I graduated from the University of South Florida where I received my BA in Theatre performance & Communication with a minor in Dance. In 2011 I finished studying Music Recording at St. Petersburg College, where I focused on Singing/Songwriting. I trained at NYU with the Aquila acting company in classical theatre, and I also trained with TVI Acting studios in Los Angeles in Film and television.

My Music and Performance experience started when I was 6 singing in choir, school productions, and taking piano lessons. I continued on with group ensembles, musical theatre shows and later on touring with the Spanish Lyric Theatre in Both English and Spanish in throughout Florida after college.

I have been teaching one on one and group lessons for 15 years in various subjects, Including Music, Dance, Theatre, Academic Tutoring (Eleme
ntary/Middle School subjects: English, Writing, Reading, Math, Social Studies, Reading, Writing, Learning Skills, Civics, French, and test preparations), and Culinary Lessons.

Online lessons are any interval, great for cooking and tutoring! and all subjects.

I like the combination of relaxed and goal oriented. I like to get to know my students and learn about about expectations and goals they have for themselves. Then I set up a plan that will help them achieve their goals and get them closer to what they want from their lessons. I take into consideration their interest, style, and help them to find their unique learning style.

I do have some guidelines for parents and students. If the student is a minor, I ask that the parent be in the house for the lesson. I also ask that the lesson be performed in the Living room or Music Space.

Hi, my name is Blake. I teach guitar, piano, and singing online and at my Lowell, Indiana studio.

I have been a professional musician - session musician and teacher for 26 years. I was formally trained at the American Conservatory of Music and the Chicago Musical College, both located in Chicago. I won the Presidential Scholarship in Classical Guitar Performance at the American Conservatory of Music and another full-ride scholarship in Classical Guitar Performance to attend the Chicago Musical College.

My primary Classical Guitar Instructor at both institutions was Paul Henry. I also studied Rock Guitar with Dave Uhrich while attending both institutions and privately studied Jazz Guitar with Scott Reed. I studied voice with Audrey Evans at the American Conservatory of Music and Robert Long at the Chicago Musical College.

*** Lesson Details ***

I design lessons individually according to the needs and "wants" of each student. I specialize in developing and correcting technique to improve the student's overall skill. Students that dedicate the time and effort each week to practicing see rapid and sustained results.

However, if you have a busy life and merely want to learn guitar for personal enjoyment, I will design your lessons to develop your skill at a pace that works for you, which can fluctuate according to your schedule.

***Young & Special Needs Students***

I currently teach children as young as 13 years old and adults of any age. When teaching younger children and individuals with special needs, it is significantly beneficial for parents to attend each lesson - I have parent seating available. When parents attend lessons, the parent can assist the younger student while practicing during the week at home.

In my experience, the overall musical development and progress of younger students improve considerably when parents are involved.

***Thoughts on Musical Talent***

Musical talent is a wonderful gift, but correct technique is not easily acquired without proper instruction. Your skill level eventually plateaus and your ability to learn and perform more complicated music is inhibited unless you have a solid foundation in music theory as it applies to your instrument(s) as well as proper technique.

I can help you build this solid foundation and will guide you through the development of musical skills; correcting flaws in technique is my specialty.

I do not see teaching as simply repeating what has been already detailed in text books and lectures. Everyone’s mind is different and thus everyone has a unique perception to understanding one issue or another. Things are better illustrated with an example.

A while back, there was a television show hosted by a T.V. personality named Monty Hall. In the show, Monty presented a contestant with 3 closed doors. Behind one door was a new car. And behind each of the other two doors was a goat. The contestant had the option to choose one door so as to win the new car.

The probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 or door 3 was the same, about 33.33%. Let us say that the contestant picked door 1. Monty would then open one of the other two doors that were not chosen by the contestant. There were 3 terms in the game: 1) Monty knew what w
as behind each door; 2) Monty cannot open the door that was already chosen by the contestant; 3) Monty would only open a door that hides a goat.

Let us say Monty opened door 3 revealing a goat. Monty then asked the contestant if the contestant would like to switch to door 2 or keep his original choice of door 1. Contestants would be bewildered not knowing really what to do. Was it better to keep the originally choice or was it better to switch or it would make no difference whether to keep the original choice or switch?

Meet Marilyn vos Savant. Marilyn wrote a column called “Ask Marilyn” in a newspaper called Parade. Marilyn was known for having one of the highest recorded IQ. A reader sent Marilyn a letter asking her if it was better to switch or not to switch. Marilyn stated in her column that a contestant should switch since switching doubled the contestant’s chances of winning. Many of Marilyn’s readers erupted in protest including readers with Ph.D., mathematicians, and academicians. Most people believed that the probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 was the same of 50%.

This became known as The Monty Hall Problem or The Monty Hall Paradox. Articles and books were written over this problem. Actually Marilyn was right and this was proven using computer simulation. Yet until today many people cannot understand that switching doubles the chances of winning.

At first glance this paradox might seem irrelevant to teaching. But I think it does. This paradox tutor the mind in the subject of structured thinking which is very important in learning.
