Hello! A little about me... I have a Bachelors Degree in Music, 15 years of performing experience, and 10 years of teaching experience. Acting students will receive instruction customized for their individual needs and skill level, drawing on a variety of techniques, including Linklater (physical and vocal work), Stanislavski, Meisner, and Grotowski, Shurtleff, among others. Students can work privately on audition skills, including monologues and cold reading, as well as scene work, character building and basic principles of acting. The first step to great acting is a free body and voice, allowing full expression of of emotional life of the character!

About Wendy
I am a professional singer, songwriter and actor working in the Chicago area for many years. I have a B.F.A. in Theater/Voice from The University of Kansas and an M.A. in Interdisciplinary Arts from Columbia College Chicago. I've been teaching private vocal instruction since 2003: I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, a unique and supportive venue for singer's to become more comfortable performing before an audience. I also instruct workshops for vocal technique and performance. For 10 years I was the lead singer for The Red Apples, an acoustic/electric roots band that performed an eclectic mix of rock, swing, blues, country and jazz. Within the past year I have re-energized my theater and cabaret career, appearing at Davenport's Cabaret, in a new solo show, as well as productions at Big Noise Theater and Stage 773. I've also completed tw
o short films and started working on my own web series, about my life as a singer/voice teacher. I also have an art song project consisting of original material with composer Jaroslaw Golembiowski. As a singer and actress I have performed with many major theaters in the Chicago area, including Court Theater, Victory Gardens, National Jewish Theater, Bailiwick Theater, and Prop Theater.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a classically trained singer I will instruct you in all aspects of singing technique, from breath control and support to improving your tone, range, flexibility and resonance. I have recently completed training in Somatic Voicework, The LoVetri Method, which has enriched my understanding of the mechanics and health of the voice, as well as applications of technique to CCM or contemporary musical styles of singing.
My familiarity with a variety of musical styles from pop/rock, R&B, and country, to musical theater, lounge and jazz makes me an ideal teacher for those interested in contemporary styles.

I have spent many years developing my own style of singing and instruction. I draw on my experiences and training not only in music, but theater and movement, (Linklater, Alexander Technique, Grotowski) to create a well rounded approach to singing and performing. As an instructor, I am most interested in helping students find their true voice and artistic style. I teach students to find expression through and with a foundation of technique, rather then in spite of it. I also am very interested in helping students deal with the mental/emotional aspects of performance, an all important area so frequently ignored by music teachers. My style is nurturing, yet disciplined, and sprinkled liberally with good-natured humor."

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio space is fully equipped with a piano, P.A. system with microphones, CD, MP3 player for tracks, and ability to record lessons if the student desires.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Please have a piano (in tune!) or keyboard for use in your in home lessons.

*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained, but I am very adept at teaching music in a wide variety of styles, including most contemporary styles of music including pop/rock, roots, swing, jazz and blues, country, r&b, and of course musical theater and cabaret. My band performs an eclectic mix of originals and covers in the roots rock genre, and I write music as well. I have many years of experience in the theater as an actress, and I coach acting technique and performance. I coach singer/songwriters, and all types of singers, of all ages. I have a workshop that specializes in helping people learn to perform better in front of an audience, and I host the Singer's Salon in Chicago, which is a supportive opportunity to perform regularly! I also coach bands, to improve their vocals, harmonies, etc.

About Janelle
Hello! My name is Janelle L. and I am a Manhattanville College graduate with a BFA in Musical Theatre and a BA in Psychology. As a performer I have appeared in the Off- Broadway productions ANTIGONE and TWELTH NIGHT with Love Creek Theater Company, SHOUT The Mod Musical and SHOWTUNE with direction by Mark Cherry, The Off-Broadway production oF THE EXTRAORDINARY FALL OF THE FOUR LEGGED WOMAN and a solo cabaret at The Metropolitan Room. I currently teach Voice, Piano, Violin, and Cello at The New Windsor School of Music and The Rock Underground of Greenwood Lake. I have learned some of my best lessons from being a performer and try to give my students more than technical knowledge; i.e. breathing from the diaphragm, not using tension to control breath, aiming over the soft pallet, etc., but also acting and performance knowledge; like learn
ing to work with your nerves before a number and thinking about why the character is singing instead of saying the lyrics. I have been teaching since I was 16; from students ranging from 5 years old to 47 and have learned to adapt my curriculum to each student while making sure they develop a good repertoire and technique. For educational purposes I follow exercises and drills from a range of books including Vocal Strength and Power by Dena Murray, Speak with Distinction by Edith Skinner, Acting Songs by David Brunetti, and Voice and The Alexander Technique by Jane Ruby Heirich. I can perform basic accompanying parts and can also transpose music.

a sample of how my voice lessons are run is below. Each student with leave with a basic knowledge of solfage, a musical scale, and multiple genres of songs.

