My passion for music is the most pervasive quality of my personality. Consequently, passing that passion on to others is what brings me the most joy in life. My goal is to spread the love and appreciation for this unique and transcending art form through guidance, performance, and instruction. As my student, you will receive exactly what you (or your child) want out of the lessons-you are the one controlling what you want from them (be it any style of music, professional track or just for fun, music theory, and performance) and I am there to provide it. Music is nothing short of extremely fun and completely liberating.

I have always loved to sing and play guitar and piano starting from a young age, and I never gave up my determination and passion for perfor
ming. In middle and high school I did many musicals (Jekyll and Hyde, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oliver, Miss Saigon, Little Shop of Horrors, Footloose, Kiss Me Kate, and Cats) and sang in the choir (including the California All State Honor Choir and Jazz Choir). I played guitar in the school Jazz Band and participated in many jam sessions out of school. I also participated in many piano competitions, including ones for my own composition (I received an honorable mention for one of my own piano works). In college, I received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Redlands. I have recently completed my Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Redlands. I have performed many opera roles including Suor Angelica in Puccini's Suor Angelica, Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata, the Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute, and Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte, and Najade in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos. I was also in the University Chapel Singers Choir, Madrigals Choir, and Treblemakers a Capella Jazz choir. I currently reside in Germany where I am teaching online lessons to students all over the world, teaching English, and pursuing an opera career. So far I have sung the role of the Queen of the Night in Weimar, Germany and have done a few concerts singing Christine from the Phantom of the Opera.

"Hard work beats talent if talent does not work hard." This is my favorite quote. I truly believe that hard work will take you anywhere, no matter where your starting point is. With hard work and determination, you can be anything you want to be. With motivation, anyone can be a beautiful singer, guitarist, and pianist. If I did not believe this with all my heart, I would not be where I am today. To me, every student has great potential. It is my job and joy to bring out that potential and cultivate it into talent, love, and passion.

LESSON DETAILS

My lessons are fun and rewarding. I do not believe that a critical environment is one that is healthy or pleasant to learn in. Therefore, I am a very encouraging, patient, and supportive teacher, and I will praise you for your improvements, as well as help you correct your difficulties. I like to think of my lessons as a team effort, with more emphasis on working together and having fun. With that being said, I believe that you get what you put in out of our lessons. The more you practice and the more you show me determination and motivation, the more we can have fun, improve technique, and really make music in our lessons.

I customize each lesson to my student, so you tell me what you want to sing or play and what your goals as a musician are, and I will instruct you (or your child) in the exact way that fits your goals and interests. After a couple months with me, you will have a new found passion for music, knowledge of proper technique, reading and diction, and the skills to perform and communicate pieces of music. Most importantly, you will have the time of your life!

My voice lessons consist of vocal warm-ups where you learn proper technique and posture, breathing exercises to expand your diaphragm and support when you sing, and Repertoire work where you apply the technique you learned, practice performance skills, and learn diction of English, Italian, German, Hebrew, or French.

My guitar and piano lessons start with learning how to read music (if you do not know already) and being familiar with the keys or frets and the notes on the staff. Then we work on pieces of music, paying attention to the key factors of musicianship including rhythm, interpretation, dynamics, composition, musicality, and performance practice. My music theory lessons are based on whatever the student wants to learn or needs instruction on. I teach anywhere from basic music notation to advanced harmonic and formal analysis.

My speaking and lessons are similar to my voice lessons, minus the singing aspect-the same technique we use for singing is the technique we must use for speaking if we want to be heard, be healthy, and not get tired or worse - lose our voice. We work on breathing and projection techniques and then practice on a reading sample or presentation.

My acting lessons consist of different improv-acting games, projection techniques, and monologue and role studies. You will learn how to communicate a message to the audience clearly and effectively while having a wonderful time!

My language and tutoring classes are focused on fluency-getting comfortable speaking in the target language. We go through chapters of a lesson plan I created myself-learning vocabulary and grammar by learning the functions of them and completing speaking goals. After just a few lessons, you will find that you will be able to converse in your target language. Your individual pace is the most important to me, so we learn at the speed that you are the most comfortable with.

I'm a producer, instructor, singer songwriter, sound engineer, and composer residing in Brooklyn, New York. I have been a voice, acting, and teacher of creative arts for over 25 years. My background includes ten years of classical voice training with Maestro Julio Berrocal, as well as vocal training through the Feldenkrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting, I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. Voice
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the student's individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal technique exercises come next. When the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that students be a part of the process of picking material since the more personally they respond to the material the more apt they are to become engaged in their lessons. After three to six months beginning students will have gained an understanding of the fundamentals of breathing, relaxation, and basic performance skills. With more advanced students the focus will be on range extension and the on-going development of vocal style through song interpretation and performance related exercises.
Acting
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the most compelling.

