About Timpla
Hello! You want to learn to sew? I'm Timpla and I can help you!

FEEDBACK FROM MY PREVIOUS STUDENTS:

"It was great! I learned so much about my sewing machine."

"Had a great time Timpla! I was able to hem my daughter's skirt and repair a shirt sleeve. Looking forward to next time."

"I definitely benefited from the class! Thanks so much!!!"

I LOVE helping my students conquer their "fear" of the sewing machine, which unleashes excitement about their potential to sew unique items for themselves and others.

I've been sewing since I was a young girl, learning from my grandmother.

My experience includes sewing women's and girl's apparel, home decor, and quilts. I decided to start teaching private and group lessons after receiving many requests from friends and acquaintances.

I look forward to helping you develop the
skills you need to tackle any sewing project.

About Sharron
My resume includes graduating from the Baltimore School for the Arts and continued studies at the Maryland Institute College of Art until I decided I didn’t want to be a “Starving Artist”. So, I graduated from the University of Baltimore with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Business Administration with a minor in Human Resources Management. My education also includes 27 graduate credits that were leading to a Master’s in Public Administration when I decided to discontinue that path. After twenty-five years in the public sector, I decided to revisit my passion for art in my spare time. As a youngster, I remember wanting to teach art in schools, but I did not want the restrictions that are present in the classrooms and more so today. All forms of art is a freeing practice that is practiced and developed over time. For mor information, web

Donna was very personable and nice. I learned a lot from her and she made sewing less awkward for me. I went home immediately and tried my new techniques. I was able to complete another project from what I learned earlier that day. Donna’s great!

About Barbara
I was born in British Columbia, Canada, but grew up here in the beautiful Puget Sound area of Washington. Sewing and fabrics were very much a part of my life for as long as I can remember! My beloved grandmother was an excellent seamstress, and I can remember the lovely garments she made. Her hands were always busy and she helped support her family of 10 children in Canada with her sewing during the Great Depression. One of my most cherished pieces of furniture is her old Singer treadle sewing machine. My grandmother's sewing talents were passed to my mother, who also made beautiful clothes for me as I grew up. I can remember endless shopping trips to the fabric stores where I was fascinated by all the colors and textures!

Eventually I began sewing my own clothing, and after I was married I worked for a time at the upscale Designe
r's Fabric store in Bellevue, WA. When my daughter was born, I found myself sewing dresses and doll clothing for her, just as my mother and grandmother had done for me. Sewing for children was so enjoyable that my mother and I opened a business called RuBarb Creations, where we made custom clothing for children. In 1995 I became the costume director for a private school. During the next nine years I costumed over 24 plays, including 7 major Shakespeare productions and 6 high school musicals.

For over 20 years I was a piano instructor, having taught many children to enjoy playing the piano. My love of teaching and working with kids, and my passion for sewing and the fabric arts led me to finally fulfill my dream of opening a sewing school, where I have taught for over 6 years. I have an Associate of Arts Degree from Northwest University and a BA degree in English/Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University.

My goal is to pass on the joy of sewing, so that others can be encouraged to explore the wonderful creative world of sewing! I hope to enrich lives, giving my students confidence, a sense of accomplishment, and a life-long skill that is slowly leaving our culture. In turn, I hope to inspire others to share their talents with those in the world around us.

About Chris
Experience Summary:

More than twenty years of tournament experience; tournament wins; wins against master (2300) players. Three years teaching experience, including online and in person lessons for both children and adults. Presented lectures at the Texas Tech Knight Raiders chess club on tactics and combinations.

Teaching Style:

My teaching style is progressive and tailored to the individual student. Each lesson builds on what was learned before. We go over games that the student has played, especially losses to higher rated players. For beginning players and juniors I teach the fundamentals and build from there. Suggested books are Comprehensive Chess Course, for beginners, and Chess The Easy Way by Reuben Fine, for more advanced players.

Hobbies:

You have not entered any information here (but it's optional)

Other Comments:

For o
ne-on-one lessons, we meet weekly at a quiet place such as a bookstore or library. I also give lessons in the home. Lessons are one hour in length. Bring the game score of recent games for us to look at, if possible! I encourage students to play during the week and can give you info on local clubs and other places to play.