About Maria
MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of my studio is to create well-rounded, educated musicians who will always have a lifelong passion for the art no matter their long-term goals. I strive for my students to be:

(1) Lifelong learners who develop successful learning habits.
(2) Creative and critical thinkers who will become effective communicators.
(3) Responsible and respectful members of society who respect other cultures.
(4) Able to set short-term and long-term goals and be able to see them through to their success.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno
w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

My daughter takes guitar from Maria and I didn’t realize how much she’s progressed until we went to a friend’s recital. 8 months with Maria and my child is leaps and bounds ahead of kids who’ve been taking for 2-3 years. It’s really motivating for her to see. Maria has standards which are non-negotiable but she’s patient and truly guides the kids to success. I’m so happy with our choice as her as a teacher.

I have experience both as an actor and a director, at both the community and professional level

My name is Larry, and I was born and raised in Chicago and now call the Phoenix, AZ metro area home. I have a Master's Degree in Education (Higher Ed. and Curriculum Development). I have a Tutoring and Educational Consulting business of my own, working with excellent education partners like Takelessons.

My tutoring business is geared towards middle, high school, and college students, and my specialization is geared in four areas:

1) The Humanities: History (U.S., European, and World), English, Literature (with a special passion for all things Shakespeare), and Social Studies (including American Government and Political Science).

2) Papers: Research papers (and how to do the
research for them), essays, creative writing - including citation & formatting.

3) Drama (the Theatre kind of drama, not life drama): Acting, directing, staging, analysis, including Shakespeare.

4) Test Prep: ACT, SAT, PSAT, ISEE, TACHS

***My Promise to You***

I will treat you like an individual - that means that we'll find out how YOU learn best, and we'll work that way. I don't teach memorization. I teach by asking and answering questions, as well as providing information.

***My Expectation of You***

That you will come with an open mind, come with questions, and a willingness to learn and have fun.

***Lesson Details***

*The Humanities*
The reason so many people go screaming into the night when confronted with lessons in things like history, or government, or English for that matter, are all the names and dates to memorize. I don't teach that way. We begin with things you want (or need) to know. From there, we cover how those things affected other things, It's a huge world out there, and how we got here from where we started is a wonderful and complicated trip. History doesn't happen in a vacuum, and we learn who we are by knowing where we come from.

*Papers*
Obviously I won't write your paper for you, but I will show you how and where to start your research (and how to sort it as well). I will also proof-read for grammar and/or organizational errors and show you how to structure it in general terms.

*Drama*
I have acted, I have directed. From the community to professional levels. We will talk about character creation, about staging, about working with your director as well as your fellow actors. We will mostly brainstorm, and you will be able to experiment in vision as well as technique.

My love for acting and the craft began in college, whereas I received a degree in Theatre Arts. I then pursued my dream in NYC and trained with reputable teachers and auditioned for several years. Learning both method acting and improvisation, I applied it to my stage work, soap work, and independent films. I continued my training and performing after moving to Los Angeles. Playing the body double for Nastassja Kinski in an HBO film and doing a variety of modeling gigs was good experience. Once I moved to Florida, I decided teaching youth was my calling and while I taught elementary school, I was director/ teacher for a summer theatre program for 3 years. I love sharing my acting knowledge with youth and tapping into their talent. Setting them up for success is so rewarding!

About Foy
I love working with youth! It is exciting for me to share what I know from my experiences but also to discover your journey with you. Diving into a script, selecting scene work, developing characters are all part of our process. Improvisation is also great training and beneficial and if you have a monologue for an audition that is my specialty. I am a big believer that theatre and the arts are important to have in your life. So if you are nervous, scared, never did anything like this before- make a leap and go for it!!!

"There's no Mystique, it's all Technique"

I've been primarily a theatre actor my entire life. Straight plays and Musicals. From Neil Simon to Shakespeare to Sondheim. I was classically trained by New York’s National Shakespeare Conservatory, and been a working actor all of my adult life.

I'll help you navigate the "larger than life" world of the stage and show you that the truth lies IN playing a character to a 1200 seat auditorium. There's nothing more fun than being on stage and getting live feedback and spontaneously living in the moment 8 shows a week. It requires great stamina and skill.

Let's build a craft and a career together.

About Wayne
"There's no Mystique; it's all Technique"

I have been an actor for 33 years. I'm a member of AEA and SAG-AFTRA. I've acted in theatre, musical theatre, voice over, voice dubbing, feature films, independent films, TV, industrials (live and TV), commercials, print ads, you name it. There's no part of legit show business I haven't done or tried. I've played leading roles on stages from Taiwan to South Florida, won the Carbonell award (South Florida's Tony) twice, been nominated seven times, and am also a BroadwayWorld LA nominee.

