I am a retired Elementary School Teacher both for the Archdiocese of Detroit and Garden City Public Schools. I have also taught reading at a summer day camp for over ten years. I love to instill the love of reading in all my students, and I enjoy reading as well. I read anything and everything I can get my hands on. I am also a published author of three children's books grades 4th to 8th grades.
I have taught both in the school systems and in my home for over thirty years.

I am a patient, enthusiastic teacher in the following areas: piano, violin, cello, drums, music history, and music theory. I have taught vocal and instrumental music in both Catholic and Public schools, and in after-school programs, for 20 years, and have been giving private lessons for 9 years. I enjoy teaching music to all age students, and especially enjoy watching my students grow in their music ability.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Marygrove College in Detroit in Language Arts with minors in Music Education and History,and my Masters Degree from Wayne State University in Education with emphasis on English as a Second Language and Sign Language for the Deaf. I have studied Music Education for K-5 at Madonna University in Livonia, Michigan.
I am also a published author of five children's books. You can find them through my
publisher Xlibris. com and they are called Peggy, The Three-Some Book 2, The Writer's Corner Book 3, The Golden Nugget Book 4, The 1940 Diary Book 7. These are books for students in grades 4th through 8th grades and are also interactive books. I hope you enjoy them.
I also tutor for Take Lessons Grades 1 to Grade 8 all subjects except higher level Math.

*** Lesson Details ***
Piano: All students start out learning both Treble and Bass Clefs, and their lines and spaces. Each student then starts to learn their major scales with both right and left hand for piano. They also learn the note values, and are able to put them together in a song. I use Michael Aaron curriculum, which takes in all of the above and their technique lessons. I use all the Michael Aaron Book One, Lessons, Theory, Technic, and Performance Books for any student that is age 6 and above and I would ask that parents would buy them from Anderson Music in Dearborn, Michigan as well as any other lesson books listed below before they come to my home for lessons.

Cello: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, the students learn the bass clef, lines and spaces, scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.I have played cello in the Waterford New Horizons Concert Band for over six years. I have also been the only cellist they have as a member of the band.

Violin: Using String Builder and Strictly Strings, students will learn lines and spaces of the treble clef, note values, major scales, and songs. Students will learn how to hold their bow correctly.

Drums: Using Rockin’ Rhythm Raps, and using drum pads instead of drums, students will learn the correct way to hold drum sticks and the rhythms of all the notes in the treble and bass clefs. They will also learn songs to play.

I have recently returned from a week long stay at the Sonatina Piano Camp in Bennington VT and would like to notify all those piano students who may read this review as to the wonderful experience attending this camp can be. The camp takes adult piano students at all piano skill levels from beginner to well accomplished. Students stay in shared rooms (2-4 persons) which includes a piano in every room. Attendance is usually 18- 27 persons. The mansion itself is home to approx. 30 pianos. All meals are provided (and are outstanding) as well as piano classes and 4 lessons with concert pianists or university piano professors. Ample time is provided to practice a performance piece for the end of week performance night. Master classes are given on several evenings for those wishing to perform a work in progress piece for the attendees and the camp owner providing a public lesson.
I have found that the attending student group to be extremely supportive to all other students especially to those experiencing performance anxiety. Repeating attendees (from all over the country) have formed lasting friendships among themselves which have endured for years. Eight week long sessions are given throughout the year. In addition there are summer sessions for school aged youth
and also 4 short week sessions for those wishing to try a sampling of the camp. This past January was my 3rd year attending the camp and I will be returning again next year. My experiences at the camp have been truly unforgettable. More information can be obtained at Sonatina.com

Kathy has worked wonders with my piano lessons. In about a year and half of lessons Kathy has added scales and exercises along with musical selections designed to enhance specific skills, plus has worked with me on select piano works which I find interesting and challenging. My abilities and quality of playing been steadily improving. She is always positive and uplifting yet she still can point out areas of playing quality which require work. She gears lessons and advancement of difficulty to my specific rate of improvement. I couldn't ask for better and and am looking forward to continued progress over time for my improved musicianship.

Voice
I am an empathetic teacher, sensitive to the students individual process of learning. My singing lessons usually start with breathing and relaxation exercises. Vocal exercise come next, then when the student is fully warmed up, we will begin to work on songs. It is important that the student be part of the process of picking material since the more they personally respond to the material the more apt they are to be engaged in their lessons and the more quickly they will learn. After three to six months they will understand the fundamentals of breathing and relaxation and its importance to proper vocal training. They will have begun the process of extending their range and will understand the principles of performance in song.
Acting
As an acting teacher and coach, I tailor my classes to the needs of each student. I utilize improvisatory and sensory techniques to help unleash spontaneity. I also encourage the students to use their personal experiences as a way to access a full range of emotions. I enjoy working with the student on script analysis, so as to discover the underlying motivations of the character the student is working on.
Creative and Lyric Writing
I use prompts as a way to get the student writing. Often, I will ask the student to write for stretches of time without editing themselves. It is important to unleash imagination before beginning the process of editing. Many times it is the unexpected that is the must compelling.

