Finding a good physics teacher/tutor, for some odd reason, is perhaps more challenging than physics itself. Physics is actually quite fun when you have someone who can effectively communicate the more complex and counter-intuitive truths about the way our universe works.
As a physics tutor, my job is not to show off how much I know, but rather it's to help you find your understanding of the material and become great at it yourself. I do this by 1) not assuming you should "just know" how to properly set up a particular problem 2) not expecting you to "just get" why a particular phenomenon is the way it is 3) by asking you questions about what may be confusing or counter-intuitive, and using various approaches to explaining it until we find the one that works for your unique way of thinking about physical laws and properties.
About Colin
As a tutor, my goal is not to impress students with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to impress my students by showing them how easily math and science concepts can come to them when they are presented the material in a straightforward way. The late physicist, Richard Feynman, posited that the ability to explain complicated ideas in a simple manner is the true mark of understanding. I agree with this assertion, and I make it my goal each tutoring session to explain even the most complex phenomena in a simple way, so that my student will come away from the lesson invariably understanding it. Additionally, I emphasize a strong understanding of the fundamentals, because both math and science are heavily inductive disciplines; many of the theorems and laws are founded on other, more fundamental principles. I have personally experienced the discouragement of trying to learn material that is beyond my foundation level, and so I can empathize with students who are in that boat. Fortunately, I have learned that the remedy is always a return to, and a strengthening of the basics. That is the approach I take with students who find themselves struggling in a course.
My online teaching platform is a “black board” drawing program that my students can follow along with as I explain concepts and solve problems. I simply share my screen with them during the session, and at the end, I take a screenshot of the notes and email it to my students for their reference. I hope this brief explanation of my qualifications and teaching style has provided a clear image of what you can expect from me as your tutor. I am eager to hear from you and help you succeed in your academic goals!

I have always been fascinated with mathematics and all of it's related branches. As a chemical engineer major with over four years of tutoring, I have both the expertise and experience to teach anyone mathematics in a fun and interactive learning environment. I can explain complex concepts using easy-to-understand terms and relevant examples. My goal is to connect students with foundational knowledge and problem solving methods so that they can tackle any math problem by themselves. I believe that having a strong core in mathematics will not only increase a student's grades but will also boost their confidence, motivation, and interest in the subject as well.

I am an MIT tutor specializing in math and science. I have taken Introductory Physics at MIT, and I have received near-perfect score on the MCAT Physical Sciences, which heavily tests on the test-takers' ability to solve problems given passages.
Having worked with many students, I understand that students have different demands from school and their schedule. As a result, I first meet with the students to determine and adapt my lessons accordingly. I also talk with the teachers as needed.
I also always carry around AP Physics prep books, SAT Physics prep books, and/or college physics problems (depending on the students' levels) so that the students can work on the practice problems during the lessons. I also provide them with additional resources (especially the list of concepts from the AP Physics labs) and practice problems as needed.
About Nayoon
I'm passionate about learning and student development. I read about learning hacks when I'm tired, and, in my ideal vacation, I would learn about all things that are on my bucket list (yes, I'm serious). I'm also near-obsessed about students' experiences and
“I would not have passed my test in such a short time without her. I hired her a week before my test. She was very professional and very smart, and she used different technique to help me remember.”
- Fabiola L.
“Calc is going great. I got all A’s on my first three tests. Thank you for all your help!”
- Mark G.
“My daughter is so happy about her A in math. Thank you for everything you are teaching her!”
- S., Newton, MA
I believe in in-depth learning. In-depth learning helps my student build the foundation necessary to succeed in their future courses. To facilitate this type of learning, many of my lessons feature derivation of formulas. For the lessons that do not involve formulas, I present a few simple concepts from which we can derive and solve many other problems. My lessons also feature numerous questions to enhance student engagement and to improve student confidence of having them solve the problem on their own as much as possible. I then drill my students with practice problems and get them to explain until I'm fully convinced that my students truly understood the material.
Though I specialize in gifted students, I also have worked with students from all kinds of background. Most of my students are either high school or college students, but I also worked with younger students. I also helped some students implement organizational tips and develop study skills necessary to succeed in their future classes. My students are from all over the world--China, France, Korea, Puerto Rico, Taiwan, Vietnam, and United States. To this day, my closest friends are still the international students. English is my second language as well, and I certainly empathize with students who struggle with the English language.
Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if you think we may be good fit!

