About Ylona Marie
Ylona has been teaching people to take care of themselves, their health, and their families' health since 2013.

Are you curious about essential oils? Passionate about homeopathic remedies? Fearful to try herbs? You're in luck! Ylona is here to teach you how to safely and effectively use alternative methods and naturopathic principles to help your health.

What is naturopathy?

Naturopathy is the practice of working with the body to restore balance and allow healing to occur. Naturopathy is an umbrella term, meaning it encompases many other practices. These include body work, acupuncture, homeopathy, iridology, herbology, aroma therapy, energy work, and many others.

Naturopaths work to treat the whole person. Our bodies are not simply a group of separate systems that have no effect on the others. Every part of our body is c
onnected to the other. This means we need to find the root cause and work to heal that, not simply put band-aids on the symptoms.

There are several guiding principles naturopaths follow.

1. The body is designed to heal.
2. Give the body what it needs and it will heal.
3. Germs do not cause disease, environment causes disease. The environment is you–physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
4. Disease has many causes beyond the physical including emotional, mental, and spiritual.
5. A doctor is a teacher. This means the ultimate goal for any naturopath is to educate the client out of needing the naturopath.
6. Naturopaths serve the client. They are not the healer, they merely facilitate and witness the client on his/her path to health.
7. Naturopaths empower the client. You do the work, not your naturopath.
8. We cause no harm.

In addition to naturopathy, Ylona is trained as a Life Coach and is working towards a certification in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP).

Shortly after my 37th birthday, I decided I wanted to learn to play piano. Although I hadn't touched a musical instrument in over 20 years and forgotten a vast majority of what I had learned as a child, Ruth was there to coach me through the process. She's incredibly knowledgeable about music, shown flexibility when I've had scheduling conflicts, and genuinely cares about my progress. She's been instrumental (pun intended!) in my musical journey and I can't say enough great things about her. Thank you, Ruth!

Ruth is an amazing teacher. She is patient and has an excellent grasp on music theory, something that was lacking when I took lessons as a child and even when I was in band through high school. She goes at your pace and caters lessons to your needs. I've learned so much from her, thank you Ruth!

About Tom
Tom has been teaching private lessons since 2006 and is currently available to teach lessons online. Foremost, Tom provides expertise, experience, and encouragement.

Tom received his training at Boston University in 1998 where he received a degree in Finance and International Relations. Then going on to receive a degree in English Literature. As an native in the English language Tom looks forward to helping new students achieve their goals. Tom's teaching style is relaxed and filled with humor that continues to motivate his students.

Lessons are scheduled to best fit to the student'€™s schedule when possible.

ESL/ELL STUDENTS

Teaching non-English speaking students the basic AND advanced fundamentals of English. The seven parts of speech taught are nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and int
erjections.

Tom works at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels as an adult education instructor providing English instruction to classes or individual students.

As an ESL teacher, developing a curriculum he takes an overall approach to English study that focuses on a specific aspect of language use, such as life skills, literacy, or vocational and workplace English competencies. Both approaches involve teaching his students basic English skills, such as listening, reading, writing and speaking.

CLASSROOM/LESSONS

- Pronunciation techniques
- Quizzes, textbooks, videos and computer lessons
- Basic communication with real-life interactions

Using language use in different situations, such as shopping, schooling, job hunting or working with English-speaking co workers.

He places awareness on the students' culture and recognition of cultural differences which might affect a student's ability to acclimate to an English-speaking environment.

STUDENTS LESSON DETAILS

He prefers to discuss goals with his students or their parents to determine what they are most interested in ACHIEVING. Together we can create a lesson plan designed for the individual student.

TECHNOLOGY

Excerpt from "50 Ways to Teach Online: Tips for ESL/EFL Teachers" by Dr. Justin Shewell.

The Pedagogical Foundations Of EnglishCentral

By David Deubelbeiss

EnglishCentral is a company that takes pride in having experienced teachers on staff and designing a product that will help students learn and acquire English, particularly for international communication.

Too often technology is designed without the control or voice of educators. Technology for technology's sake. We have tried to avoid this error and build an e-learning platform that puts pedagogy and learning first.

Here are the key aspects of English Central's pedagogy:

1. Motivation.

We live in a visual and digital world. Students consume enormous amounts of video content and video has become the new textbook. EnglishCentral harnesses this built in, intrinsic level of motivation - why not learn English while viewing videos you love? EnglishCentral publishes 30 new video lessons per week and its vast library of video lessons and courses offers every student the chance to study what they want and listen to messages they want to hear.

2. Comprehensible Input

Not only do students need to listen to messages they want to hear - these messages must be level appropriate (Krashen, 2001). Each EnglishCentral video lesson or course plus our vocabulary is leveled and can be assigned to students based on their level of English. This provides appropriate practice maximizing language acquisition.

3. Precise, Timely Feedback

EnglishCentral provides instant feedback to students. Students begin to "notice the gap" (Schmidt, 1990) and begin to self-correct as they compare their speech to the original. Tools are provided so students can "dig down" and understand the language and get the answers they need immediately. EnglishCentral works to promote learner autonomy.

