I hold this course dear to me, as it --and amazing teachers!-- ignited my passion for the physical sciences. Just halfway through high school, I decided this was to be my path for university studies and didn't look back.

I loved this subject from the time it was formally introduced to me as a high school sophomore in general chemistry, from acids and bases to stoichiometry and molecular structures. I continued by taking AP Chemistry during 11th grade (Junior) year of HS and maintained the highest grade in my class. I received a 5 on my AP exam. I continued onto several semesters of university level Chemistry courses, into upper division Organic Chemistry.

I was a teaching assistant for General Chemistry during my second year at my university, and I have recently reviewed all of general chemistry for my MCAT. Although a bit heavier on math, the fundamental concepts of general chemistry can get you very high scores in class exams and the MCAT.

Besides being a Ph.D. candidate in Chemistry and a previous chemistry TA, I tutored Chem 1 students long before I went to grad school. I was actually a physics major then. Turns out that most of Chem 1 is actually quantum chemistry, a subject that is studied in depth in physics, is typically introduced to chemistry majors for the first time without any previous exposure. This leaves many Chem 1 students struggling to understand the subject matter and why it is important. For the entire foundation of chemistry lies on top of quantum mechanics. Although technically you could pass your organics classes and analytical classes without ever understanding quantum mechanics, but you're missing out on the fundamental concepts. And if you ever go further into chemistry, not understand the basics will hamper you from going into chemistry. My name is Junia. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Central Florida (UCF). In college, I was in the Dean’s and President lists. I also had an honor scholarship which shows that I am driven by success at high standards. I hold an Advanced National Tutor Certificate. I have tutored many students in math, ESOL, and science over the past 10 years across all age groups with a very high success rate. My goals as a tutor are to offer an excellent and targeted learning which addresses specific learning challenges that the student is currently facing, to equip students with exam preparation strategies, and help them learn techniques that enable them to achieve and succeed in their subjects.
