I have been sewing for over 30 years and teaching for over 13 years. I am a Fashion Design graduate (FIDM) and can teach sewing, sewing machine care and basics, fabric cutting, using a pattern, pattern alterations, or pattern drafting, and draping.

I can also teach how to choose the proper fabric for your projects, and the different finishing techniques for hems.

I can customize the class to your needs and interests. I can teach you the making of garments, costumes, or home decoration items, or garment alterations.

It's up to you! I can't wait to teach you how to be proficient with your machine, and hand sewing.

About Marie
I have worked in Animation for over 20 years, from traditional 2D animation to computer, initially in Canada, in Montreal, more precisely. In '97, I was hired by the Walt Disney Animation Studio to train their animators on the computer. I taught computer animation software, mainly Maya, and Photoshop to hundreds of talented artists here in Burbank. I was also creating and writing teaching materials, so I am well versed in Word, and Illustrator.

My other passion is Fashion Design. I am a Fashion Design graduate from FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising). I studied Fashion so I could make my own patterns. I have been sewing for over 30 years and just love creating clothing or costumes for my children and I, with commercial patterns or my own patterns. I am pretty crafty, really good at modifying patterns, and I have a grea
t knowledge of fabrics. I love fashion illustration and the whole process of creating a line.

I really enjoy teaching, and after years of teaching animation software, I craved teaching something more hands-on, and I have been enjoying teaching sewing and fashion design. It is rewarding to pass on a skill that used to be taught from generation to generation, but that less and less people are learning nowadays.

Whether it is for a hobby, to decorate your house, to prepare for design school, or to make your own clothes, I can teach you from the very basic sewing skills, to more advance topics such as modifying your patterns to make clothes that fit.

Marie was an amazing teacher! Besides the fact that we got to speak in French, her instruction was easy to follow and her breadth of knowledge was apparent. i wasnt her student for an extremely long period (as my work schedule got very hectic) but I'd go back no questions. 5 stars. thanks Marie!

Students can expect a Systematic Approach to Sewing, what I fondly call the SASsy way. We will start with foundational topics like the Anatomy of the Sewing Machine, building on that foundation one skill at a time. I've learned that remaining motivated to sew often holds people back so I will also teach you how to plan out projects and how to build a sewing habit that helps you see consistent results and keeps you motivated to sew!

About Timpla
Hello! You want to learn to sew? I'm Timpla and I can help you!

FEEDBACK FROM MY PREVIOUS STUDENTS:

"It was great! I learned so much about my sewing machine."

"Had a great time Timpla! I was able to hem my daughter's skirt and repair a shirt sleeve. Looking forward to next time."

"I definitely benefited from the class! Thanks so much!!!"

I LOVE helping my students conquer their "fear" of the sewing machine, which unleashes excitement about their potential to sew unique items for themselves and others.

I've been sewing since I was a young girl, learning from my grandmother.

My experience includes sewing women's and girl's apparel, home decor, and quilts. I decided to start teaching private and group lessons after receiving many requests from friends and acquaintances.

I look forward to helping you develop the
skills you need to tackle any sewing project.

Complete misunderstanding on the 24th with the scheduling and payment. Jennifer called and all was worked out. She was more than happy to help my granddaughter on her design project. My granddaughter learned so much in a hour and Jennifer helped her to start her project. Jennifer scheduled a time on the 25th to help my granddaughter.

May I begin by saying and lessons can include parent and child for the price of one.
My background includes a BA in Fashion Design, specializing in couture and beadwork. I began shipping thrift stores in the early 70s and tweaking my funds.
I have been pressed to find sewing courses or TV shows that cater to anyone interested in high fashion, modern style or current trends.
I also spent many years in the interior design business in San Diego, San Francisco and NYC specializing in slipcovers, upholstery and soft furnishings as well as carpentry.
Whatever your passion in reference to textiles be it fine handwork, tailored pieces, repurposed, vintage, funky or select items for the home, I can guide you through it and help
You put your own style and personal stamp on your work.

About Leslie
Inspired by hours paging through the French Vogue with my grandmother who would read the text for me and tell me about all the designers and what made each of them special, I set my sights on Fashion Design at the age of 9. I studied sewing throughout high school and then went on to get a degree in Clothing/Costume design at Brooks College of Design in Los Angeles and apprenticed under the beading master to Hollywoods Costumers (Bob Mackie, Nolan Miller) and learned a rare and dying art of French Embroidery beadwork.
After years working for designers making everything from leather/suede beaded evening gowns for the Country Music Awards to wedding dresses I slowly became more interested in Interiors and soft furnishings. I became a subcontractor for Interior Designers in San Diego and later San Francisco and continued such work in New Yor
k. Later I added carpentry to my list of skills and became a Green remodeler until the Crash.
Today I most enjoy being free to follow my whims. I like to refurbish old furniture, upholster, slipcover and also do the same with clothing. I love vintage and vintage inspired clothes as well as anything finely made. I imagined being a couturier and costume designer for Broadway, but alas I am a humble artisan in my free time only.
I am not a quilter or crafter, but I can do it if required. I prefer detailed handwork, funnily, whimsical or high fashion sewing.
I enjoy helping people with beginning to advanced projects and can bring the classroom to you.