4. Lowered Affective Filter

Many students go through a substantial "silent period" (Krashen, 1985). Others need the time and space given through self-study before they are ready to excel in the very socially demanding classroom. EnglishCentral provides a safe, low anxiety environment where learners can proceed at their own pace and practice speaking in a non-threatening place. Teachers are often amazed how the quiet students in their class "bloom" on EnglishCentral.

5. An Oral Language Focus

The 21st century workplace and global nature of communication demands that students have strong speaking skills. The importance of written communication is receding. EnglishCentral's proprietary speech recognition system IntelliSpeech™ trains students to produce, clear, intelligible speech for effective communication across cultures and borders.

6. Blended Learning

The future of education lies in blended learning (Arne Duncan, 2014). EnglishCentral partners with schools and teachers offering a unique blended learning model and platform. Courses and video lessons can perfectly compliment what students learn in class, providing students with extra practice matching the class curriculum. Our free LMS lets teachers extend the curriculum and track student achievement.

7. Structured Learning

Our simple Watch | Learn | Speak methodology provides low cognitive overload and an easy to follow learning pathway. Courses and video lessons are leveled and vocabulary is presented with spaced-time repetition. EnglishCentral monitors every word or expression students study and provides a simple interface where students can use the feedback to improve their pronunciation and build their vocabulary.

8. Gaming

Students are highly engaged by the gaming dynamics of EnglishCentral. Students compete for XPs (Experience Points) and ranking through their study. However, we don't go overboard and aim to keep the focus on the learning, not the gaming.

9. Ambiguity Tolerance

Language is a vast and unpredictable space. Successful language learners are risk takers. Critical to being a risk taker is having a strong ability to not be stressed out by what you don't understand (Brown, 2007). EnglishCentral provides authentic content that challenges students to focus on the general meaning and gist and strengthen their level of ambiguity tolerance.

About A L
A L is a Pagan model and performing artist, with a passion for dance, creating lasting art, live performance and entertainment. Her performance experience goes all the way back to when she was 7 years old and began twirling baton in parades and cheering for the local football clinic. A L has been a practicing eclectic pagan for 11 years and has been studying the occult since she was 13 years old. She plans to have a shop one day where she can continue her meditation classes, tarot readings and spiritual cleansings and expand further into the healing arts.

A L has always loved dance. Growing up, she was influenced by major Hollywood dance films and dance competition shows. In 2015, during a transformative time in her life, A L fell in love with the pole and found herself engrossed in the performance aspect. Her journey lead her to a chang
e of life and she lost 50 lbs, and despite being an athlete throughout school, became the fittest she had ever been. After two years as a performing artist and dancer, she became determined to help others realize their fitness goals while having fun and expressing themselves through dance. She now teaches pole fitness and dance, specializing in burlesque style movements. .

A L performs at local gigs, spreading the beauty of and (hopefully) helping to de-stigmatize pole dance. A L is expanding her knowledge of aerial arts to include aerial hoop, silks, and even acro yoga. "One of my deepest passions is dance." A L enjoys burlesque, pole, swing, tango, waltz, broadway, paso doble, foxtrot and more. As a child, A L's least favorite style of dance was contemporary. However, as her pole dancing career has evolved, she finds herself drawn to the expressiveness of the style. A L plans to compete at Pole Con 2018.

Love, Love, Love Karlie!! I mean who couldn't love 90 minutes of hot Bikram being guided by an Aussie :) I love yoga and have been practicing Hot Yoga, Hatha and Vinyassa back east for 10 years. Recently having moved from east coast to west coast, where everything is different including yoga, I needed to find a new studio. So I did... Coronado "Bikram" Hot Yoga. I thought....if its HOT then I knew it was familiar and exactly what I needed....SWEAT to get my now 55 years young body back in shape, whatever shape that was, I knew that it was yoga that would do it. My first class I immediately found out that "Bikram" is very different than anything I had been practicing. 90 minutes of verbal instruction of 24 poses x2. Hence is where Karlie came into my life on the yoga mat.  Karlie taught me some very important lessons in spite of my years of other yoga styles with some very respectful instructors: First, be kind to myself.  I demand so much of my mind and body and am often disappointed in one or both.  Working to accept my limitations while still pushing myself to grow and learn is always a challenge and Karlie would remind me "there's a savasana after this." Second, my life is a journey.  The fact each class is studiously called a practice helps reinforce this message.  Everything I do or think or learn is part of my path.  Embracing the journey helps me to put many things in better perspective and allows me to enjoy and laugh where previously I may have pushed or despaired. Third, it’s only about me.  I don’t need to compare myself to others, either in the class, or in life.  I find this one harder as I envy those whose practice allows them to do yogic feats that still elude me. But now, I make every effort to view those individuals as inspiration. Fourth, shortcuts only cheat me.  I want to do poses my body wasn’t ready for and would sacrifice form to achieve something that meant more to me at the time.  Now, I understand the importance of taking each step so I gain the learning through the development. Fifth, my mind and body are fully connected.  The more I understand and respect this fact, the more peace I find in my life and in my relationships. Sixth, and most important, Karlie is always on the mat with her students...we are all practicing together, the same body and energy together in the hot room and I am ever so grateful to have practiced with her :)
