt would be a near impossible task: to learn a semester's worth of Ancient Greek in one month, starting from scratch.
Her clarity of explanation, her command of the material, and her professionalism as a tutor and teacher all made that possible, to the point where when I actually showed up to class, I actually found myself ahead of where everybody else was. I had mastered the material so well thanks to her efforts, that on the first test, I achieved a 104% (even got the extra credit mark), much to the impressed amazement of my new professor.
So when I give her this solid review of her skills, it is not to her as a tutor, or even a teacher. It is to her as a professional. Which is what she is in every sense of the word, as an educator, an admirer, and a bonafide inhabitant of the world of classical languages.

About Ben U.
CloseI have a BA in Latin and Greek. It is true that these languages are “dead” and can be difficult to learn, but they are still useful in the modern world. An intensive study of Latin, for instance, provides a fundamental understanding of the language through the explanation of many grammar topics. This results in a fuller understanding of English grammar and vocabulary. It is good to develop the discipline required to learn Latin in high school and beyond.
In addition to tutoring, I teach Latin from scratch. I have typed up a series of Latin Outlines based on college course material. Outlines are divided into three sections: Grammar, Vocabulary, and Exercises.
About Ben
Welcome to my studio, where I will instruct you in your musical and academic endeavors. What sets me apart is that I offer diverse instruction in two different areas. In my music studio, I give lessons in piano, violin, guitar, and composition. In my tutoring center, I specialize in Latin (learning from scratch and tutoring). I instruct students of all ages at different skill levels.
My in-studio lessons are given on a grand piano.

Accomplishments
As a high school senior, under the tutelage of OSU Profess
I performed different self-composed pieces at seven OSU Composers' Workshops and won the Audience Favorite Award at the Johnstone Woodwinds Composition Competition in 2012. My Senior Composition Recital was performed on October 25, 2012. It showcased several of my three-movement works: string quartet, clarinet solo, set of classical songs for piano and voice, set of pop songs for piano and voice. Interspersed with these were two solo piano pieces and a duet for piano and violin.
My background makes me a knowledgeable and effective tutor. I was valedictorian at Delaware Hayes High School in 2009 and received OSU's Maximus Scholarship based on my ACT and SAT scores.

I have been studying Latin since 2005, and I have been teaching it since 2011. Many approach Latin with great apprehension, having heard that it's an almost impossible language to learn. For that reason, I know that students who choose to learn Latin most often do so with a specific goal in mind. I believe my job is to show you that Latin is not impossible and your goal is achievable. If you're simply curious about the language, that's great too. I love curiosity, and I look forward to helping you satisfy yours! I approach every student as an individual, so my teaching style will be personalized to meet your needs. I look forward to helping you succeed with Latin!

One of the best decisions I have ever made was to learn Latin. Once I knew Latin, my English and Italian improved immensely, and I was able to pick up French, Spanish, and even Greek and Russian thanks to the doors that Latin opened for me.
Thanks to my artist father who adores Italian and Roman civilization, after becoming fluent in Italian I was inspired to become conversant in Latin. I discovered there are a few hundred thousand fluent Latin speakers in the world, and many convene regularly to practice their skills in order to appreciate some of the most important literature and history that exists.
I found the best resources to teach myself Latin, and I cannot wait to make those available to you as well. I used to teach Latin at Moravian Academy in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and I have also tutored several dozen students one-on-one.
About Luke
Foreign languages are among my favorites, and I have specialized in teaching Latin, Italian, and Japanese. As a geologist, I am also profoundly interested in the sciences. When I teach I like to understand where my students are coming from, what really inspires them, and help them to enjoy and love what they want to learn. For me, learning is always fun, so whether you like to study or you are having trouble motivating yourself to concentrate, together we will discover the joy and fun in what you are studying.

Luke is a knowledgable polyglot. He is very patient and teach me step by step. The teaching style is super logic. I learned a lot from him. And I just came to U.S. My English is not so good. But Luke could teach me Spanish very well. I will continue to learn with Luke.
Such an amazing teacher!

I have tutored Latin for several years and received awards for my own proficiency. I began to learn Latin in middle school, and I was even a member of the Junior Classical League. In College, while I pursued my degree in Humanities and Cultural Studies, I took every Latin education opportunity available to me, including supervised reading and translation work in my undergraduate thesis. I have fulfilled courses through Medieval Latin, which was at the graduate school level. I received an award in Latin Excellence this past Winter semester, at my graduate school.

Latin provides a window not only at one of the greatest civilizations of all time, but also the entire Western intellectual world – including religion and science – until the nineteenth century. Latin is also a great place to talk about the history of English, and languages and grammar generally.
I began studying Ancient Greek at age 4 and Latin at 10. I continued to study through the college level, when I also began to study linguistics formally, earning a Bachelor's degree in the subject. Because of my background, I can teach Latin not just by having you memorize arbitrary "rules" but using approaches based on intuition, fascinating facts about other languages, and the history of our own language. In grad school I took courses in medieval and renaissance Latin, and I enjoy teaching about those forms of the language as well.
I use Wheelock's Latin as a beginning and intermediate textbook. Beginning at the late beginning and intermediate level, I tailor my materials based on ...
About Micah
What I especially love, however, is making connections with the music you or I enjoy. When I teach music theory, I always try to bring the focus back to that spark that makes the music so exciting in the first place. I also study folk music, and teach fiddle – I love that music like this is able to connect with so many people in ways that extend beyond the concert hall, and most of all let everyone have fun!