Learning to read is a great experience, when it all goes well...but what if you have a learning disability? What if you can't learn like other people around you? This is why I picked online schools myself; I didn't learn the way other people learned from books or taking tests. When I teach someone something, they are the one doing the tasks, my explanations are in a self discovery methodology where the student plods through until they hit that road block...we look at how that occurs to make the learning process stop...once evaluated for each person the learning can begin!

This is good for my online students, in that there will be a camera feed directly into the classroom. Once you have followed the process to secure me as your instructor, you will receive the URL to that private video link and

This will be especially exciting for special needs children that do not get to leave home to go to school; our grand daughter will in fact have to leave the house to travel to the converted garage in which the school is located. This short trip excites and engages her in her day and the path it takes. Many may think "what is the point," cognitive abilities have a wide range of needs that must be met for a person to progress through life.

As for people like our grand daughter there must be a higher standard, we make the mark very high so she can have all the choices at her finger tips even if she can't implement them herself she deserves the opportunity to HEAR, and TOUCH her way through life.

Understanding what is said is cognitive achievement!
Following directions is cognitive achievement (even if there is a delay in response)
Repeating actions day to day and after a lapse of time [is"cognitive recall" or cognitive memory] event or actions are reintroduced, student is then responding to that "recall."

I believe all people in any state should be stimulated and engaged to learn or be taught something daily.

I am pretty new at computers so Gayle has given me hope there is a place for an older person being able to navigate the Windows operating systems. and these smart phones.

I think her style of teaching or tutoring, is impeccable-never once did she let on I didn't know what I was doing. She made me feel comfortable and was up-front what I needed to do and allowed me to do it myself. I learn best if I do things myself.

She has given me a way to do basic Windows actions, email, internet and most important of all access Netflix!

I highly recommend Gayle for any of the classes she teaches. Computers are not my strong area- but with Gayle's help now I can help my veteran buddies get on the VA sites and conduct business. I can help other apply for jobs and navigate a resume and basic things we all should know now no matter how old we get.

I am a college level jazz musician.
My primary instruments are jazz guitar and upright bass.
Growing up I have always wanted to sing but never could find a qualified teacher.

Luckily, after extensive research online for vocal teachers I discovered Kara.
I have been taking lessons with her for a while now and she's wonderful.
I always have many questions for her in my lessons and she always has a knowledgable response.

I feel like I'm progressing and finally learning how to sing properly with someone who knows their stuff.

I would highly recommend studying with her.

My daughter needed help with her writing portfolio for an audition. I knew that the competition was going to be fierce and while I believe that my daughter has real talent I also knew that she needed help organizing here ideas. Needless to say, she was selected to participate in the writing program. We both know that Jonita’s guidance and collaboration helped her achieve that goal. Jonita’s teaching style is exceptional and refreshing. My daughter hopes to work with her again as she transitions to the next stage of her journey as a young writer.

I have taught reading to over a hundred students and counting. I am a published and awarded poet currently in my second year at the Creative Writing MFA at Syracuse University.

I teach reading to all age and skill levels, so I know where a student has been, where they need to be, and how to get them there. I work hard with students to set the goals that can bring out their best potential.

I teach struggling readers and gifted readers. I teach everything from phonics to speed reading to tools to maximize creative/critical interpretation. I teach fiction, textbooks, and poetry.

I love books as much as I love anything. Books have helped me learn how to be human - compassionate, curious, joyful. Books have opened doors to new worlds and shed new colors on the world I live in. Books have taught me to understand perspectives different than my own, that everyone is right. Books have provided solace when I needed it, and entertainment when I wanted it, and have brought more meaning

Five-time Ohio scholastic chess champion, and a US Junior Open co-champion. Poet at Syracuse University's prestigious MFA program, where I also teach undergraduate composition.

My seventh poetry chapbook, With Porcupine, won the 2015 Ruby Irene Prize from Arcadia Press. My work appears in The Poetry Review, The Colorado Review, The Adroit Journal, and over 60 other publications. You can read my work at jacoboet.com.

I graduated from Swarthmore College in 2016, with a major in Poetry and Translation and a minor in Russian (GPA 3.83). I am currently a teaching fellow in the Poetry MFA at Syracuse University. My SAT is 2320 (CR800, W800, M720), and my GRE 330 (VR170, QR160).

I have been practicing Zen and other forms of meditation on a daily basis for 5 years. I have lived and practiced at Dai Bosatsu Zendo, a Zen monastery in the C
atskills.

I bring a sense of playfulness and humor to all of my teaching. I also always show up at 100% with my whole heart and mind. I set high goals and inspire the passion my students need to reach them.

I loved learning creative writing from Jacob! He was a really fun teacher, but was also serious about helping me learn. He was always prepared, and really seemed to care about my thoughts.

What I loved most was how it never felt like he was talking AT me, but instead, he was talking with me.

I can't recommend Jacob enough!

Jacob is an adept teacher. In poetry where everything is up to the reader's interpretation, Jacob remained unbiased and gave me great advice, drawing from his vast personal experience. He never tells me what to write, just gives suggestions on what he thinks could be changed.

I've been sending my poetry to Jacob for a long time. He's a very deep and generous reader and always asks a lot of questions before offering suggestions, to make sure that he understands completely what I am trying to accomplish. When he gives me critiques, he has an amazing knack at separating the meat from the bone, tightening my lines, and modifying my structure to best suit my vision for the work.
