This became very apparent when I approached her to help me in what I felt would be a near impossible task: to learn a semester's worth of Ancient Greek in one month, starting from scratch.
Her clarity of explanation, her command of the material, and her professionalism as a tutor and teacher all made that possible, to the point where when I actually showed up to class, I actually found myself ahead of where everybody else was. I had mastered the material so well thanks to her efforts, that on the first test, I achieved a 104% (even got the extra credit mark), much to the impressed amazement of my new professor.
So when I give her this solid review of her skills, it is not to her as a tutor, or even a teacher. It is to her as a professional. Which is what she is in every sense of the word, as an educator, an admirer, and a bonafide inhabitant of the world of classical languages.

About Ben U.
CloseI have a BA in Latin and Greek. It is true that these languages are “dead” and can be difficult to learn, but they are still useful in the modern world. An intensive study of Latin, for instance, provides a fundamental understanding of the language through the explanation of many grammar topics. This results in a fuller understanding of English grammar and vocabulary. It is good to develop the discipline required to learn Latin in high school and beyond.
In addition to tutoring, I teach Latin from scratch. I have typed up a series of Latin Outlines based on college course material. Outlines are divided into three sections: Grammar, Vocabulary, and Exercises.
About Ben
Welcome to my studio, where I will instruct you in your musical and academic endeavors. What sets me apart is that I offer diverse instruction in two different areas. In my music studio, I give lessons in piano, violin, guitar, and composition. In my tutoring center, I specialize in Latin (learning from scratch and tutoring). I instruct students of all ages at different skill levels.
My in-studio lessons are given on a grand piano.

Accomplishments
As a high school senior, under the tutelage of OSU Profess
I performed different self-composed pieces at seven OSU Composers' Workshops and won the Audience Favorite Award at the Johnstone Woodwinds Composition Competition in 2012. My Senior Composition Recital was performed on October 25, 2012. It showcased several of my three-movement works: string quartet, clarinet solo, set of classical songs for piano and voice, set of pop songs for piano and voice. Interspersed with these were two solo piano pieces and a duet for piano and violin.
My background makes me a knowledgeable and effective tutor. I was valedictorian at Delaware Hayes High School in 2009 and received OSU's Maximus Scholarship based on my ACT and SAT scores.

I graduated from Tulane University magna cum laude in Greek and Philosophy. I won the university's oldest prize – the Judah Touro Medal, established in 1856, for excellence in the ancient languages. From there I moved on to an M.A. program at The University of Chicago. Declared a master I now hold a slot as a doctoral candidate in both classics and philosophy at Cornell University. I have read many authors in Greek with a view to grammar, style, word order, vocabulary, syntax, dialect, and related philologically significant items. Of the poets I've read Aeschylus, Euripides, Sophocles, Homer, Hesiod, Apollonius, Pindar, Aristophanes, and others. Of the prose writers I've read Thucydides, Herodotus, Aristotle, Plato, Epictetus, Plutarch, Diogenes Laertius, and others. I also tutor all levels of Latin - elementary, middle school, high school, college, graduate school, etc. I tutor for the AP, the SAT II, and other standardized tests for Latin. Do you wonder where words come from? Do you want to learn not only a language but also how language works? Latin is the best way to learn! Learning a language is easiest by reading, hearing, and speaking it, so that's exactly what we'll do. Latin has been called a "hard" language because people like to think it's different - but it's still just a language. I have my Bachelors in Latin Literature and have taught Latin in Middle and High schools for years and I will make sure you benefit from my experiences. So let's get reading!
