I have 20 years of experience as a tutor. I have had my own private tutoring business. My area of expertise is math (basic arithmetic to“ pre-calculus); however, I have tutored in English (grammar and writing), Computer science (Word, Works, Windows OS, and other general computer problems), as well as other subjects. In addition, I also have 15 years of experience working with after school programs both as a tutor and as a recreational instructor. My recreational activities consisted of cheer leading, dance, computer science, graphic design, music (singing), and board games. I have worked with children of all ages.

As an bioengineer, calculus is the bedrock of much of the mathematics I use to solve physical problems in biomechanics and fluid mechanics. A rock-solid foundation in pre-calculus is imperative for a mastery of calculus. I have been successfully helping my students raise their grade in pre-calculus for the last four years. Hello there! My name is Colin, and I have four years of experience tutoring math and science. I am a PhD candidate in the UC Berkeley-UC San Fransisco joint bioengineering program. My strong background in STEM qualifies me to tutor math and science up through lower-division college courses. Aside from my academic qualifications, I believe that it is my genuine passion for math and science that makes me an effective tutor for students of all backgrounds.

As a tutor, my goal is not to impress students with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to show my students how easily math and science concepts can come to them when they are presented the material in a straightforward way. The late physicist, Richard Feynman, posited that the ability to explain complicated ideas in a simple manner is the true mark of understanding. I agree with this
assertion, and I make it my goal each tutoring session to explain even the most complex phenomena in a simple way, so that my student will come away from the lesson invariably understanding it. Additionally, I emphasize a strong understanding of the fundamentals, because both math and science are heavily inductive disciplines; many of the theorems and laws are founded on other, more fundamental principles. I have personally experienced the discouragement of trying to learn material that is beyond my preparedness level, and so I can empathize with students who are in that boat. Fortunately, I have learned that the remedy is always a return to, and a strengthening of the basics. That is the approach I take with students who find themselves struggling in a course.

My online teaching platform is a “black board” drawing program that my students can follow along with as I explain concepts and solve problems. I simply share my screen with them during the session, and at the end, I take a screenshot of the notes and email it to my students for their reference. I hope this brief explanation of my qualifications and teaching style has provided a clear image of what you can expect from me as your tutor. I am eager to hear from you and help you succeed in your academic goals!

Mr. Colin is an excellent tutor! He is the first tutor of many from whose teaching my AP Chemistry grades improved drastically. He is very easy going and also easy to talk to. If you don't understand something, he will try to explain it in as many ways possible; just make sure to stop and let him know that you didn't understand the concept. I am very satisfied with his teaching style and therefore plan to have more lessons with Mr. Colin in college chemistry classes. I would 100% recommend him to anyone!

Jordan was very patient and personable with my son's lesson. It was his first time learning to play his beginner acoustic guitar. Jordan began with the basics, explaining frets, chords, how to pick and precisely tune listening to an online tuner.

The tuning homework exercise was just right for his introduction. He brought along his electric guitar and explained things for us in a way that was easy to understand and pick up. He is looking forward to his lessons.

Precalculus is an important subject that allows a student to move to calculus. I help my students to make this transition as smooth as possible. We discuss not only different ways to solve problems but why we solve problems this way and why this way is working. It usually allows students to create a path to the solution even they don't remember how to solve this particular problem. My students not only improve the grades but what is even more important, they feel better about math in general.

Mathematics has been lost in translation in todays educational institution and this is obvious with new Common Core Strategies.

My experience has shown that when educating an individual, the less layers of complexity and the more pure conceptual math the better and more dynamic the understanding.

My lessons in all Mathematical courses include multiple perspective views of any topic, a visual, a auditory, and kinesthetic practice for finalization. This has been a successful practice in teaching all levels of educated individuals for the last 7+ years.

I would love to become involved and help strengthen the math skills of your high schooler! I am currently tutoring a number of high schoolers and have seen a huge boost in their confidence and abilities and would love to work with yours.  In addition to reinforcing the fundamentals, and dissecting advanced material so it is more easily understood, I plan to initially is to examine their thought process, and then deconstruct their approach so it becomes more systematic and methodical.  

 I had a near perfect SAT math score (780 when it was scored out of 800) and also attended UPenn. But most importantly I can get him/her to raise her math score! My general strategy is to identify the type of question (Alg, Trig, Geometry etc) s/he struggles with and to examine hish/er thought process tackling these questions. I have also counseled students and parents on college admissions process since I was a counselor for UPenn undergrads for graduate school admissions.

