Sarah will work with students to create and follow a plan of study to enrich what students are learning in school. Sarah also teaches the language to beginners who are not already taking the subject at school, or who would like to get a head start before their course begins.
Sarah works with Jenney's Latin textbooks as well as any other textbooks used in the student's class. Particular attention is paid toward grammar and developing a reliable method of translation.
Sarah majored in The Classics (Greek and Latin language and literature) at Harvard. Her favorite poet is Ovid.
Sarah has been working as a private college counselor and academic and test prep tutor since 2010. She is available to teach at your home, online, or at the Brooklyn Public Library.
Sarah received her BA in Classics (Greek and Latin Language and Literature) from Harvard University. She received her MA in Advanced Theatre Practice from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama in England. She currently teaches at Time In Children's Art Initiative and is a founding member of The Sun Apparatus Theatre Company.
Sarah is passionate about teaching others how to navigate the complex and challenging college application process, from SATs to application essays to college selection and beyond. Sarah is an incredible teacher! She is extremely patient, smart, and is able to simplify the problems so they become more manageable. I worked with her for a few months in preparation for the GRE. She is very knowledgeable and hardworking. She went above and beyond and fully supported me to be successful in my studies and most importantly motivated me and did not allow me to give up on myself. I felt lucky to have found a tutor who was able to explain the problems and help me develop key strategies to excel in my studies. I highly recommend Sarah.

Sarah is kind, considerate, and knowledgeable. Great teacher. I could not recommend her more.
I teach Latin of all levels, whether from scratch or to help you in your classes. I tailor all my lessons to your needs, whether you want to ask me questions or would like to revisit lessons, whether you would like to speak Latin or would like to get ahead!
My name is Jenni and I am a professional Latin and Greek teacher with over ten years of experience teaching and tutoring both Latin and Ancient Greek. I have taught professionally at the elementary, junior high, and graduate levels and I hold a Master’s degree in Classical Philology. I currently work at the Polis Institute, where I teach Greek and Latin as living languages to graduate students.
I also have familiarity with spoken Latin and Ancient Greek, and I teach all of my professional courses in a 100% immersion setting. My passion is to show every interested student that they have the capability to master these languages.
With my help, the complicated aspects of these languages will become clear to you, as I help my students learn tools and strategies that they will keep with them in the classroom and out – all in a fun and fr
iendly tutoring environment.
With specifically tailored instruction, either as a supplement to current courses or an education ab initio (i.e. from the beginning), I will work with you to help you access the beautiful literature, history and music of the languages of the Ancient World.
I have a BA in Latin and Greek. It is true that these languages are “dead” and can be difficult to learn, but they are still useful in the modern world. An intensive study of Latin, for instance, provides a fundamental understanding of the language through the explanation of many grammar topics. This results in a fuller understanding of English grammar and vocabulary. It is good to develop the discipline required to learn Latin in high school and beyond.
In addition to tutoring, I teach Latin from scratch. I have typed up a series of Latin Outlines based on college course material. Outlines are divided into three sections: Grammar, Vocabulary, and Exercises.
Music Lessons & Tutoring
Welcome to my studio, where I will instruct you in your musical and academic endeavors. What sets me apart is that I offer diverse instruction in two different areas. In my music studio, I give lessons in piano, violin, guitar, and composition. In my tutoring center, I specialize in Latin (learning from scratch and tutoring). I instruct students of all ages at different skill levels.
My in-studio lessons are given on a grand piano.
BM Music Composition -- Ohio State University, Autumn 2012 BA Classics (Greek and Latin) -- Ohio State University, Autumn 2012 Classics Fellowship -- Indiana University, 2013-2014 Piano Training: Collegiate lessons from Steven Glaser and private lessons from George Haddad
As a high school senior, under the tutelage of OSU Profess
or Emeritus and world-renowned pianist George Haddad, I performed the first movement of Shostakovich's Second Piano Concerto with the chamber orchestra.
I performed different self-composed pieces at seven OSU Composers' Workshops and won the Audience Favorite Award at the Johnstone Woodwinds Composition Competition in 2012. My Senior Composition Recital was performed on October 25, 2012. It showcased several of my three-movement works: string quartet, clarinet solo, set of classical songs for piano and voice, set of pop songs for piano and voice. Interspersed with these were two solo piano pieces and a duet for piano and violin.
My background makes me a knowledgeable and effective tutor. I was valedictorian at Delaware Hayes High School in 2009 and received OSU's Maximus Scholarship based on my ACT and SAT scores.