Since 2001, I established a clientele of private students from beginners to experienced pros. Sessions have included primarily college auditions, theatre auditions, musical theatre auditions, TV & Film castings, and general career advice including resumes, agents, casting directors, etc. I've been on faculty
of The Acting School of South Florida, The Acting Studio, Arts Alive, and the Gulfshore Playhouse.

I offer you a practical, "real-world" approach to navigating the world of show business, whether you're a beginner or seasoned union pro. You can work with me on college prep, refresh your audition monologues, get some tips on that upcoming TV casting, or virtually anything in between. I'm also a legit musical theatre performer, so we can work on your audition songs too.

Working with Wayne LeGette was a great experience for me. Having seen him in I Love You, You're Perfect... several times had fostered a huge respect for him in me. When he came to coach performance pieces for competition at Taravella High School, I was very excited to meet such a professional and realize that professionals are, in fact, human. He has a great sense of humor and a deep wealth of experience-based advice about performing and life in theatre. He coached my friend and I in our duet acting scene from the musical ASSASSINS. A deep piece regarding the Kennedy assassination, Wayne helped us explore new sides of our characters that shaped those we had already made into a flawless scene. So flawless, in fact, that at the state level, we won Critic's Choice in our event and performed the scene in front of all 6,000 talented Thespians that had converged on Tampa--- a huge landmark in my early career that I'll never forget. What meant more to me that the scene work was the private chat Wayne and I shared as I walked him out of Taravella one day. He told me that he saw something in me that he believes is going to "make it". I asked a million questions about college, auditions, headshots, and every other possible question about working professionally. He gave me tremendous insight into his life and his route to where he is today. One of the songs he coached me on that day, Fate from the musical Kismet, helped me in being accepted to the University of Florida's BFA Musical Theatre program, which I begin in late August. I would like to say "Thank You" to Wayne and wish him much luck and success in the future. I hope to stay in touch with him as he is a very inspirational person with whom I felt we had much in common.

I have had the most pleasurable opportunity of working with Wayne LeGette during my senior year while attending Dillard Center for the Arts. As you know, senior year is often the most difficult and tumultuous period of adolescent life that one must go through. Being at a performing arts high school I had to deal with not only the pressures of classes, friendships, and college apps, but the added "bonus" of thespian festivals, military-style competition piece rehearsals and tryouts for the senior musical-the most prestigious of all high school productions. Mr. LeGette was there through the entire process and provided the expertise and knowledge of a seasoned professional and the guidance and unconditional love of a great friend.

Wayne never turned down a request for help with a monologue or song, be it for inside or outside the classroom, as many of us worked in community theatre during the hours when we were not at school. He was always there to listen when I had a problem that didn't concern theatre and here he proved his knowledge exceeded that which he had learned simply from the arts.

Mr. LeGette is a strong asset to any program he is involved in. He is a model to the students who work with him and a talented teacher and performer. He deserves only the best because that is what he brings to others. He comes with my highest recommendation.

Wayne LeGette coached me for an audition that called for a classic monologue. He has an extensive knowledge of period pieces and he helped me select an appropriate character that suited me. We added nuances to my audition piece rather than focusing on portraying a period "character," which was very successful. Wayne is a great teacher--it was a pleasure to work with him.

I am currently a Drama student at the University of California, Irvine with a concentration in Directing. I bring 7 years of experience in directing, acting, and leadership. Lessons are customized depending on the student's needs, whether that is acting, creative thinking, leadership in the arts, or even public speaking. On the side, I can also assist in working on vocal technique, singing or not. I will take notes during each lesson and focus on sustaining the strengths and crafting the weaknesses. I believe with my work ethic and drive, I can help turn goals into achievements.

About Matthew
Hello! I'm Matthew Gottlieb and I am a Drama student at the University of California, Irvine. I have been part of the theatre community since elementary school, and every day the passion for the arts becomes stronger and stronger. I have worn multiple hats in the artistic arena; some examples include acting, directing, dramaturgy, sound design, and playwriting.

Besides doing theatre, I love playing the piano and coming up with different compositions and figures. I am a self-taught piano player that sometimes plays by ear (since reading sheet music is difficult at times). Additionally, I try to be as acting outside as possible. Bike riding, walking, paddle-boarding, and sometimes hiking.

Something that I always remind students is that we are all learning. Nobody knows everything but we try to understand our craft and capabilities as mu
ch as possible. I always want to make sure that students take time out of their day to try and recognize what their strengths are and what can be done to turn those weaknesses into creative tools.

I hope I get the opportunity to work with you in the future! Thank you for taking the time to read this profile. Have a wonderful day.
