Learn the basics for acting in a fun way! Each lesson will be modified to fit the student's personal level, from beginner to advanced. Lessons will include information on how to audition, how to find auditions, audition preparation, acting lingo, how to project your voice, how to choose monologues, how to create an acting resume and head shot, and so much more. We will work on your monologues or anything you would like to bring in, in addition to everything listed.

About Jessie
Thank you for your interest in lessons! I hope to help you achieve your goals and improve your skills, whether you're looking for music lessons, help in math, or need someone to proofread your essay before you turn it in. Every student is a unique person who deserves a lesson customized to their individual needs. Each of my students prospers in an atmosphere of patience and encouragement. While the lessons are fun and enjoyable, the serious student will be supported in the development of skills leading to a rewarding career, and the more casual students will grow in an appreciation of knowledge that will always enrich their lives.

I have been tutoring and teaching private lessons for over five years, and currently have over 40 active students. I received my bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on vocal performance at the Unive
rsity of Redlands in 2011, and my Associate of Arts degree in 2008 from College of the Desert. I teach online, locally, and at my studio, and cover a variety of subjects such as voice, music, theater, piano, math, english, music theory, just to name a few.

For academic tutoring (i.e. math, theory, vocabulary) I work on helping the student understand their homework and help prepare them for tests. I can also provide worksheets if necessary and am prepared to demonstrate problem areas in different ways if needed, because everyone learns differently. For voice, piano, music, and acting lessons I teach the student based on what their current level is. If you have no experience, that's okay! My lessons are uniquely designed to fit your needs no matter what level you may be.

As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women, Seussical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer in churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to stay active in the performance industry, because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it!

With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life they will achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having fun doing it!

*Note: My home office has a lot of stairs and two cats. If you are disabled or have a feline allergy, please consider in-home lessons or lessons online.

With a BA from London's Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Crystal has appeared in over 50 plays. She teaches the technical and creative skills necessary for acting on the stage.

About Crystal
Crystal brings a lifetime’s experience of professional musicianship to each of her lessons. Born into a family of musicians, she sang her first solo at age 2. She also benefits her students with an extraordinarily diverse musical background, having worked as a vocalist in gospel, country, musical theater, jazz, classical, rock, pop and soul styles. Her performing career has taken her from L.A. church meetings to London’s Houses of Parliament.

Crystal hails originally from Los Angeles, CA - where her musical parents gave her a head start by including her in the family business the moment she was able to contribute. She went on to study classical voice, piano and music theory at The Boston Conservatory of Music. After concluding her studies in London, she returned home and began working regularly as a theater performer, appearing in twen
ty world premiers and re-imagined classics. Most notably she played the lead role of Keely Smith in the big band jazz musical “Louis and Keely: Live At The Sahara” during its eight-month run at Westwood’s Geffen Playhouse. She also formed her own rock band, The Honeysuckle Jones Revival, with whom she performed her own songs all over Los Angeles. And she began working as a studio session vocalist, providing demo vocals for other songwriters, as well as arranging and performing back-up vocals for original artists, including Laura Roppe (currently in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Uncharted list of emerging artists.) Crystal played the lead role of Brooke in the new operatic rock musical “The Burning Opera LA” during its Los Angeles run in 2011 as well as providing ensemble vocals and playing piano and bass. She also performs holiday tunes from the Golden Age of American songwriting with musical quartet The Sleigh Belles.

Crystal believes that music is serious business but that it should be fun. She encourages her students to play music they love, as well as expanding their musical knowledge. She is a firm believer in basics first and emphasizes theory and technique as the tools to support creativity and provide freedom, power and control. She believes effort beats talent every time and the student who practices consistently will see results, whatever their level of ability. Most of all, she believes we were all born to make music.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lesson structure varies depending on the student's instrument, age, level of experience and musical style. However, all lessons focus on:

Amazing singng instructor

Crystal has increased my daughter’s self-esteem and expressiveness through song. My daughter is now writing her own poetry and song lyrics, as well as being able to combat her once shyness quality. She loves to perform in front of others now and has a confidence level that amazes me, especially now that she is going into those “teen” years. I think a lot of thanks needs to go to Crystal, for assisting my daughter in reaching her current creative level!

Great piano instructor

Crystal is an amazing piano instructor. She is patient, understanding and dedicated. My daughter has learned so much from her. My daughter’s love for music has increased immensely since learning how to play the piano. This would never have been able to be accomplished without Crystal’s professional and caring teaching style.

This is time for us to focus on how to develop yourself as an actor! I will work on monologue audition pieces with you and scene work. Let's discover new things in pieces you already have! I am very thorough and love to explore pieces with an open mind. I can help with basic acting techniques as well as audition prep.

In these lessons, we will have a productive and interactive warm up. As soon as you feel ready we will tackle your project. I will teach you beats, arcs, break downs, and make sure that you know and can react to what is happening in your piece. You will have an amazing time and I promise that you will go away with a little more insight than you had when you came in.

About Celina
Hello! My name is Celina. I am so excited for what the future has in store for us and I hope that I can help you achieve your goals and aspirations. Before we begin, let me tell you a little bit about myself.