Hi my name is Nicole; I have over 25 years of teaching experience. (I began teaching beginner students while I was in high school) and I myself began classical piano training at the age of 8 and continued through college. I also studied music theory, ear training and sight reading.
As a student, I participated in yearly NYSSMA competitions, performed in recitals and National Music Guild competitions as well. Following my passion made my decision to major in music the obvious choice. I wound up being the recipient of the first Ralph V. Ritchie Music Memorial Scholarship at Nassau Community College (which needless to say was a huge honor). I studied under Rose Tanner, who was a member of the Juliard faculty, performing many piano solo recitals as well as singing madrigals in a quartet. I truly loved what I was doing. I went on as a perfor
mance major at West Chester University in P.A. for three semesters and it was there that I realized that I wanted to teach piano. I've always been extremely creative and patient, so I thought teaching piano would be a perfect fit for me and it turned out that I was right! I also have had many other jobs working with children, such as being a camp counselor and a nanny for several different families and now I’m a mom as well ! I decided I wanted to write and perform my own music in an original band as well. So I decided to leave West Chester and began several of my own original musical projects and solo performance acts. I've played the piano/keyboard, wrote music/lyrics, sang lead and backup vocals or did a combination of the above.
During this time I worked closely with other advanced teachers and musicians to gain other methods, styles and techniques of playing and teaching music. I found out very quickly that playing a keyboard while standing up is both stylistically and technically different then sitting at the piano,
I'm patient, creative, positive and fun to work with and I really enjoy teaching. I love working with children and I'm passionate about passing my love of music along to my students. I specialize in teaching classical piano to students of all ages, including extensive experience in teaching autistic, special-needs and disabled children.
Sensitive to individual needs and abilities, I prepare students with curriculum, lesson plans and weekly assignments on a one-on-one basis.
Curriculum may include technique, sight reading, theory, ear training, scales, NYSSMA and performance/recital preparation. Working with both students and their parents together we can determine individual goals for each student.

I always try to get a feeling from each individual student as to which series of beginner books will work best for them. Obviously if the student is more advanced (and already working on a specific piece) please bring that with you to the lesson. There are so many beginner books to start out with. I like to have a lesson book, a theory book and a technic book as well. Once the student has learned the basics, I like to occasionally let them choose a fun song (pop or rock) as a reward for working on the classical criteria that I prefer. I find it helps keep them motivated to plat their favorite songs to their friends and have some fun. (even though that would be work as well).

Tutoring Rate (IMPORTANT): I only do in-person tutoring because I believe effective learning is multi-dimensional and personal not flat and distant. I️ was connected to Rod through a tutoring agency. I️ contacted the agency because I️ recently graduated college and wanted to get into grad school but had not taken a math class since the 10th grade. The school I️ was applying to needed a minimum math score for the GRE, which I️ knew would be a enormous stretch for me. Additionally, I️ always had trouble with math and knew I️ would need a tutor to re-teach me everything I️ needed to know to get the score I️ wanted. Initially, the agency connected me to 3 different tutors who were all absolutely terrible! Sometimes they didn’t even know how to answer sample questions in the workbooks! Finally, I was connected to Rod. After our first meeting I️ knew he would be the one who would help me improve. After a month of intense work with him my GRE math scores actually improved a full 12 points! Beyond that, he literally taught me math in a way in which I️ actually understood it. Before I️ just thought I couldn’t learn, but now I’m confident that I️ actually retained everything and it even made sense! I’m so grateful to have met Rod because before him I️ truly felt hopeless. I️ would definitely recommend Rod to anyone who is looking to drastically improve their math skills. I initially reached out to Rod for Algebra 1 review because I felt that my daughter lacked a solid foundation in algebra. However, after a couple of sessions, we have decided to switch gears toward geometry with Rod’s recommendation. Throughout the geometry lessons, algebra practice was incorporated. I am happy that not only did Rod tailor his lessons to my daughter’s goals but also he gave her a lot of encouragement. My daughter found it extremely helpful that she got to explain and discuss with Rod, which made lessons interactive and real learning. Now going back to school, my daughter feels confident, thanks to Rod!

Rod worked with my daughter weekly for a couple of months leading up to the NYC state tests. With Rod's careful, concerted planning and diligence, my daughter's score went from 2.4 on the 7th grade Math state test, to a 2.8 in 8th grade, which equates to a move from below the 50th percentile, to between the 50th and 75th percentile. My daughter's in-school math instruction was chaotic and disjointed, and I attribute her improvement to Rod's intervention.

Shelley is by far the best voice teacher I have ever had. Within the short duration of time that I have worked with her, I have noticed that my voice has significantly changed (it feels and sounds better) after using her techniques. She knows what she’s talking about and offers substantial and specific criticism. She individualizes every student, in that she chooses repertoire that benefits a particular voice instead of assuming that every student has the same voice and strengths/weaknesses. This is a very important skill for a voice teacher to have. Shelley is also very good at time management within a lesson. Most importantly, she makes the experience fun! Shelley is amazing! All my old teachers always told me to breathe to release the tension in my voice, but Shelley taught me vocal warmups to ease the strain. I now can sing better and connect to lyrics.

I have been teaching and tutoring for over five years, and my goal is to help students gain understanding of the problems they solve: I do not teach them simply how to solve problems, but why those problems can be solved in those particular ways. I want to enable students to become problem solvers who think logically and creatively.

About Wes
I am trained in philosophy (B.A., University of North Texas, and M.A., Biola University) and have been teaching/tutoring for over five years in math, reading, writing, SAT/ACT, and critical thinking/problem solving. I have taught a wide range of ages, from elementary to graduate students, and in classrooms of 100+ students to one-on-one lessons. Ultimately, I love to learn and teach, and I have a passion for helping others achieve their goals.

My students can expect to learn to think well about the subject we study together. We will not simply pursue the knowledge of how to, for example, solve some math problem, but we will also seek to understand why we can solve it this or that way. So, we will pursue both knowledge and understanding. When students have understanding, they are much better prepared to apply what they have learned to oth

Wes is a very considerate tutor who will most certainly help you improve. He is always on time never missed a class and even spent some of his time in order for my son to understand the lesson. I higly recommend him he truly deserves the 5 stars. In a matter of a month he helped my son improve drastically in his SAT. In which helped him get accepted to a Univeristy. Thank you Wes