All questions answered, teach methods of problem-solving, math help, real-world examples used, everything focused on your exact needs.
About Scott
My degree in Math has been a major help, but a life-long interest in all aspects of Astronomy was what pushed me to reach a high degree of expertise in Physics -- as Astronomy is almost all Physics! And using examples from Astronomy is a big help in explaining many Physics concepts.

I studied math at MIT, where I focused on mathematical physics -- the mathematical theories underlying classical and quantum mechanics and general relativity. I've taught mechanics, waves, and electromagnetism (using multivariable calculus) to high school and college students in the Boston area for ten years.
About Matt
I studied math, literature, and philosophy at MIT and Harvard, and I have a decade of professional teaching, tutoring, and mentoring experience in the Boston metro area -- and around the world by Skype. I've always been interested in both the sciences and the humanities, and I love sharing my passion for ideas. On the science side, I've worked in labs at NASA, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, the McGovern Insitute for Brain Research, and MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory. And on the humanities side, I was an editor at a political and literary magazine for four years; I've also edited three books published by MIT
My philosophy is simple: I teach the way I would want to be taught. No matter the subject, my goal is to help students achieve deep mastery and long-lasting understanding, not just better grades and test scores. I emphasize critical and creative thinking, never rote memorization or mechanical rule-following. I focus on big-picture ideas and precise reasoning -- not just the what or the how but the why.
My profile here at TakeLessons is new, but I have more than 60 student testimonials. I'm happy to put prospective clients in touch with former students.

Matt is a rare gem in the tutoring world. He has an amazing style of teaching. He really goes in depth. My 11th grader son has a lot of respect for him. According to my son, "Matt is a genius". His logic and teaching style makes him stand out. Matt is not only great in mathematics, he is absolutely fantastic in english, reading, and writing. He loves to breakdown complex problems for his students to understand and also expects his students to ask him questions. Matt has helped my son in calculus, reading, and writing and my son has benefitted and enjoyed the lessons to the fullest. One thing that impressed me the most was that he does not need the answer keys to verify correct answers. He trusts his own reasoning in his explanations. But, there is one problem: once you hire him as a tutor, its hard to find another of equal caliber. Thanks to Matt, our son got into Cornell.

a pre-calculus course in my sophomore year and take AP Calculus BC instead, my mother thought of finding
some help for me. After struggling for months to find a good tutor, she found Matt online, and his
biography looked impressive. In our first meet, Matt’s questions were very engaging and thought-provoking
and I realized, “This guy is a genius.”
Matt has helped me with math, reading, writing, and my college applications. He has also mentioned,
“Although I am not a physicist, I can read and explain AP Physics C if needed.” Matt is a master in logic and
his confidence is unmistakable. Matt’s lessons were always profound and enjoyable, which made me
confident with high school subjects like probability and statistics, calculus; as well as college-level courses
such as multivariate calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations. Thanks to his help, I was both
accepted to Cornell University's College of Engineering and wait-listed to Harvard University!
Matt has been helping me in all aspects of academic decisions and progresses. Matt isn’t just a tutor: he is a
mentor, counselor, and guide. My mother says that Matt is smart and a great teacher in developing talent in
students.

I've been tutoring students in Physics at both a high school and college level for 4 years now. I have helped many college students jump from Cs to As in their introductory physics courses over the years. Although my major is in Molecular Cell Biology, the majority of my courses are Physics & Chemistry based. I am also certified to teach high school chemistry through the TExES teacher qualification exam. My philosophy is teaching you how to approach each problem rather than simply giving you a straight answer. My goal is to help you see the patterns between different questions and help you develop a solid strategy for each type of question you approach.
About Nicholas
I graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley in 20
I have over 1000 hours of tutoring and teaching experience, and am comfortable with Math, Physics, Chemistry, Writing, English, French, ACT, and SAT. My only policy is that you do not simply ask me for the answer, but rather help me help you through questions. A big part of your college career is that you find yourself not being able to ask the right questions to guide you to the answer, and I want to be here to help you learn that skill. I will help walk you through all the steps of the problem and clarify the theory along the way so that you can gain mastery of the material. However, if you are simply asking for someone who will give you a quick answer without a thorough explanation, please seek another tutor.
I can tutor ACT Math, ACT English, ACT Reading, ACT Writing, ACT Science, SAT Math, SAT Writing, Algebra 2, Algebra 1, Biostatistics, Statistics, AP Statistics, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Calculus BC/AB, Introduction to College Calculus, Probability, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry, Introduction to College Physics, and Introduction to College Chemistry. I also have extensive experience with college admissions guidance and organization & study skills.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you master the topics you are studying!