I have recently graduated AMDA The College and Conservatory for the Dramatic Arts with a Bachelor's Degree in the Performing Arts. Currently, I am working on a second degree with focuses in Business and Sociology. In High School, I started taking College and University Courses by Sophomore year. By the time I had graduated, I had tested in and passed over 10 courses for college credit. This list included: English Language, English Literature, Spanish Language, Spanish Literature, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, AB Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology. I graduated with Honors in both high school and college. College was dev
oted to the Performing Arts side of me. I accelerated in my program and graduated with my BFA in two and a half years, whilst studying in both Los Angeles and New York City.

I have over twelve years of experience playing the flute, as well as over six tutoring my peers and younger students in academia. I spent these six years primarily helping people with what they needed help with. My prior experience was both volunteer and me being…well, me! I also have over twelve years of experience as a nanny and childcare provider. I love working with children and find that one of the most fulfilling things to see in life is seeing a child’s passion increase ten-fold as they learn more about something that intrigues them. I adore sharing knowledge and I feel that helping others reach and attain their goals has helped me to learn more about myself and what I must do to reach my own. I have dedicated my young life to immersing myself in the arts and pursuing knowledge. I feel like I can help you learn in fun and amazing ways that you have never thought of before. :)

Lessons (in the pupil’s desired focus) will begin with a small look at how each student operates. Everyone learns differently! Lessons will then expand into fun and in depth sessions as I help each student find what exactly it is that intrigues them most. This will be accompanied by ironing out the wrinkles of the more complicated things. Lessons will always end with a laugh and a smile!

No matter what it is you decide to tackle, you can learn it. There is absolutely nothing that you can't learn. I'm here to help you!

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons in each of my specialties will be run a little differently. Here are the general breakdowns for lessons that I will run:

Flute Lessons: In these lessons, we will begin with a warm up and then a review of what has been learned in the previous lesson or more of the fundamentals that may have not been learned yet. After this segment, we will continue to push forward with correct technique and musicianship. The end of the lesson will be devoted to giving things to work on as well as something fun that will be learned before you are dismissed.

Academic Lessons: In these lessons, we will recap what we have talked about before as well as explore what I have most recently given the student. We will then meticulously go through the lesson to make sure that you comfortably understand. To conclude, we will make sure that all questions are answered as well as make a plan of action for the next lesson.

Acting Lessons: In these lessons, we will have a productive and interactive warm up. As soon as you feel ready we will tackle your project. I will teach you beats, arcs, break downs, and make sure that you know and can react to what is happening in your piece. You will have an amazing time and I promise that you will go away with a little more insight than you had when you came in.

*** Travel Equipment ***
The only lesson type that requires any equipment is the Flute lesson. I will bring a music stand, my own personal flute to help the student mimic things that I will show him/her, as well as the books that I will help train him/her with (if you have your own personal books you would like to use, we can use those as well). I still do expect the student to have his/her own flute. For all other lessons, no travel equipment is necessary. We are going to have a blast!

*** Specialties ***
My upmost specialty in teaching is Flute. I train beginner and intermediate students how to play, read music, create musicality, and help prep them for competitions, recitals, and other performances. I have personally been playing the flute for over 12 years.

My next specialty is helping tutor and teach academic subjects. I will help mentor you or your child to get better grades in school in the subjects mentioned above. I help teach beginner and intermediate students.

My last specialty is helping coach acting. I have received my BFA in Performing Arts and love acting and theater. I specialize in helping beginner and intermediate students prep for auditions and learn about the art of theater itself. I will help with techniques as well as personal coaching.

Erin taught my first ever acting lesson. My goal was to feel more confident speaking in a group and leading a group. She taught me a variety of exercises to become more comfortable and have more fun. Erin is a patient, thorough instructor and I have since used her suggestions. Erin would be an excellent instructor for children adults, as she has an ability to listen and get to the root of her client's needs.

Gabriel is an incredible accent teacher. He has his own technique and all I can say is that it REALLY works. I tried other accent coachs before him and always felt some part of the work wasn't fully done. I felt like they were only showing me what I should be doing. That is not the case with Gabriel. He is detail oriented he has a superman ear, he is very good at explaining what is the mistake you are making and how you can correct it, giving precise exercises and techniques to fix it. I have people asking me if I moved to the States when I was 5 when in reality I moved here less than a year ago :) Can't beat that! A part from his professionalism, he is kind, funny, flexible. I totally recommend him!

I loved working with Joanne! She directed me in a play(Sex In Manhattan) and I really enjoyed and benefited from her ability to direct. She was motivating and inspiring and gave excellent notes for me as an actor. I just returned from being oversea for many years as I was acting in action movies in Asia and one of the first people I contacted was Joanne to see what she was working on. I would love to work on another play if she puts something up and would recommend any actor to try and audition or take classes from her. Thanks Joanne and if your back in LA let me know if you have anything for me to come and audition, great luck!

Anthony Crivello is one of the best actor/ instructors I know. I have a studio in Arizona and he has done workshops for my students. He is a wealth of knowledge and brings information about the real world of the arts. A Tony Award winner and a true master of the stage and screen, my students respect him and are thrilled to have his time and guidance.