Latin made fun for easy learning. Games and quizzes for younger students to improve memorization of vocabulary, conjugations and declensions.
Learning while having fun is guaranteed. I enjoy working with students of all ages and from all countries. Eacvh of you is special and deserves a special curriculum and lesson plan. Talk with you soon. I look forward to meeting you.

Susan is a wonderful French teacher both for adults and kids. We have had her as an in-home teacher for both over the past few years during the school year. She is very patient with the kids and keeps it fun for them, and also is a great conversationalist with the adults. I can’t recommend her enough. She is also versatile enough to teach German as well.
I have tutored Latin for several years and received awards for my own proficiency. I began to learn Latin in middle school, and I was even a member of the Junior Classical League. In College, while I pursued my degree in Humanities and Cultural Studies, I took every Latin education opportunity available to me, including supervised reading and translation work in my undergraduate thesis. I have fulfilled courses through Medieval Latin, which was at the graduate school level. I received an award in Latin Excellence this past Winter semester, at my graduate school.
I have been teaching for 5 years. I have been blessed with a talent for language and its related areas. This is both my gift and my passion. I have spent years honing and sharpening my skills in both English and Latin. This has created in me a desire to share this knowledge through teaching. I have found I do this best online. I can reach a wide group and have diversity in both students and approaches.
I am a University of Virginia graduate looking to share my knowledge and experience to elementary, high school, and college age students. I am skilled at tutoring students in academic and creative subjects. I have much experience with piano and art and my excellent academic achievement in high school and college allows me to teach subjects like Latin, English, Writing, and general Study Skills or Test Prep. I am a very organized person and in teaching I make sure my students receive an organized and thorough understanding of the subject. I also bring an enthusiasm to my teaching as I am passionate about helping others learn and grow!
"I have been taking Latin lessons with Ben for some time and am very pleased with his method. I have never studied Latin before, so we began from scratch,
using a lesson plan built by Ben with the help of college-level textbooks. Ben has been very diligent and disciplined in building demanding but realistic lesson plans every week, as well as in creating thorough and helpful practice exercises. On top of this Ben is a polite, pleasant and accommodating fellow, open to questions and suggestions. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to study Latin."
"Good teacher, did not get off topic. Taught me words that I didn't really know. Looking forward to my next class. (Elijah B.)"
"Jonathan is very nice and gives me a head start on the things I need to know. I wanted to study Latin because I want to keep up my Latin from my old schoo
l in Louisville. I have made the right choice. He's a great instructor."
"My 12 year old son was hesitant to have Latin lessons based on the experience he had in a classroom setting. He just had his first lesson and immediately
told me afterward, "I learned more from Jonathan than I did all year in class." He seemed to really connect with Jonathan and is actually looking forward to his next lesson."
"Jenni is simply the best. My son was struggling with Latin last year and I found Jenni online and she was able to catch him up on what he missed in order
for him to start the year on a positive note. This year is going well for him . I am happy to report he received his first test grade this year and scored a 35.5/40.
He has now enjoying Latin!"
"Mr. Hills was a very memorable teacher. He was always friendly and easy to have as a teacher, since he was never averse to taking the lesson in a new dire
ction if he found that the class was interested in a specific part. Of course, he also kept us on track and made sure we learned the necessary curriculum as well. His tests and quizzes were frequent, and varied in difficulty so that you were never stressed about one but made sure to review the material for it. He did a great job teaching an AP Latin course in a school where Latin isn't always treated very seriously, and improved the student culture around it as well by founding the Latin Club. Mr. Hills was a great teacher, and I'm sorry he had to leave Summit High so soon."
"Terrific teacher! Has been tutoring Latin for my son for a few years & it's been great! Helped improve his SAT/ACT score & instilled a love of language in
my son that he didn't have before. Highly recommend Ben!"
"Jenni is absolutely amazing. She’s been providing additional, complimentary instruction once a week for my son who is entering 3rd-year Honors Latin. La
nguage is not his strongest point and he’s periodically struggled with aspects of learning Latin along the way. We needed an expert’s assistance to achieve the academic success I expect from him! Jenni’s personable, caring, and patient manner of education, keen sense of direction, and technical and historical acuity, has made a profound impact on my son’s competency and confidence."
"Jenni was extremely flexible and easy to talk to in Latin. She's a really great teacher and it was my pleasure to have been tutored by her."