Hi! My name is Peter, and I'm a young musician living in Southside, Pittsburgh. I attended college at Georgetown University, where I majored in Mathematics and minored in Music. I spent 3 years working for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, teaching all levels of mathematics up through Ordinary Differential Equations and Linear Algebra. My focus within music while at school was in Classical theory and composition, but I'm really into jazz, rock and roll, and the blues. I currently have a daytime job relating to mathematics, but in my spare time I write, record, and perform music as often as possible.

I'm a professional, independent, highly experienced private teacher. I specialize in high-level academic tutoring and rigorous test preparation for high school, college, and graduate students.

I studied math, literature, and philosophy at MIT and Harvard, and I have a decade of professional teaching, tutoring, and mentoring experience in the Boston metro area -- and around the world by Skype. I've always been interested in both the sciences and the humanities, and I love sharing my passion for ideas. On the science side, I've worked in labs at NASA, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the McGovern Insitute for Brain Research, and MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. And on the humanities side, I was an editor at a political and literary magazine for four years; I've also edited three books published by MIT

"A rare gem.”
Matt is a rare gem in the tutoring world. He has an amazing style of teaching. He really goes in depth. My 11th grader son has a lot of respect for him. According to my son, "Matt is a genius". His logic and teaching style makes him stand out. Matt is not only great in mathematics, he is absolutely fantastic in english, reading, and writing. He loves to breakdown complex problems for his students to understand and also expects his students to ask him questions. Matt has helped my son in calculus, reading, and writing and my son has benefitted and enjoyed the lessons to the fullest. One thing that impressed me the most was that he does not need the answer keys to verify correct answers. He trusts his own reasoning in his explanations. But, there is one problem: once you hire him as a tutor, its hard to find another of equal caliber. Thanks to Matt, our son got into Cornell.

I never believed in tutoring, with the plethora of resources available online. But when I decided to test out of
a pre-calculus course in my sophomore year and take AP Calculus BC instead, my mother thought of finding
some help for me. After struggling for months to find a good tutor, she found Matt online, and his
biography looked impressive. In our first meet, Matt’s questions were very engaging and thought-provoking
and I realized, “This guy is a genius.”
Matt has helped me with math, reading, writing, and my college applications. He has also mentioned,
“Although I am not a physicist, I can read and explain AP Physics C if needed.” Matt is a master in logic and

About Andrew
I teach/tutor a myriad of topics and love doing it. I'm currently attending the Georgia Institute of Technology, studying aerospace engineering and computer science, so I love science and math (particularly when it has to do with space stuff). I'm super outgoing and a very laid back, chill person all at the same time (being like this has produced quite the stories). I also love food, a lot.

Working with others and helping them succeed has been something I've loved to do for a while now. While I was in high school, I was a coach for one of the local swim teams and had a blast getting to teach people how to swim and such, and the best part was getting to connect with those kids and seeing them succeed during the swim meets.

Once I graduated, I had the privilege to serve as a full time volunteer in Brazil for a couple years, where my
sole focus, every day, was to help others to improve the quality of their life. In doing so, I had the wonderful opportunity to meet new people everyday and see people's lives drastically improve. Another cool part of this experience was that I got to teach English as a second language to people who'd never spoken it before. They loved it, and in the time that I did teach it, students went from speaking no English to being able to form basic sentences and have simple conversations.

Now in college, I've strived to continue this pattern with the little free time that I get during the week and on the weekends due to my classes. Throughout all of this, I've discovered how easy it is for me to connect with people and how much fun it can be.

What I bring to the lessons:
I always ensure to provide the highest quality lessons and ensure that the student easily understands the materials. I'll provide materials that I know will assist the student to master the concepts.

My expectations:
Learning requires the student to put in effort. Any assignments I give, I will expect them to be completed. I understand that sometimes one of "those weeks" comes around where life hits us in the face, but it's not every week.

Your expectations:
You've come to me obviously to learn something new, and I intend to go above and beyond those expectations. I want the lessons to be more than just sit down, do the work, and then leave. That's not a great way to learn stuff, in my opinion. Expect to be brought out of your comfort zone a bit and experience things you never experienced before. Above all, expect to see these lessons as an enjoyable experience.
