Learn Chess from an effective teacher with 20+ years experience and have fun doing it!

I am an experienced and effective chess tutor with 20 plus years teaching background both in the classroom and online using the lichess platform. I have a USCF Rating of 2100 Which is Candidate Master and USCF Senior Master title at Correspondence Chess (slow chess). Most of my students are kids fairly new to chess but I would encourage adults who are on the fence about taking lessons to give it a try as they are probably underestimating their ability. I would recommend a 60 min lesson for students age 7 and older and a shorter lesson for younger kids. I can prepare lessons for both the casual player and someone playing in rated tournaments. I'll see you on the 64 squares!

About Peter M.

I have been a student of the game for over 30 years and enjoy passing the torch to another generation of chess players. I think that tutoring is symbiotic in that my students learn from me and I get the satisfaction of watching them improve and compete. I am a USCF Expert and Correspondence Senior Master with 20 plus years teaching experience with students of all ages. I have experience teaching in both public and private schools in addition to giving personal instruction. My students include the current NC K-1 Scholastic Third Place Champion. I enjoy teaching kids and adults, pushing them to focus and improve on a consistent basis. My background playing is mostly correspondence chess which leads me to focus on small details and slowing down the pace of the game. I think kids learning chess can greatly benefit from playing slowly and methodically considering candidate moves and then finally picking up a piece to move. I believe playing blitz chess should be extremely limited and bullet chess should be absolutely avoided at all costs. I try to encourage my students to ask questions. If they are asking questions then they are interacting and learning. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to schedule lessons and start to excel at chess!

Peter helped me surprise my husband with the chess lessons for Christmas . He looked at my husbands games and formulated a plan on what he needed guidance on. He is patient and put my husband at ease , so much that my husband looks forward to his lessons .

Peter was extremely diligent and involved even prior to starting my 7 year old son's class. He reached out in advance to determine my son's chess experience and level so that he could tailor the lesson. My son had a great time and wants to continue with Peter on his chess journey! Peter also reached out after the class with additional tips and advice
