Piano lessons are so much fun! I incorporate a lot of fun into my lessons. Piano has lots of technical skills that you have to learn so you can build up dexterity, hand eye coordination, ability to use both hands while they are doing different movements at different times, reading multiple staves and more. I add lots of games with prizes for students who like incentives, my students choose lots of fun pieces to work on in addition to their technique pieces. Like my voice students I encourage my piano students to be open and honest with me about what music they want to learn, if they like games or worksheets to help them learn, what they want their lessons to look like and where they want to see themselves with piano.

My approach is fun, simple, and easy to understand. I focus on getting a strong foundation and excellent first experience with music. The child will be given a lesson and theory book to work from, but will also be encouraged to play music they personally like. This keeps the child motivated to play and adds an element of fun! These songs can then be used in our recitals, for auditions, or put in their personal repertoire book.

Really good music teachers who work well with students of various temperaments and abilities are difficult to come by. My goal is to instill a sense of music appreciation, while at the same time teaching students about the technical aspects of music. I feel qualified to teach music and to do so in a way that each student feels special, valued and encouraged. With my real world experience and unique style of teaching I believe I am an ideal musician to study with.

About Conrad

I was introduced to music early on by my parents, particularly my father who is a respectful painter. Being classically trained on the piano I started playing and writing songs at the tender age of seven. My early piano influences are Mozart, Beethoven and Gershwin amongst others. Growing up, I bec

I don't just teach students to read the notes and rhythms. Understanding theory, using technique, and creating from the inside out (internalize the meaning to produce sound) is necessary to really make music.

About Amy

I am passionate about music, playing the piano, and teaching. I currently study with a doctor of music in California, and I just completed a master's degree in church music. My goal is to give students all the tools they need to learn and understand music in a way that excites them to progress

Amy is an amazing teacher! I've studied piano under her both in person and online, and either way, she is excellent. She is always positive about what I can do, yet can point out ways to improve more. She listens to what I want to accomplish and finds various ways to incorporate what I want with what I need. She inspires me to want to do more than I thought I could do, and to always think bigger than the picture. My online piano lessons have become a highlight of my week, and something that I truly look forward to because I know that Amy will be excited to hear what I have worked on, and her enthusiasm further propels my motivation to excel.

"Pattricia has been great with my daughter. This is my daughter’s first time learning piano, and Pattricia makes it fun and is so encouraging. She takes a genuine interest in my daughter as a person, not just as a student. My daughter is 9 and has really enjoyed learning how to play. Pattricia gives her a combination of lessons she can do at her current level as well as stretching her skills. but she always reminds my daughter to have fun while she learns. We couldn’t ask for a better teacher for her first time experience! Thank you, Pattricia!!"

"David is an amazing teacher. He is very patient with the student's learning process while remaining encouraging. He gave me just the right amount of push to keep my skills improving. It can be very overwhelming for an adult to learn a new musical instrument (piano for me), but David's mastery of music coupled with his upbeat and joyful personality make the process really enjoyable. I highly recommend David to teach both adults and children. He teaches piano and guitar lessons to the two teenage children of a friend of mine, and they both love him."

"We are so thrilled that we found such an amazing piano teacher as Christina for our 12 year old son. I’ve observed Christian to be very patient and encouraging with him as he takes these beginner lessons. She has a gentle manner combined with level-appropriate expectations. Furthermore, Christina has been willing to work with us in regards to our schedule (we needed a teacher who could teach in our home) and our son just finished his fifth lesson and he loves it! Last but not least, he is excited to practice daily and looks forward to the next lesson."

Piano in the Piedmont: Piano Lessons in Winston Salem

By Robert R. - Winston Salem Piano Teacher

People all over the world love to play the piano. Studying piano at any age brings countless benefits and is a strong foundation for learning any other musical instrument or voice. If you’re looking to take piano lessons in Winston Salem, or anywhere within the Piedmont Triad in North Carolina, opportunities abound for learning the instrument and for hearing great piano performances. Winston Salem, known as the “City of the Arts and Innovation,” is a thriving university town with a vibrant cultural arts district in its downtown. Music has always occupied a leading role in the city’s arts scene.

The University of North Carolina School of the Arts, located on South Main Street, is home to a renowned School of Music with a full slate of public recitals and concerts each year, many of which take place in the intimate setting of Watson Hall, a 300-seat auditorium that houses two beautiful Hamburg Steinway concert grand pianos. Hearing great music played by master artists on these instruments is an inspiration to any aspiring pianist. The school’s outreach extends further off campus, too, to the magnificent Stevens Center downtown, where piano artists perform regularly with the UNCSA Symphony Orchestra and the highly acclaimed Winston Salem Symphony. There’s no better way to learn the piano repertoire than to hear an engaged live performance.

Just a stone’s throw from UNCSA is Salem College, a jewel of an institution with a School of Music that is steeped in both tradition and innovation. Founded in 1804, the school boasts a thriving performance calendar and remarkable facilities, including a historic and highly admired 1938 Steinway concert grand in Shirley Recital Hall. The opportunity to hear such an instrument in this acoustically fine venue, whether it be in a solo piano performance, chamber music presentation, vocal recital, or choral concert, is not only enriching, but is "de rigueur" for any budding pianist in the city. Here is a perfect place to learn the art of listening for subtlety and nuance in piano playing while taking your piano lessons in Winston Salem. We learn so much from listening to others, especially in a live performance.

Winston Salem has much to offer pianists outside of the university scene, too. Jazz is alive and well in the Downtown Summer Music Series, including “Downtown Jazz” on Fridays and “Summer on Trade” on Saturdays in the evenings. Looking to buy a piano? Mitchell’s Piano Gallery has some great options, including digital and player pianos. Or, check out Piedmont Music Center, which for a limited time had in residence the actual Steinway grand that Vladimir Horowitz played in Moscow in his famous 1986 concerts.

Finally, a short venture down the highway is all it takes to attend the renowned Eastern Music Festival, in summertime residence at Guilford College in nearby Greensboro. The piano program there is an exciting mix of great master teachers and gifted young artists. Add chamber music and an accomplished symphony orchestra, and the results are top-notch music making.

In short, the city of Winston Salem and the surrounding Piedmont Triad provide a flourishing haven for motivated pianists of all ages and interests. If piano is your thing, you’re in the right place to be a part of it all. Time to practice!
