I prefer to use Expeditionary Learning which involves "learning by doing" and participating in a hands-on experience. Communicate with parent, teachers regarding students' progress.

I have been tutoring students of all ages and levels of math for over 25 years. My most important goal is to have a student understand concepts and learn how to apply them. Learning how to use formulas and algorithms is also important, but should not be used as a substitute for understanding concepts. I love math and enjoy tutoring, but don't expect my students to like it until they improve.

About Rhoda
I have tutored math students from 3rd Grade through Calculus for over more than 25 years. My bachelor's degree is in Mathematics Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. My background is working with students in an alternate high school diploma program as well as working with gifted students. I coached winning MATHCOUNTS teams, a competition program for gifted middle school students.

I love tutoring students who are struggling in their current class, starting with what the student knows already and building on it so they are able to work problems in their present class.

I also tutor SAT prep; students are asked to buy an book that has SAT questions and work through it. I give help on math vocabulary, eliminating answers, and applying what they know to the problems. If your child needs to improve their SAT math score, but doe
sn't have time or motivation to take a class, private tutoring is a great option, as we are working only on problems they are struggling with.
